HBO Series: Watchmen (2019) (drops 10/20/19) Thread

I was hype af to see that Hooded Justice was really a black man and then boom......smh

I'm not surprised. It was no way they'd have a blk superhero kicking the asses of white supremacists on television and he have a normal heterosexual relationship with a blk woman. It was either going to be a secret interracial love affair with a white woman or he'd be gay.

Hollyweird not going to give us anything to be proud of. There's always a catch to this shit. Every single time

Wasn't it hinted in the graphic novel that Hooded Justice was gay? Can't praise the show for being faithful to the book and then criticize the show for being faithful to the book.

They change shit all the time in hollyweird. Never stopped them from doing it b4.

The gay shit didn't even make sense in the context of the storyline. White guy shows up to hooded justices' apartment in Harlem and next scene they fucking?! It was hella outta place.

It truly was. Never fails, always pressure on a major network to meet the twinkle toes quota with the random fairy dust sprinkled on the story.

We can look at this episode as a metaphor of how the LGBTts movement is riding on the coat trails of the black struggle and how they really dgaf black people. When hooded justice needed the minutute mens help that fag cac captain metropolis left him hanging.

Another good episode. Gave us insight into how old dude killed the cop. Which I wanted to know...

I agree, the sex scene wasn't neccessary but if u follow the comic u kind of understand. So it didn't surprise me like that.

Still waiting on how they going to introduce Dr. Manhattan and how he ties in..

As messed up as it is hooded justice isn't the main character sister night is. I'll still watch be ausw I want to see where the show goes.it reminds me of fear the walking dead when they made strand gay. At least the mystery is over. We still need to know what happened to looking glass and what will become of vieght.

has this been renewed yet?

Landeloff hasnt committed to doing a second season or continuing
in his mind this is the story and he doesnt have another ready

but with the critical acclaim i dont think it will be one and done
i can see it taking a true detective/anthology series approach going forward

different stories, characters & times set in the Watchmen universe but not neccessarily a new season every year

Why are Rorshach's followers racist?
I dont remember him being racist

he wasnt capital R racist
but he was conservative/right-wing, a consipary theroist, hated homosexuals, angry and mysonganistic

if he were around today he would look alot like the ppl marching in charlostville or Alex Jones
shit i think he was also a Nixon fan & was the only one cool with the Comedian (who was a racist, rapist, nixon hachet man etc)

Idk, still a liberty taken basically making him the inspiration of the nu klan.
And thats ok,just saying they couldve done without the gay scene. It felt really out of place.
Ive shouldve known once i saw dude from american horror story that there would be dudes banging

I don't think you understood or remember the comic very well then. By today's standards and labels, Rorschach would be a pretty hard right leaning fanatic. Makes all the sense in the world that the proud boys and the klan would make him their icon.

And taking liberties implies that this show is a retelling of the original story for them to be able to take departures (liberties) from. It's not, it's a new story about the world 30 years later.

I could have done without the fruit scene too but honestly I think too big a deal is being made about it. And actually, leaving out hooded justice being a fruit would have been taking a liberty from the original story, and an odd omission.

Gotta disagree with your original premise that all these liberties area being taken though.

Amazing episode. Best one so far. And yes he was written as gay so the only way around that was having someone pretend to be him and fuck Captain Metropolis. I love how they keep showing how white folks are just backstabbing hypocrites no matter their line of work or social class.

Well written show ....episode 7 was impressive.

enjoyed the way they flipped aspects of Batman and Superman origin stories for Hooded Justice

...also how they showed CACs whitewashing everything and never showing true
compassion or commaderie with black people

Such a deep layered episode

:angry:Can they make anything without throwing in gay sex. wtf!!!!
No, because then the gays will get on Twitter and start crying about how they are not represented in this show. They actually killed two birds with one stone, satisfied the gays and the interracial lovers. You know media has to cater to everyone now days. Plus, they were gay in the comics too.

Can’t wait for the new Superman movie to show hes gay

I'm seeing articles about how "woke" this show is racially, so of course I log onto BGOL and see people bitching about one gay black character or couple. #fixated
why bother posting ignorantly?
lets talk in critical terms after you watch the episode

that should have been written better... the way it was presented was jarring

She didn't do a good job of being a wife either.
She encouraged it
Then when she didn't like it she left.

the writers used the gay sex scene to present a full picture of exploitation of Reeves without actually finishing the sketch or adding any color

The wife soured on Hooded Justice after she saw Metropolis flirting at the kitchen table
her anger/ bitterness and the real reason for leaving had more to do with her husband's gay "mistress"
than his anger issues

 - only real interest was for exploitation and later monetization - "stay completely covered up, Will"

for me - that squad car dragging the bodies was akin to Dorothy first stepping into Oz

I can't wait to watch this episode again....

Exactly.

Show that she knew

Not that he rightfully didn't want his kid to be pretending to be hooded Justice

If he was gay in the comic then fine. It was just kind of odd how they just switch to a scene with him fucking the dude with no rhyme or reason. For a show that taking it time to show character development that was an weird way of introducing that. Not that necessarily some long drawn story for his sexuality, but again it was out of nowhere with no clues.
Somebody needs to explain Hooded Justice and the other gay character(forgot his name)with basically the same costume. What’s that about?

There was a clue, he made a statement right before he left their apt.
