“Ashley stated she wanted to play slave and slaver because she is African American and he is Caucasian,” according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s office report. “Kenneth did not wish to partake and became verbally aggressive.”
As tensions escalated, Atkins “spat in Ashley’s face,” police reported.
Atkins denied getting physical with Edwards, but was arrested for simple battery shortly before 11 p.m. and brought to the Manatee County Central Jail. Edwards, whom police say was not injured, refused to complete an affidavit and asked cops not to book Atkins.
The Smoking Gun reports that Atkins has a “lengthy rap sheet,” which includes a grand theft charge from May that is still pending.
