Kevin Smith surprised audiences at Sunday’s annual Power-Con convention by announcing a new anime “He-Man” series for Netflix.

The new series, titled “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” will take place in the Mattel toy inspired world and will focus on some of the unresolved storylines of the classic ‘80s show. Smith will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” Smith said. “In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

Mattel Television is producing alongside executive producer Rob David, the vice president of Mattel TV and author of “He-Man: the Eternity War.” Writers include Eric Carrasco (“Supergirl”), Tim Sheridan (“Reign of the Supermen”), Diya Mishra (“Magic the Gathering”) and Marc Bernardin (“Alphas”). “Castlevania’s” Powerhouse Animation will oversee animation for the series.

“’Masters of the Universe’ has been a cultural phenomenon for generations, inspiring fans to discover their own power within,” David said. “Fans of this franchise have been waiting for the continuation of these characters, and Kevin Smith, as a ‘Masters’ superfan himself, is the perfect champion and partner to expand the canon through a dynamic animated series on Netflix.”

REal talk?

Fatman on Batman / Fatman Beyond...

Marc Bernerdin?

Was the BEST THING to happen to that guy?

why?

cause of ALL his podcasts?

That right now is the biggest...

largest audience consistent buzz

and they BOTH been getting STEADY F*CKING WORK off that podcast / livecast!!!

And it was because he added that brother to the show that transformed it to the Utility Belt early on and then what it is NOW...

Salute to them BOTH.

I feel like Kevin NEEDED that kick in ass and realize he nice with his, he got his OWN distinctive voice and when FOCUSED?

Homeboy does good work.

I feel like Marc is one of the people that brought that out of him in PUBLIC.

@fonzerrillii

I KNEW this was coming cuz!

They BOTH been CRAZY secretive the last few episodes...

And I was like why in the hell are they going to a HE Man convention???

Sadly Marc can't contribute cause he don;t know NOTHING about He Man at all.

also a PRIME example of PERSEVERANCE...

Kevin has been REJECTED MULTIPLE times by Netflix...

MULTIPLE

But his friends freaking worked there and he NEVER wanted to call in a favor but every time he went they were like

What you doing here???

and I think that also helped.

I predict Kevin Smith gonna get the Buckaroo Banzai call

and real talk?

a REAL shot at at least DIRECTING an episode of Daredevil on FX.

Your signature everyday outfit of red boots, matching underpants, and a battle ax is about to become way more popular, if Kevin Smith has anything to say about it. According to Variety, the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot director announced on Sunday his plans for a He-Man anime series on Netflix at Power-Con in Anaheim, California.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation will reportedly revisit He-Man and your other favorite Eternia residents from the popular Mattel toy franchise that inspired the original action cartoon and 1987 film. The series will apparently “focus on some of the unresolved storylines of the classic ’80s show,” though it probably won’t tackle the critical question to be addressed by the live-action He-Man movie: How in god’s name is Noah Centineo going to pull off that bob?

I’m just Happy for the jay and silent bob sequel... Cause I need more Kevin Smith universe shit.. he can’t direct a god movie outside of his universe but he has that shit down pat ... also the man can direct a tv episode.

Damn. I've never heard or seen this shit in my life. I gotta check it out.

That shit was fucking fantastic...

Cartoon Network pulled some bullshit by canceling this and the Thundercats reboot ...

That thundercats reboot was one of the best series reboots that I’ve ever seen... it was fucking perfect and that cancelled it. The way that shit was set up it could have lasted 100 episodes easily... every character had a backstory.. man just talking about it now makes me angry to this day.

They fucked us with Thundercats too. Left it off with that Pumyra betrayal and cut the lights off on us.

I should have scrolled down but I should have known that I another Kat would bring up Thunderkats.. I’m still pissed off about that shit. That shit was a classic... on the real I like it way better the OG series and I thought the OG was good.. but the reboot just added so many layers to shit and the music and fight scenes were lit...

man I’ll never forget that shit.... just like the Magnificent Star troopers series.. that left us too soon

I have that argument all the time..

but I think his work on the CW, Reaper, Red State, Chasing Amy?

He got a GREAT comic book movie in him...

I swear it.

He just needs a good support crew around him.

Like Feige and them

:crying:

do NOT get me started cuz

don't you do it!!!!!

Side note this reminds me of another show that was fucking perfect that kind of died too soon..mainly cause it’s the only show where the season finale was set up like a series finale...

Go Joe Renegades... one of my favorite versions of Gi joe

Also produced by Jeff Kline... for those that don’t know ... If Jeff Kline’s name is attached to a show.. You fucking watch it. Almost all of his cartoons turned into classics and he was one of the first cartoon producers that heavily relied on serialized story telling.

bruh, had no idea there were comics. and completely missed the more recent masters cartoon. I'm going to have to do some research

This why you my brother from another...

I thought i was ONLY one who ever watched...

I saw it completely by accident

And it blew it away it was clever as hell and ended perfectly and the way it tied in the comics and cartoon?

THAT should be the source the new movies uses...

I am really wondering if this is going to tie into She-Ra on Netflix given the current season's story line.
