BGOL Fathers: Brian McKnight’s story, how would you have done it differently ???

The best thing my father did was made me work for nearly everything damn thing I owned as a child. From a very young age he made it a point to teach me the value of earning what I had. As a kid I hated the fact that even though my parents were rich by Jamaican standards I still had to do chores around the house each day to get anything, from a bicycle, pocket money, toys. etc; however when I got much older I began to appreciate what they had taught me, as a strong work ethic stuck with me and made me appreciate what I earned througout life.

Maybe there is a such a thing as giving your children too much, if that's the case maybe that's where Brian McKnight went wrong... You can spoilt your kids to the point where they have no work ethic and as a result constantly expect you to always provide for them even in their adult lives.

It's better to be a hard but fair parent and teach them the value of earning from a young age rather than spoiling your kids with everthing and as a result turn them into ungrateful little bitches.

I dont know man, when all of your kids don't want to fuck with you something isn't right. I remember years ago of hearing that Bryan abused their mother

Wow. This dude is suffering the consequences of raising spoiled fuckin brats. Damn. He GAVE them an apt for 2 years?????

3 new cars before 22.

He just gave em too much. Mufuckas think they owed. That daughter shit is fucked up. Thas what happens when u nut in a crazy bitch.

Sounds like his current wife is really trying to help by gettin them niggas jobs and shit but they rather smoke.

Fuck em.

He gave them the best life possible growing up, but in doing so ended spoiling them rotten. They probably never had to work for anything in life and expect to just live some hollywood instagram lifestyle. Never taught them the value of earning a dollar.

Reminds of of Bill Gates' kids. He said he was giving them 10mil each, and the rest to charity, and his daughter screamed about how "unfair" that was.

Looks like dude threw shade at his blood sons by bigging up his step son. He basically called them bums without saying it.

That Brother went above and beyond with his children. Family can be the worse. Sometimes, no matter what you do, it'll never be enough. 30 and 27 year old men should not be acting like bitches. Go out there and get your own hustle on. You have a last name that will ring in certain circles, take advantage of that versus shitting on your Dad.

I'm Jamaican & my parents raised me the same way lol. The way they raised me wasn't perfect but I understand why the did it that way. Now that I'm grown man I'm grateful as hell.

Not necessarily bro. Entitlement is a motherfucker. Kids deserve to have their needs taking care of until 18. As many of the kid's wants the parent choose to provide is extra

That's the point right there, the wants.

This sounds like an honest video. If I give you $10,000 a year every year for three years you are going to expect that. you haven't done anything to earn it other than be related to me, but you expect it

If after the third year I say I'm going to do this for 2 more years, but you need to get up, get out, and get something to quote the outkast song, and after two years of you doing nothing to prepare yourself, I finally cut payment... I am not wrong. You may be mad at me, but your ire, distain, or anger is not justified.

Through no fault of his own, Brian McKnight's kids grew up with material possessions that most of us did not have. We didn't grow up in the best schools, we didn't have multiple new cars before the age of 22.

Their needs were met, and so we're many of their wants, but after 18, to a parent their kids "wants" are optional. And, if it carries on past the age of 18, which it did, then all that time for that child was a bonus

He gave them that. The problem is their belief that those gifts are supposed to keep coming past the age of 18 or 22 or in this case 25 and 27.

Let me give an example, I grew up watching the show Friends. Rachel's father, Jennifer Aniston's character, cut Her off financially the same way Brian McKnight did his two sons.

There is nothing wrong with what he did. He said his wife tried to get his son's jobs at the hospital making $18 an hour, not bad for someone without any skills and all they had to do is stop smoking weed which they refused to do.

I don't blame Brian McKnight at all for setting the record straight

Yeah, it took a while to appreciate it all but once I got into my adult life and started working all the valauble lessons of past sunk in.

........there it is

And if you are a celebrity worth more than 10 million...and teaching your kids about "work" then you already failed as a parent.

If I had that kind of loot, I would teach my child about business ownership, investments and passive incomes.

This reminds me of how the Obama's had their daughter working at a fast food job to teach her about the importance of "earning her own".....

We shouldnt be starting at the bottom every generation.

True we shouldn't be starting at the bottom every generation but at the same time it's also important that you teach your children the importance of earning if they have no appreciation of what you give them.

Not all children appreciate what is given to them and how to manage it. To not teach them the value of what they have is ignoring the basic lesson.

I suppose it all depends on how capable and conscious a child is as to where you start the lessons at.

I work in an upper middle class career and the mass majority of the sons of my coworkers ain't shit. Spoiling your kids is one of the easiest ways to fuck them up for life. My son is 6 and im seeing signs of being spoiled (he lives with his mother half the time). I'm starting an allowance system this week.

Black People can't do what white people do especially when it comes to raising our children in AmeriKKKa. He seems to have missed making sure that they understand the Social and Racial landscape and political climate that exists. What he never mentions is he tried to raise them as good Christian Men, something that will never work. They're Men and nows the time sink or swim to Man the Fuck up because as Black Men in AmeriKKKa if you don't have a Plan and a Code this place has those for you already in place and being carried out daily whether you're a willing participant or not!

My only question would be how involved was he with the kids outside of providing financially? His new family is all over his social media with very little of his own seed. Just the pictures of time being spent together ya know?

I think it's bullshit for the kids to publically decide to assisinate their pops name and I totally get the frustration of feeling that you are taking care of grown ass kids who's work ethic sucks. Ya gotta know though that parenting is more than not missing child support payments and buying/paying for stuff. I don't know if both he and his kids really tried to work on their Dad/my seed relationship even as they were grown adults...and not dad, buy my stuff or I'm going to throw a fit, or Brian thinking that buying stuff would make kids emotionally happy. If...if that stuff about not contacting your kid(s) for simple but important things like birthdays is true, then Brian has a problem,

My kids tell me I’m worth more to them dead than alive; I’m at the attorney the next day updating my will and insurance to everyone but them.

I have no problem with him airing out his sons as it seems it’s tit for tat but yeah; the stuff about his daughter could have been left out though now his family has to want the cousin outed.

He just gave em too much.

Unless there is a plan, giving a person a handout like that rarely ends well.

His 27 year old son broke into his house and X’d out his wedding photos and glued his mamas pics on them is some childish ass shit. The only thing Brian should pay for is therapy to work those old emotional issues out.

Lastly, the daughter situation is a bit problematic. If my daughter was rumored to be sleeping with an older cousin, there is nothing you could do to stop me from getting to the bottom of that rumor.....fuck her mama!

I understand my brother's which are all older than me and have many children by many different women and there's two that are level headed and respectful, the rest are what they've always been,no good, selfish, sneaky, spiteful, angry, ugly and bitter bitches and they have raised kids to be the exact same way and my brother's take the 75% of the blame because they chose em as mother's.But the kids who mind you are all adults now and still have issue's and problems that they like to blame on everyone else.

The straw that broke the Camels back was our father passed and those son & daughters of bitches started calling around asking for money or anything that was left to them before we had even put him away,at the damn service.....Mind you what was left, went to us and only us,cars, clothes, money, even a barrel of pennies and not one of them received a dime and my response"Put that on social media...broke motherfuckers"

idk how it's shade if its the truth. that's not blood. but his wife's son doing his part to try and save up his work money from mikey d's and brian didn't tell him to get a gig, shit i'll be feeling good as a step pops. most step son are still hating the fact you fucking their moms.
