Kawhi Leonard isn’t simply thinking about joining LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. After winning the 2019 Finals MVP and while the entire NBA waits on his decision, Leonard has made his desires known to the Lakers and their former president Magic Johnson.
Brad Turner of the L.A. Times gathered more interesting details about the Lakers pursuit of Leonard, including what accommodations he is seeking to make a commitment to the purple and gold. Specifically, Leonard is hoping to have a say in hiring medical and training personnel that cater specifically to his needs, much like LeBron has.

“LeBron James was able to bring on his own trainer, his own medical people. (Kawhi) wants to know if he can do that as well. LeBron James brought on some people that weren’t with the Lakers, and he wants to know ‘can I bring with a couple of my guys?’ … And as far as I know, the Lakers would be willing to do that, because you do those things for superstar players.”
LeBron’s longtime workout guru and athletic trainer Mike Mancias has followed him from his first stint with the Cavs to all of his NBA teams, most recently the Lakers. While it’s not clear that Leonard has a personal trainer with whom he is as close as LeBron is with Mancias, he wants the ability to pick one. LeBron’s personal friend and business partner Randy Mims is also an employee of the Lakers. And Kawhi evidently wants the LeBron treatment on the team side of things.
While we don’t necessarily know who Leonard’s people are, the Lakers are trying to give him every possible assurance that the choice can be up to him. However, it remains to be seen whether Leonard believes that is a better choice than staying in Toronto with a franchise that managed his load brilliantly during the regular season en route to a title.

Did I lie? Who the fuck is left? Who is the point guard and center? Caruso and Javelle? Who's the bench? Melo? JR? Korver? D league scrubs? If they don't get Kawhi you will be putting extra stress on a 17th season Bron and AD who is young but has never played a full season. With no bench, they can't really rest. Bron is not going to sit 20 games as he should so he will be playing heavy minutes. You need bodies and vets that can anchor the 2nd unit to give him and AD a fucking breather bro.
