Ezra Miller's Flash Contract Is Up: Is He Still The DCEU Barry Allen?

The Flash solo movie has been delayed numerous times, which has cast doubts upon whether or not Ezra Miller will still star in the DCEU film. Miller was first cast as Barry Allen way back in 2014, but five years later The Flash still hasn't entered production, after a very troubled development period.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller wrote the initial story treatment, with Seth Grahame-Smith signing on to write and direct the movie in 2015 when they passed because of their busy schedule. Fast-forward to 2016, however, and Grahame-Smith departed the project due to creative differences. Rick Famuyiwa replaced him, with an eye on filming in early-2017, but he also dropped out just a few months later. Over a year of various reports and rumors followed - names linked ranged from Robert Zemeckis to Matthew Vaughn and back to Lord & Miller again - before, in early-2018, it was announced that Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Game Night) had been brought in to direct. The latest official word is that The Flash will film after Fantastic Beasts 3, which releases in November 2021, meaning the film is still a long way off happening.

RELATED: How & Why The DCEU's Original Slate Changed So Much

Through all of this turmoil, Ezra Miller has remained the one constant on the project. The actor has already played Barry Allen three times, with cameos in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad leading to a full appearance in Justice League. Miller's take on the character has proved popular, if not exactly irreplaceable. Miller seemingly remains committed to making it happen too. The Fantastic Beasts star reiterated earlier this year that it would still happen, and was even reported to be rewriting The Flash scripttoo in order to keep the role. They aren't the actions of someone who wants out, but an actor who remains serious about making the film happen.

It's not as easy as the actor wanting it to happen though. The version of the script he was writing - alongside acclaimed comic book writer Grant Morrison - was said to be a darker take to the more lighthearted one planned by Goldstein & Daley. Since Warner Bros. have been moving the DCEU from the former towards the latter post-Zack Snyder, Miller's efforts might not be enough to keep the gig. Miller is a microcosm of that too, since it was Snyder who hired the actor to play The Flash.

There's also the fact that his contract reportedly expired in May (per the same story on the script rewrite), meaning that it'd need to be renegotiated. That's not impossible, but Miller is a much bigger name now than when he first signed on, which would place extra demands on an already prolonged development and a movie that, after so much time, could be considered a risk. If Miller and WB can't agree on either a creative direction or a contract, then it's hard to see how the actor will continue playing The Flash.

Working in Miller's favor, however, is the aforementioned Fantastic Beastsfranchise. While he was a part of the first film, sequel The Crimes of Grindelwald ended with a huge twist that made Miller's Credence Barebonethe absolute centerpiece of at least the next film, if not the entire saga. WB is still betting big on the Harry Potter spin-off saga, and that means they're going to need to keep Miller happy. If he wants to make The Flash in return, then there's a good chance the higher-ups will do everything possible to make it work. For now, though, The Flash solo movie remains at a stand-still.

it's a wrap for the jl flicks and characters outside of Aquaman and wonder Woman

Shazam will get a part 2 along with Black Adam. The Rock might bring some life to DC, the potential is there to introduce the Legion of Doom. You got Manta, Black Adam and Cheetah. Lex is still out there. Imagine if they somehow connected this new Joker movie.....ahhh who the hell am I kidding. It's over.

But seriously, Idris, Rock, Mamoa, Viola, Gal, Margot (Birds of Prey)- that's a pretty good cast. And Joaquin if they do connect it.

I gave up on Flash and Arrow. I have no clue what these past seasons were about.
Flash jostled the time line so many times and had so many Dr, Wells, I got lost around season 3 and punched out. Now when I watch it I don’t know what’s going on. Everyone has powers. Story’s are jumbled. Future daughter is fight with Dad then against him.

I gave up on Arrow years ago. Watching those same old tired fight scenes week after week and with characters I didn't give a damn about.

You had me feeling a little hopeful for a split sec

I FINALLY saw shazam.

It was fine for the target audience

A little too much completely unnecessary cursing

but it was fine

My major gripe Marc Bernardin pointed out.

Shazam and the kid were 2 completely different person...

Which ruined any freaky friday BIG potential.

They should do a sequel

tone down the language

up the magic and budget.

And try to make shazam an actual big kid but the same kid in a hero body

Sidebar...

Disney would have made Shazam a near classic.

:lol2:
Shazam!

Domestic Total as of Jun. 24, 2019: $139,974,535
yeah, it failed, but who expected it to succeed, besides the people involved. If they do it right, part 2 could be better. They just need to incorporate Rock /Black Adam sooner than later.

wb must do a Black Adam movie before they can do a Shazam movie with the Rock

To all the doubters.
The Rock says this:

:yes::yes::yes:

So, as you can see, Mr. Johnson (a producer of Shazam) is VERY MUCH looking forward to appearing in the Shazam sequel an kicking some ass...

Warner Bros.’ long-in-development Flash feature may have finally found a director.

EW has confirmed that It and It: Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti is in talks to direct Ezra Miller‘s version of the Scarlet Speedster on the big screen. An official offer has not been made yet, but if it goes through, his sister Barbara Muschietti will join as a producer, too. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break the news.

At this point, the Flash movie has gone through multiple directors since it was announced back in 2014. In 2015, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter writer Seth Grahame-Smith signed on to helm but left in 2016 and was replaced by Dope’s Rick Famuyiwa, who eventually stepped down too. Then in January 2018, Spider-Man: Homecoming scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein jumped onboard to direct and pen a script; however, they recently and voluntarily decided to exit over creative differences, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie is also getting a new script, too. In March, Miller, who reportedly wanted a darker take on the speedster than what Daley and Goldstein had planned, joined forces with legendary comic book writer Grant Morrison to write a new script. According to THR, Warner Bros. turned down Miller and Morrison’s script in May and is currently considering Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson to take a stab at it.

In addition to the It films, Andy Muschietti also directed 2013’s Mama, starring Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. He reunited with Chastain on It: Chapter Two, which opens Sept. 6.

The Flash gets a release date as Warner Bros. reveals updated schedule

It looks like The Flash is actually happening.
That’s one of the headlines in Warner Bros’. new release schedule, which includes a bunch of titles coming over the next few years.
The Flash movie has been in development for a while: It was first announced in 2014 and seemingly derailed after Justice League disappointed. But actor Ezra Miller (who was considered one of the bright spots in League) has remained confident a standalone film would eventually happen. WB has now slotted The Flash for July 1, 2022.

WARNER BROS. PICTURES/DC COMICS

There’s also a date for The Matrix 4 (May 21, 2021) and a move for the Mortal Kombat movie (to Jan. 15, 2021, from from March 5, 2021).

Also, proving how such schedules are made to be changed, the studio’s adaptation of Akira has been bumped off the schedule entirely — so that’s back in limbo.

Here’s the full WB list for all our speculation:

THE UNTITLED FRED HAMPTON PROJECT will be released 08/21/20

Theyll probably just be copying any"event" episode of the CW show..
