NBA playoffs ratings plunge 48%

Two things:

1.) No Lebron
2.) People are tired of the Warriors dominating.

I dont think people are tired of the Warriors dominating. They're tired of the Warriors series being non competitive. When they lost to LeBron and the Cavs in 2016 they were so embarrassed and upset they decided to "out talent" the league so they wouldnt have to be in competitive series like that ever again. Even their fans say they lost that series because guys got suspended or hurt so they couldnt "out talent" them anymore.

When they play Houston ratings go up a bit cuz its somewhat competitive. Watching them beat up these other teams with 1 all star or 2 is like watching my lil cuz play Madden on Easy level or watching the NBA all star game. Pretty boring.

everybody knew this would happen when lebron left cleveland. there's nothing to look forward to in the finals cause mostly everybody think the warriors are gonna win....even tho i feel the bucks can give em a run. no lebron vs warriors narrative anymore.... you gotta have somebody to hate and love.

The NBA is not fun to watch. I get sick of Curry and them dam 3 pointers. To me that ain't fucking basketball. I miss the days of niggas driving to the basket for a 2 and 1.

NBA is about superstars. Period. The superstars have to be more than on the court stars. Have to be like Mike, Kobe, Bron, AI, Shaq. Marker size don't matter in this day and age. Bucks series would be through the roof if Bron was there. Zion is going to make New Orleans must-watch.

too many teams....too many stars trying to team up...big market teams like the Knicks, Lakers, Bulls, and Heat need to be relevant...no team able to hang with the Dubs makes the playoffs boring...I still tune in tho

Too many teams, maybe. But too many stars teaming up has nothing to do with it. Its mostly 1 thing, at that's the majority of big market teams suck. That's the main reason!! And that's why the media continues to force feed bullshit stories about those terrible teams(Knicks, Lakers, etc). The NBA don't do a good enough job promoting the stars in smaller markets. But those ratings numbers don't matter. Ask baseball, the ratings for baseball have been declining for years yet they still sign lucrative TV deals. And the NBA will do so as well.....

Because the NBA is boring as fuck today.

As a diehard sports fan who loves the NBA I'm barely watching the shit

The referees are horrible and effect the games

The KD trade made the warriors invincible.
...so the outcome of the season was known on opening day for the past three years

Players are allowed to travel, carry, etc. While defenders have no protections

Positions mean nothing in today's game...they've fucked up and basically eliminated the games greatest position in the center

Way too many 3 point shots.....a mid range game is extinct

I could go on but this shit is just hard to watch

Top players cant even fucking shoot

The game is trash today and you can blame that fag Adam Silver

Lol none of this has nothing to do with ratings otherwise ratings would be bad for the last 5 to 10 years. They were actually going up.

Baseball trying to revamp cuz they are dying slowly their attendance is at an all time low I watch games here and there and seats are empty....Basketball is losing is competitiveness with these dominant teams ...The Pats dominant in the NFL but the league is still competitive enough that its still watchable...not to mention they have a favorable viewing schedule

The only reason why people are watching football is because of gambling and the amount of games! It has nothing to do with competitiveness. And again this ratings talk doesn't matter because just like baseball, the NBA will continue to get massive TV deals. .....

agree a 100% with this post

The NBA needs to promote the smaller markets better than they do and they need to get on ESPN's ass with the bullshit.

You can't have Stephen A. Smith and Kellerman spend 2 hours everyday sucking Los Angeles and New York's dick and then have Jeff Van Gundy chastise the southern NBA fans for not supporting their teams.

You just spent a whole week telling them their markets aren't shit.

I agree gambling has made football very successful...NBA and MLB will always get lucrative deals but ratings and attendance don't lie... both leagues are talking about cutting down games....hell MLB trying to change their conservative culture to bring more excitement into the games

Has a lot to do with competitiveness

truth....why tune in if you know the Dubs are going to run through teams to a 'Chip...they lost KD and Cousins and still smack the Blazers imagine if they were playing games with them healthy games would be unwatchable...great for Dubs fans but the rest of the league?

NBA is a star driven league....no star player :smh:

Imagine if there were only 40 games in the NBA. Mofos couldn't sell enough tickets for those games. Tickets would probably be 1k plus starting out and would probably have a year wait list. And ratings would be thru the roof.....

But Steph Curry, Giannis, Kawhi, KD are superstars and are still playing, some even say 1 of them is the games best player and biggest superstar so why aren't fans interested and watching?

The Warriors are supposed to be one of the greatest sports dynasty in history, basketball perfection. They're supposed to be a big deal, why is the commish talking moving late game start times? Shouldnt fans be dying to watch them play? Especially with no LeBron distractions this playoff?

It's boring to watch motherfuckers shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot and shoot some more.Foul, foul, foul and foul each other, sit on the bench looking like a wrapped christmas present.

You say the dumbest shit constantly about GS and never know what the fuck you are talking about.....

Warriors-Blazers drew viewers despite sweep: fourth-highest CF average ever for ESPN, up from 2017 WCF
The Western Conference Finals didn't look great from a market standpoint, but wound up being a ratings win for ESPN even with only four games.

Heading into the NBA’s conference finals, things looked pretty dire from a market standpoint. The Eastern Conference Final saw Milwaukee (the 36th-largest U.S. local market) facing Toronto (not counted at all in terms of local U.S. viewers), while the Western Conference Final saw Golden State (8th) facing Portland (22nd), a drop-off from last year’s 7-8 matchup with Houston and Golden State. However, while the ECF has generally struggled as predicted (including a 12-year-low in conference final overnight ratingsfor Game 2), the WCF actually wound up paying ratings dividends for ESPN despite the Warriors’ sweep.

The 5.8 overnight metered market rating average for the four games was up 23 percent from the 4.7 overnight rating ESPN/ABC drew in 2017 (the last time they televised the Western Conference Finals) for Warriors-Spurs, which was also a Warriors’ sweep. And that included a 5.9 across ESPN and ESPN2 (counting the alternate broadcast) for Game 4, which was up 40 percent from a 4.2 for Game 4 in 2017.

It’s really quite impressive that the Blazers-Warriors series wound up pulling in the ratings it did. Maybe there was some added interest on how Golden State would perform minus Kevin Durant, or some extra national following for Portland after their playoff exploits so far (a five-game win over Oklahoma City in Round 1 with a “bad shot” Damian Lillard dagger, and a seven-game win over Denver in Round 2), or maybe people are even more into today’s Warriors than they were in 2017 or 2018. But regardless of why it happened, that’s certainly a nice ratings outcome for ESPN.

U like to continue with your lies fucking faggot bitch but you are constantly exposed......

Bro good point because if people really analyze those rating numbers, it's only saying east coast isn't watching as much. That's all its saying.....

Fam you don't know how pissed I get when I see a player with a WIDE OPEN mid range shot, step back and shoot a fuckin 3 that 9 times outta 10 doesn't go in...

It's like these niggas like making things harder than they have to be so they can make the highlight play instead of the right play...

This season was tough wactching that shit first hand night in and night out I have to admit...:smh:

consider the east coast pop and all those viewers you will lose playing those games so late...it makes sense to move the game up on the west coast especially the Warriors and Laker games to open up viewership

Good point, living in a football city, one complain about the NBA is that there is a game every night.

Yep and that's the main reason why NFL does good ratings. There is only 16 games in the whole season and basically comes on 1 day. The other is gambling. It has nothing to do with how competitive teams are or not........

Read the article little girl. Thats the 4th highest for ESPN. But last years Western Conference Finals set all time records for the league. This years ratings are down from that. This whole thread is about people being disastified with a lackluster product. Now youre doing that fag Adam Silver routine of where you tell us syrup on shit make them pancakes and everything is OK even though shit sucks. :smh: :smh:

No ones getting up to watch a Dubs Final without LeBron. The ratings are gonna be garbage. This whole thread is people letting you know we dont care. It doesnt mean nothing.
