That’s just it though. I shouldn’t need any further explanation in order to enjoy it more. It's supposed to be a horror movie. It's supposed to affect you on a visceral level. If you have to dig for the deeper meaning it didn't do its job.

The movie was ok. From the trailers I was actually expecting it to be better than it was. The twist was kind of predictable. I enjoyed parts of it but I think it was built up so much I was expecting more.
Hadnt seen it yet... But these are/were kinda my sentiments on "Get Out". Great premise.. subpar execution. I will go and purchase the ticket tho. Still looking forward to checking it out.
when i left the theater i said to myself that the movie was just ok, and wasn't what i expected. But as i thought about scenes over and over, it all started to make sense.

I actually loved Get Out. I thought it did a fantastic job of telling a compelling story AND delivering a powerful message about this country’s fucked up racial dynamics. Us may provide a statement about race, class, identity, surviving psychological trauma, abandonment, etc. but what it does not successfully do is serve as a highly watchable horror flick. Maybe it works as a think piece but it definitely doesn’t work as a coherent story. I’d love to hear your thoughts after you peep it.

i didn't view it as a horror movie or expect to be scared (real horror movies don't exist anymore), i saw it as more suspense or psychological thriller. There was only one part that made me say "oh shit".

It’s really not a “Horror” movie, yes it’s classified as one. The “Horror’s” in the realization that the things portrayed in the movie are actually part of our lives. That’s the true horror.

Nyong’o’s character is a little girl when her dad wins her a “Thriller” T-shirt from a game booth at an amusement park.
She puts on the T-shirt just before she wanders into a house of a mirrors — a decision that will imprint on the character’s life forever.
This “Thriller” throwback surfaces shortly after HBO’s documentary “Leaving Neverland,” centered around Jackson’s alleged sexual abuse of underage boys. The film lead to many fans calling for a boycott of Michael Jackson’s music.
Did the current controversy create a conversation between the studio and the director?
“No,” Peele told Variety earlier this week at the New York City premiere of “Us.”
“No, we start in the eighties and it’s an image of well documented duality and the film is about duality,” Peele said, adding that this nod is, “a tone-setter, and I think it sets a chilling tone, but one of much duality.”
One of the film’s central themes is human duality and the battle between good and evil. “This movie is about the fact that we are our own worst enemy,” Peele told Variety earlier this month at the South by Southwest premiere of the film.

Horror doesn't have to be scary.
Look at Heriditary, not scary,but its disturbing .
Scary is subjective as well
Maybe I've watched far too many movies and my own background as a writer might be working against me, but I was able to predict the majority of developments and plot twists in this movie early on. The movie was really entertaining, but not very suspenseful for me.
Horror and be completely atmospheric.

Does predictability work against the quality of a film though?
I heard people say this like it’s a diss.
I had my wife watch In the Heat of the Night with Sidney Poitier and she said it was very predictable. I’m amazed like “you just totally missed the entire social commentary of race relations and character dynamics because you was trying to solve the mystery?”

I completely disagree. If horror isn’t scary (superficially, psychologically, emotionally) then it’s pointless.
But in addition to that, Us isn’t even a well told story (as is evidenced by all the expository stuff from the Red character). A movie shouldn’t have to explain itself to its audience, or have to be endlessly dissected to be appreciated.
Get Out could be singularly enjoyed as a thriller/suspense/light horror flick and didn’t have to rely heavily on subtext (although there was plenty beneath the surface). This one obviously needs help.

Most people liked it. There’s always a few that will have issues, that’s life. If all you hear is the negativity, then change your focus.
Well, I did say it was "really entertaining." It's not a "diss," but it does work against the "suspense" part of a suspense horror flick if you can see the plot twists coming from a mile away. I figured out the big reveal for this film in literally the first few minutes. I enjoyed the film, and I do recommend it, but it just lacked the suspense I'd hoped for going into it.Does predictability work against the quality of a film though?

i got no problem with people saying the movie was horrible, but the acting? nah, that was one of the better points of the movie.
Mostly, the dad... the acting mismatch between him and Lupita was glaring. She pretty much carried the movie.
