Killer Mike Urges Michael Jordan To Invest Jordan Profits Into Black Owned Bank

Atlanta MC Killer Mike has made himself a name as an artist who is very adamant on addressing the social ills in the Black community, and now he’s urging NBA legend and owner of Jordan shoe wear brand Michael Jordan to do the same.

Killer Mike, born Michael Render, isssued an Instagram post and challenge to Jordan to invest his profits from the Jordan brand into a black owned bank.

“We know that with your example other Players will follow.I’m sure Jim Brown, Kareem & Bill Russell will agree. Love ya man. U truly were/are the greatest,” stated Mike in the post encouraging Jordan to invest his money directly into the community.

Jordan made headlines July 25 after the icon donated $1 million a piece to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s Institute for Community-Police Relations due to his concerns of growing tension among minority citizens and law enforcement across the nation.

Although the donations were of good intentions they drew much criticism, as many felt that Jordan was riding the fence to keep his image intact as opposed to displaying an interest in the ills of the black community directly.

Taking the initiative to support black owned banks is nothing new to Mike, as the MC recently started an account at Citizen’s Trust Bank in Atlanta, along with Young Thug, Young Dolph, T.I., and others.

Check out Mike’s Instagram post aimed at the legendary, influential Jordan below.

Why pick on Mike? He isn't the only rich Black man. Get Robert Johnson (BET founder) to drop some loot. He made more $$$ exploiting Black people than Mike ever did.
I doubt that. But I dont think he is picking on Mike. He just knows generations of black people spend big money on Jordan's at the expense of there own economic well being.

It's a fair and friendly challenge. What harm could it do oblige? He can always decline if he wants.

I hate how black people try to other blacks what to do with their money, knowing damn well if they had that same dough they wouldn't do it. It's annoying. Don't tell me what to do bro! It's my money, I'm not obligated to do shit. If I do something its gonna be on my terms and my schedule.

Bob Johnson made more $$$ off of exploiting Black people...period. Just tired of the constant focus on Jordan.

Mike made more off black people buying his products with there hard earned money hand to hand. Bob just had a big payday when he sold the station.

Every black person I know spent money on Jordan's before. Bob not so much.

Not for nothing, but in other communities, those who make it have a moral obligation to give back. Its not no ifs, whens or buts, you gotta do it.

Thats how communities grow man.

You can't really say what Mike will or won't say, especially if the question is asked the right way. There was an article I read somewhere about how Jordan donates significantly to charities but doesn't publicize it. He didn't do himself any favors with the old "republicans but nikes too" back in the day, but everyone wants to see receipts in today's day and age.

If MJ does alot of the right things, but everything he does is behind closed doors, how will that inspire others to follow his lead?

When he does things for UNC we always hear about it. We never hear about it when he does something for us.

What would be the advantage of a black owned bank? Are black folks finding it hard to get loans or credit?

Don’t even need to invest , just drop some deposits into the bank..... at the end of the day we can all do our part.... primary checking in banks in our community

Tell us some examples. Names please

Walk into any Jewish or Asian or Arab community center or YMCA or schools or hospitals, have a look at their founders and donors names. All people from their own community.

All the Asians who keep buying store after store in every corner. They aint all related. They just keep proping up their own peeps.

Im in Jamaica right now, all the stores are owned by Indians, they move their people in. Chinese build roads here, keep the toll money, move their people in, they starting to open stores and supermarkets too now.

I can go and on.

All these communities get built by people making it and opening opportunities for their own.

Also, trust me when i say this, ive had the chance to speak to people from all over the world, through school and work, and they all tell you the same things, it is their duty to prop up their own.

Jordan’s response:
“ I don’t want no niggas banking wit me!”

Community centers? You know how many thousands of those have been built by Black people in our communities? That, and the ones that were government funded, after being agitated for by Black community leaders. I thought you meant something else. Black communities ain’t short on community centers. Also, has anyone ever checked to see how many Michael Jordan has funded anyway? Who even knows? Because he rarely if ever announces the shit.

As far as the stores owned by Indians and Chinese , cool.
Well guess what? Because of a Black ball player named Jordan who had so much success with his shoe, many other Black players walk right into endorsement deals of the same ilk or better. Not Chinese players, not Indian , not even many white players, if any.

Whatever your culture focuses on , it can make gains in. We don’t focus on stores as much as we do basketball. They succeed better in stores. We succeed more in b ball.

If Mike (Jordan) was really about supporting Black financial empowerment, he would've done something like this a long time ago.
He wouldn't need someone like Killer Mike to try to (guilt) persuade him to do it now... :dunno:

i'm not saying jordan or oprah shouldn't give back. I'm saying I don't need someone telling me specifically what to do and when to do it. I agree with you playa.
