Rain Olson Daugherty, 44, was charged for the incident that took place at the East West Bank in the Sunset district on November 29

A San Francisco police officer who was suspended for three years after sending racist and homophobic tweets was charged on Wednesday with robbing a bank.

Rain Olson Daugherty, 44, was charged for the incident that took place at the East West Bank in the Sunset district on November 29.

Daugherty was identified by both a bank teller's testimony and on surveillance video, according to SF Gate.

He was said to have handed a note to the teller demanding $50 and $100 before fleeing the scene with approximately $9,050 in cash, according to a FBI agent's court filing. The robbery occurred just after 2pm.

FBI agent Gary Grzymala also claimed that the man told the woman to 'calm down, just do it,' at the time of the robbery.

Footage showed a man who appeared to be in his 40s and had a light beard. The man was seen wearing a plaid button-down shirt and a baseball cap.

Daugherty was arrested on Tuesday after two Internal Affairs officers identified him in photos. One of the officers had worked with the man while at the Mission Station.

The 44-year-old was formally charged on Wednesday and is being represented by a federal public defender. He was identified by a teller while in a photo lineup.

In 2012, federal agents discovered text messages from Daugherty and a group of officers that disparaged racial minorities, women and members of the LGBT community.

The investigation was in part to find the corruption done under the tutelage of Sgt. Ian Furminger.

Daugherty filed papers stating that he was 'deeply ashamed' for the texts, but the officer tried to avoid punishment and claimed that it was past the legal deadline for disciplinary action. He was suspended in 2015 and had been on unpaid status

Some of the exchanges included text proclaiming 'white power,' while another called black people 'monkeys.'

Furminger was said to have texted that 'cross-burning lowers blood pressure!'

Both Furminger and another officer - Edmond Robles - were convicted in 2014 of unrelated charges of stealing money that officers had found during drug busts.

While the police department learned of the texts in December 2012, they didn't act publicly on them until March 2015. Then-Police Chief Greg Suhr announced that he was firing nine officers, including Daugherty.

While Daugherty filed papers stating that he was 'deeply ashamed' for the texts, he also he claimed that the legal deadline for disciplinary action had gone past the year expiration date.

But after a Superior Court agreed with his stance, a state appeals court overruled the decision and claimed that the year limit started in December 2014. That date coincided with the criminal investigation of Furminger.

Daugherty was suspended in 2015 and is currently on unpaid status.

Did you read your own article playa? I don't know about the other cops but this cac isn't getting paid, probably why he robbed the bank.

The point being highlighted was that years later he is/was still a cop with cop benefits and was never actually fired. Many cops placed on unpaid status eventually can and usually do sue to collect back pay. At least many of them do that aren't later charged with bank robbery.
