Robert Townsend Breakfast Club Interview

Always been a huge Townsend fan but I never saw this movie. Gonna have to check it out. I did see "Blankman" though several times. Loved it. Hilarious spoof. Some people don't like it though. I always did from day one.

Townsend was ahead of his time. People won't put in context what he accomplished until he's gone and then forget about it forever like many of us do with our pioneers.
Og's understand it the youth dosent... We remember when movies, tv didn't have a large representation of us... Thing is it's more money opportunities now and diff venues like social media and the internet where modern day people can cash in unlike the vets of old... A Robert Townsend of old would've really benefited from today's revenue opportunities

Yep. Dude was a hustler and grinder for real and was gonna find a way to get it done. Him and Spike Lee were the lone independent voices back then and created or founded what later became I guess you could call it Black Hollywood. Both those dudes started a Renaissance back in the mid 80s. Nobody nowhere was doing it like that. Only other person was maybe Leon Kennedy with his Penitentiary movies but that was it. Paul Mooney spoke on that era at length. Of course Richard and Eddie were doing their thing but only one major black star at a time was allowed to shine back then.
