2019 Might be a rough year (GM shutting down five plants and more)

statements like this can be seen as kicking people when they are down

it wont make them introspective

its more likely to have them double down
and continue to vote for the gop

All true... But phuckem. Poor whites have voted GOP since the parties switched sides over civil rights. All they have to do is look at the data. Red states have the highest unemployment, most uneducated, with economies stuck in the 1920s. If none of that matters nor has it been mattering......... Might as well twist the knife in further. They don't wanna change, so deal with these jokes...

For the record, these plants closing is bad for everyone... But they gone, probably forever... So this isn't a teaching moment. They just gonna have to lay in this pain they, in part brought on themselves.

Y'all niggas better learn to speak and write it then hope the rest of this hemisphere has lack boarder laws.

Better start thinking globally because being 'American' ain't going be enough anymore.

*two cents*

Coworkers and I were talking about this during lunch.

This country is not going to make (manufacture) anything anymore. Used to be when you could walk from your highschool graduation to a manufacturing plant and be set for 30 - 40 years with a nice pension at the end. Talk to your kids and educate them on industries that will stand the test of time.
This mentality is part of the problem. People need to stop thinking they are owed a career. Those times are over. Folks gotta hustle to make sure their skills are in demand. Corporations' allegiance are with its shareholders now.

Then in true Trump fashion I’m blaming his ass since he’s the so called potus. Thought he’d keep factories from shutting down like all you white folk thought son. Where all that bullshit he was talking or is GM not an American company? Yea, it’s Trumps fault:rolleyes:
He can't keep something that he has no control over from failing. That's like saying Barack Obama should have made a way that George Zimmerman should have still had to do prison time after he was found not guilty. Trump can only try to save the things he has the power to do so over.

As a Native Detroiter this really makes me sad.

But the auto industry has been in a flux since the late '70's. When the automation and robotics started to be used heavily.

Since that time the:
  • layoffs,
  • plant closures,
  • work-force reduction,
  • out sourcing of contractors,
  • movement of productions plants to non- unionized parts of the USA or out of the country
Have become more frequent all in the name of saving money? But the price of automobiles have not decreased at all.

This is not a fault of trump, obama, bush or even clinton. The auto industry has been in almost a 40+ years slide.

This will all continue with the greater adaption of the public to ride-sharing and agenda 21/2030 protocols.

Sadly, the industry which placed the world on wheels is not dead but will never be what it was!

As much as I love my job I always keep that in the back of my head I got suckered into that thinking when I was working for Nextel...I got a huge wake up call when Sprint Brought out Nextel.

Off to my nearest GMC dealer checking that 2019 Sierra Denali. I see an opportunity. Conditions optimal.
Bad forecast car sales....check
Dealership trying to make end of month quota....check
Winter storm in progress....check

Your gonna have a hell of a time getting random washers out of unibody cavities as those workers get pissed over losing their jobs.

Like I said before this situation with GM has nothing to do with Trump, it's strickly based on GM car sales aren't doing well. Trump has nothing to do with people not buying their cars.

No one's car sales are doing well. Ford is killing almost all of their car lineup and Honda's significantly scaled back production of the Accord.

But you have to acknowledge that increasing losses due to Trump's tariffs has accelerated this trend.

Always hated the way they made the Impala one of their low budget get my kid something for high school type of car. They should've made it a generational line like they do with the Camaro. I LOVED the 94-96 Impalas but the newer ones were garbage. Fuckin Malibus looked better.

Other thing I hate with chevy is that they slap the got damn "SS" badge on everything.
 cosign
The impalas were basically Malibus with a different name and a wack ass logo!

Fucking hated them shits..every hoodrat got one with their tax refund

A lot of the workers in the industry got too comfortable. Not many of them prepared themselves for the changing times by taking some night classes earning an associates or whatever to keep up with those trends ms.

Watch it sucka this has nothing to do with Trump.

No, it has a lot to do with Drumpf... GM is talking that BS to appease their investors and stay politically neutral. Read in between what they said and look directly at Ford's comments about not making most of their cars..... Sure sales is a part of it but Profits$$ and margins is the bigger picture. Thanks to those tariffs and the reactive tariffs automakers now face, margins are thinner than ever.

The one analyst stated in the past GM would markdown a vehicle to make the sale (and make them more appealing to potential buyers), but they can't afford to do that now... There's even lower margins. And THAT IS DRUMPFS FAULT.

I could expound on this so much and so far, but yes he plays a part... His hands are not completely free from this dirt. Now all of the big 3 automakers are cutting significant production of passenger cars.... That's a lot of jobs.... Gone.

they tried this 10 years ago and it failed

got rid of gas guzzling cars and said Americans want gas guzzling SUVs and crossovers

them dummies came out with 3-5 different models of the same gatdamn crossover

that shit aint work so they came out with 3-5 sedans that all look the same

swear car companies are so dumb

Americans like our space

the sedan isnt the problem its the engines

give us a sedan with an efficient engine and we’ll buy it

Like GM said people are just not buying passenger cars anymore like they once did, so instead of wasting money making them and not selling them they have decided to discontinue them instead.

You are wrong, some of this is on Trump. Trump's tariffs have hurt the auto industry because of the price of steel. True people are not buying sedans like they once did. His tariffs has cost the industry over 1 billion. That cannot be ignored, overlooked, and pushed under the rug.

Yup, the Manufacturers cut THEIR costs but the consumer never benefits. The savings are not passed on, they pad the pockets of the Execs, etc.

Stop blaiming Trump it's not his fault. The car sales are just down. More people are taking Uber and Lyft's these days anyway which have also caused car sales to decrease.

You didn't spell his name right so your comment is not going to get a proper response from me. Moving on!

If people wanted to buy sedan cars they would buy them. This has nothing to do with no damn tariffs. People are just not buying cars sedans anymore like they once did cause they are buying crossovers and suv's cause they are what's popular now.

GM knows another big recession is coming and they getting a head start on its impact.

They don’t want to be caught blindsided like the last recession cause my them to shutdown a bunch of their iconic brands like Pontiac and Oldsmobile.

And they don’t want to rely on a bail out like last time.

Shit is about to hit the fan with this economy.

BROTHER,

I agree with you to a degree. But the industry would dip and come roaring back for years, then dip and roar back. So, many thought it was not going to be permanent, long and protracted.

Being able to look back over a nearly 40+ plus year slide you and many others wonder..."WHY DIDN'T PEOPLE SEE THE WRITING ON THE WALL?"

Thus the beauty off hindsight and "monday morning quarterbacking"

BROTHER,

I guarantee you people will be saying the same things about people invested in the markets, when the real correction comes and the crash occurs. or when any of the numerous bubbles burst:
  • housing
  • student loans
  • debt national
  • auto loans
  • derivatives
  • precious metal physical control versus certificates oversold by several times actual available quantity
Or people might say those with thinking and intellect jobs should have saw the writing on the wall in relation to:
  • AI and Quantum Computing
  • Self repairing technology
We might be able to monday-morning-quarterback it all to say:
  • the lawyers,
  • doctors,
  • accountants,
  • architects,
  • IT professionals
and others knowledge based professionals should have seen the impact of the financial crashes, bubbles bursting, AI and quantum computing coming.

And taken steps to transition to another career, looking 40+ years ahead from today. If we are alive and blessed to see the future.

Nice post BROTHER.

:roflmao2: That redesigned Corvette better be FIRE.

The Zora concept never materialized and I don’t think it will. Rear engine drive? Nah, besides all mentioned and other issues it the engineering. Why jap and foreigners always killed us with engine designs. Shit you still see Honda’s from the 70s rolling around
