Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum indicated he’s indefinitely suspending his campaign in light of a fatal Friday shooting in Tallahassee.
An unidentified gunman entered a yoga studio late Friday afternoon and began firing, injuring at least six people — two fatally — reported TV station WCTV Eyewitness News.
The gunman then died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Tallahassee spokesperson Alison Faris.
Gillum, the current Tallahassee mayor who had appeared earlier in the day with former President Barack Obama during a campaign rally, thanked law enforcement’s quick response to the crime scene.
“No act of gun violence is acceptable,” Gillum tweeted Friday. “I’m in close communication with law enforcement officials and will be returning to Tallahassee tonight.”
Friday evening, authorities said two people were dead and the other four were in critical condition.
Nearby bar patron Alex Redding claimed a hyperventilating woman rushed into the establishment followed by a man with a bloody head. Two others quickly followed crying for help saying a tall man sporting a beard and acting oddly entered Hot Yoga Tallahassee before spraying bullets at the class.
The first bloodied guy said he attempted to halt the shooter but was pistol-whipped before the gunman took his own life.
Gillum is locked in a tight battle with Republican candidate and vociferous President Trump supporter Ron DeSantis.
