'The gator jumped up and struck the wing,' pilot says

ORLANDO, Fla. - What should have been a smooth landing turned scaly when a pilot at Orlando Executive Airport hit an 11-foot alligator that was crossing the runway.

Local pilot Brad Pierce posted a photo to Facebook on Tuesday, showing the lifeless reptile and explaining the information he was given about the incident.

"I was told the pilot was flying a Navajo and the gator jumped up and struck the wing during his landing. The gator was killed instantly and the aircraft sustained damage to the wing," Pierce wrote.

Pierce's post has been shared more than 2,000 times.

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority said a Piper PA 31 was landing around 2:15 a.m. on Thursday when the plane fatally struck the 11-foot, 500-pound reptile. The gator was killed on impact. The pilot wasn't injured but the aircraft did sustain some damage.

Traffic at the airport was not impacted after the collision or when a trapper removed the animal.

The last time a plane in Florida hit an alligator was in 2013 at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, according to the Federal Aviation Authority wildlife strike database. Locally, an alligator was struck at Orlando International Airport on Sept. 12, 2012.

Four total plane versus alligator collisions have been reported at OIA since 1998, the FAA reported.

The FAA does not list any alligator strikes at Orlando Executive Airport.

One animal has been struck at that airport in the past year, and that was a bird on Jan. 28, 2016. A total of 147 animals have been struck at Orlando Executive Airport since 1990, the vast majority of which were birds, including owls, hawks and one bald eagle.

photos.medleyphoto.6193934.jpg

A dance teacher in Miami-Dade was fired for allegedly throwing a surprise party with X-rated decorations and favors at school.

Parents told WSVN that the teacher works at Mater Lakes Academy, a charter school for grades six through 12. The party took place in the teacher’s classroom after school on Wednesday, with students as young as 11 years old.
A mother of one of the students told WSVN that the party was for a former male student and when he walked into the room, “they surprised him with a hat that had a penis attached to the top and a string to be able to pull it so it can get erected.”

The party also had candles and hats shaped as genitalia, WSVN reports.

School administrators told WSVN that the teacher, who remains unidentified, has been fired and said in a statement:

“Once we became aware of the situation, we addressed it immediately and have taken the appropriate measures and the individual has been dismissed.”

Florida Prisoner Brutally Killed And Mutilated By Fellow Inmate, Officials Say

An inmate at a facility near Jacksonville had his eyes gouged out and ear removed.

An inmate at a Florida prison who allegedly brutally murdered his cellmate gouged out the victim’s eyes and wore one of his ears on a makeshift necklace before officers were aware of the crime, The Miami Herald reported.

The attack is believed to have occurred on Thursday morning at the Columbia Correctional Institution Annex, with sources telling the Herald that the killer, who has not yet been identified, left his victim’s eyeballs in a cup with the intention of later eating or drinking them.
The slain inmate, identified by the Florida Department of Corrections as 58-year-old Larry Mark, was serving a life sentence for a murder committed in 1981.

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS
Larry Mark, 58, who was serving a life sentence for murder, allegedly was killed in prison late last week by his cellmate.

Citing several prison sources, the Herald reported that Mark’s cellmate had become angry at him for pestering him. The killer allegedly put his victim’s ear on a string around his neck and showed it off to several inmates as he made his way to the dining hall.

In a statement to NBC affiliate WTLV, the secretary for the Florida Department of Corrections said that “any loss of life at the hands of an inmate is intolerable.”

“We are working with our partners at [the Florida Department of Law Enforcement] to investigate this death and ensure anyone responsible is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” the statement read.

The prison is located about 50 miles west of Jacksonville. Officials with the prison and the state law enforcement agency did not immediately return HuffPost requests for comment.

Known by the pseudonym Paul Flart, a security guard in a Florida hospital saw a video of his farts go viral in 2018. Flart - real name Doug, last name unknown - spent much of his job sitting in the lobby, which he noticed had good acoustics. This inspired him to create an Instagram account to document his farts for about six months. After someone uploaded a compilation of Paul Flart's farts to YouTube, the video went viral.

Unfortunately, Paul Flart's boss was less then amused and fired him for his actions. Flart live streamed his firing on Instagram. He wasn't fired for the fart videos exactly. The issue was he uploaded content on a client's property while wearing his official uniform.

Despite the setback, Flart is optimistic about his future. He plans to keep making videos using his pseudonym, hoping the gimmick could turn into a sustainable social media career.

Police identify suspected gunman and 2 people killed at hot yoga studio in Tallahassee

(CNN)A gunman on Friday shot six people, two fatally, at a hot yoga studio in Tallahassee, Florida, police said.

The two people killed were identified as Nancy Van Vessem, 61, and Maura Binkley, 21, according to Tallahassee Chief of Police Michael DeLeo.
The suspect, Scott Paul Beierle, 40, of Deltona, Florida, died of a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound, DeLeo said.
One other person was pistol-whipped.

DeLeo said police were unable immediately to draw a connection between the suspect and the victims of the shooting.

Around 5:30 p.m. Friday, police responded to a call about a shooting at Hot Yoga Tallahassee.
There were indications people fought the gunman and some tried to save others, the chief said.
Responding officers arrived in about three minutes and found the gunman already dead.
The six gunshot victims were taken to hospitals. Vessem and Binkley died at the hospital and the other four are in critical condition, DeLeo said.
All indications are that the shooting was the act of a single person, the chief said.
"As we process the gut-wrenching act of violence that took place this evening in a place of peace in our community, we hold in our hearts everyone who is affected and lift them up in love," officials tweeted from the city's verified account.
Police know his name but aren't releasing any details yet about the shooter, he said.

Volusia County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Scott Smoak tells news outlets the man was stuck for about an hour early Wednesday before being pulled to safety.

Authorities say they've rescued a Florida man who got stuck after climbing into a 30-feet deep well just "to say he did it."

Volusia County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Scott Smoak tells news outlets the man was stuck for about an hour early Wednesday before being pulled to safety.

Smoak said the man didn't have the strength to pull himself out of the narrow well but he was awake and talking to rescuers the entire time. He says the man suffered a few bumps and bruises.

The well is located in DeLand, which is near Daytona Beach on Florida's Atlantic Coast.
He says the well is one of many in the area, and it needs a barrier around it to "keep people from going down in these things."

A man has been charged with attacking a person dressed as a minion cartoon character along a popular Florida boardwalk.

Authorities say a Florida man was arrested after complaining to deputies that he might have been sold the wrong drug.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook that 49-year-old Douglas Peter Kelly was charged Tuesday with possession of methamphetamine.

Deputies say Kelly called the sheriff's office earlier Tuesday and explained that he had bought some meth about a week earlier. He said he had a bad reaction after smoking the drug and asked if deputies could test the narcotic's quality.
At a detective's invitation, Kelly drove to the sheriff's office and handed over a clear, crystal-like substance wrapped in aluminum foil. Authorities say it field-tested positive for methamphetamine, and Kelly was arrested.
Kelly was being held on $5,000 bail. Jail records didn't list an attorney.

MIAMI (AP) — A homeless Florida man with no arms has been charged with stabbing a Chicago tourist.

Miami Beach police say 46-year-old Jonathan Crenshaw held a pair of scissors with his feet and stabbed 22-year-old Cesar Coronado just after midnight Tuesday. The Miami Herald reports that Crenshaw is a popular fixture in the area, known for painting on canvases along a trendy spot in South Beach.

A friend who was traveling with Coronado said they asked Crenshaw for directions when he suddenly jumped up and stabbed Coronado in his arm. He was taken to the hospital.
