He has or had a vision. I'm not looking on if he had a 'classic' album. His works, the range, catalog - modernly, I say he has it.

A lot of genius status people have some sort of personal character flaw. They are definitely narcissistic and arrogant. That doesn't just make a genius, but he hits all the points.

Why di so many people ESPECIALLY black women (surprisingly) defend Kanye continued fuckery...

Using his mother's death as a constant excuse along with his "alleged " mental issues

Couldn't he just be a spoiled self involved tantrum throwing deluded narcissist mamma boy who makes really good music?

But her death switched something he ain't came back from. It's different.

  • Graduation (2007)
Then 2007, Donda dies, and if I'm not mistaken from complications of elective surgery that KANYE paid for. Guilt trip. After that you got:
  • 808's and Heartbreak (2008)
  • My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010)
Before that though, in 2008, he breaks up with his fiance and that's how you got 808's. MBDTF is where it is apparent something is off.
Dude met Kim in 2012 and married in 2014. All that gave you:
  • Yeezus
  • Life of Pablo
  • Ye
  • November release

It's not like Kanye wasn't doing asshole stuff BEFORE she died.

I acknowledge the guy's talent although I've honestly never liked him....but genius...I would not call him one. I'm sure he thinks he is though.
 
I've been lucky to have worked with some of the most smart individuals that some would consider genius's but there's a drawback and that is,their mentally unstable and have mental illness and all types of diagnosis's;whatever type of profession or way's to make a good salary was there in that crazy house,from ex white house workers,professional heavyweight boxers,olypic track stars,doctors,a math wiz and even an ex nba player.Not all were genius but 90% of them were so focused on being the best at whatever they chose to do that they did it and awhole lot of other things,some of it is far fetched but some of it is true....it used to amaze me some of the things they would tell me....to me that's genius so Kanye can be that because he set out to do big things,things you may not agree with but he's doing it,only way to stop him is death.

If everyone could do it,they would but they can't

There was an earlier thread debating the issue of whether or not Kanye is a genius. I remember in that one, a majority of respondents said they thought he was one.

It's interesting to see how opinions have made a 180 degree shift following his MAGA hat, "slavery is a choice" and Trump ass-kissing fuckery.

Btw, I was one of the ones arguing he was not a genius.

Not defending Kanye or arguing in favor of his self-given genius label, but I don’t think bad albums disqualify him. Prince is my all time favorite artist and an absolute genius and he has quite a few sucky albums. Geniuses often make music that isn’t understood or appreciated for years or even decades after it’s released.

Having said that, I think the biggest argument against him being a genius is the fact that he obsessively refers to himself as such. I can’t find evidence of anyone else who I would consider a musical genius doing so. That’s just not how they roll.
 
Here's a question for comparison and contrasting....and I think it's a good comparison although some may not.
Is Quentin Tarentino a genius? He rehashes other people's shit sometimes, but he always puts his own mark on it(something a good sampler does), and he has made some really good shit, visually and dialogue-wise. He brought careers back from the dead, made Oscar winning and nominated flicks, etc. He also can be an asshole from what I understand.
