Tesla DOULED Sales in the third quarter! DOUBLED!

Time to check out their stock ahead of earnings huh?
You should have grabbed some Friday like I did and all of the smart money did - when all of those silly clickbait stories about Elon Musk caused that one day dip. I bought some Friday at 265 and sold today at 315. The stock closed today at 301; the 'good' news will lead to a profit-taking selloff tomorrow and I plan to buy more when/if it dips below 290.

I didn’t expect Elon to settle with SEC so soon, I was hoping to grab some today.:(

If you have orders lined up for over 2 years then sales is just your ability to deliver and actualize the sale

So basically this shit is saying little

So...

Selling 58k is saying little?

Again tesla has already sold more electric cars this year than every type of electric car sold last year.

Model 3 was 5th best selling car in the US...

Lol saying little. Has any car company posted growth like this in the past 100 years?

I'll say it another way.

If you collect deposits on weed for 2 years

Then you get a batch of weed and call your peeps.

They come through and you sell all your weed.

Is making a claim that this is the fastest selling weed of all time really real?

He was taking orders for 2 years man.

If he could have delivered 2 years ago sales wouldn't spike like that

The deposit collected were for 35k model

The cars delivered are 56-78k

You're WRONG.

The vast majority of deliveries aren't the people that put the deposit down 2 years ago. They are waiting for the release of the cheaper model

Also there's a huge difference in deposits and deliveries. But thays another thread

Finally the car out sold all BMW audi, and Mercedes Models during this time frame.

I'm seeing them all the time now. It's like seeing a BMW or Audi.

I am seeing it too, the more I really pay attention.

you keep repeating false info even after seeing the sals numbers in the other thread...

anyway when are you going to start a thread announcing Tesla announcing viable paths to profitability

Proof?

450k reserves @1k
32% cancellations

35k model doesnt have a release rate

Performance, dual, ect.models were not announced at the time of reservations being accepted.

Tesla's Model 3 Reservations Paradox Explained
May 4, 2018 2:28 PM•TSLA
Summary
  • In the Q1 2018 earnings call this week, Tesla indicated that Model 3 reservations exceeded 450,000. Tesla bulls will take this as an indication that cancellations are minimal.
  • However, a report by Bernstein has suggested that more than 70% of reservation holders are cancelling.
  • Both of these apparently conflicting statements can be true.
  • I explain how, and make my own analysis of take-up rates, and a forecast of when Model 3 sales will become demand-constrained.
Introduction

We know that Tesla (TSLA) has about 450,000 reservations for the Model 3, but we do not know how many sales will be generated by those reservations. A recently published report by Bernstein claimed that the take-up rate for Model 3 reservations was less that 30% which, if true, would indicate that sales generated by those reservations will be less than 150,000 cars.

Q3 all BMW models including SUV (not COMNINED, Individual models)

In the last thread, it compared SEDANS and specific to Model 3

No matter how you slice it 5th best selling car period (and still ramping)

But carry on.

ABCNews
US auto sales fell by 4 percent in the third quarter

The Associated Press

Vehicle sales are slowing down despite a run on big SUVs.

Major automakers said Tuesday that U.S. sales fell 7 percent in September and 4 percent for the June-through-September quarter, compared with the same periods last year.

Weaker numbers for September and the third quarter wiped out a 1.8 percent gain during the first half of the year, and left auto sales on pace with 2017. Some analysts had cautioned that the first-half gains were driven by incentives and low-margin sales to fleet buyers like rental car companies.

Industry officials blamed the recent weakness partly on hurricanes — in both 2017 and 2018.

Ford sales analyst Erich Merkle suggested that the September numbers were hurt by Hurricane Florence, which flooded parts of the Carolinas. That made it tougher to compete with September 2017, when sales were boosted by owners replacing cars after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, he said.

Edmunds analyst Jeremy Acevedo also noted that while prices and interest rates for auto buyers are rising, favorable credit deals are getting harder to find.

"The trickle-down effect of elevated interest rates really started hitting car shoppers in September," he said.

General Motors Co.'s chief economist, Elaine Buckberg, predicted 2018 will be the fourth-straight year with industry sales above 17 million vehicles. She said a new trade agreement among the U.S., Mexico and Canada will ease uncertainty for the auto industry, and consumer confidence remains high because of the strong job market.

Confidence might explain why more consumers are gravitating toward SUVs and trucks despite having to spend more for gasoline to keep them running.

Ford said September sales of Lincoln Navigators — a tiny fraction of the company's sales — soared 77 percent, and they stayed on dealer lots for an average of just 12 days. At General Motors, a 12 percent gain in combined sales of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon large SUVs helped push the company's average transaction price up by $700.

Meanwhile, Ford reported that sales of cars plunged 25.7 percent in September, compared with a 9.9 percent drop for pickups and a 2.7 percent dip for SUVs.

Jack Hollis, general manager of the Toyota division in North America, said on a call with reporters that the industrywide ratio of truck and SUV sales to car sales is nearing 70-30, adding that he is "not so sure that it's stopping quite yet."

While industry officials expressed optimism in the economy, automakers have other concerns.

New U.S. tariffs on imported steel and aluminum could increase their costs. A new trade deal also could make vehicles more expensive by raising the amount of content required from North America to avoid duties, and requiring that at least 40 percent of a car's content be built where workers earn $16 an hour.

Here is how major automakers fared at U.S. sales in the third quarter, according to Edmunds, which provides content, including automotive tips and reviews, for distribution by The Associated Press:

— General Motors, down 11 percent to 694,638.

— Toyota, down 6 percent to 634,923.

— Ford, down 4 percent to 606,939.

— Fiat Chrysler, up 10 percent to 564,507.

— Honda, down 5 percent to 419,173.

— Nissan, down 9 percent to 343,987.

— Subaru, up 4 percent to 180,558.

— Hyundai, up 1 percent to 166,653.

— Kia, down 2 percent to 158,479.

— Volkswagen, up 2 percent to 93,330.

— BMW, down 1 percent to 83,236.

— Mercedes-Benz, down 14 percent to 77,965.

— Mazda, down 10 percent to 71,198.

This is a new world... you can pick and choose your facts.

3rd quarter sales figures...

Tesla delivered aka Sold 83,500 vehicles during the third quarter, beating Wall Street analysts' expectations for deliveries.

Mercedes-Benz, down 14 percent to 77,965.

BMW, down 1 percent to 83,236.

You must not be familiar with the field of accounting

What is the difference between bookings vs sales?

What is the difference between sales and delivery

Let's start with the basics..............

Another example

If I make a downpayment on a house on Oct 1st

And closing is Nov 1st

What month was the sales done in? Oct or Nov?

When can I recognize revenue, Oct or Nov?

Just to kill the back and forth:

Principles underpinning recognition of revenue
IAS 18 outlines the recognition principles in three parts: 1. Sale of goods:Revenue is recognised when all the following conditions have been satisfied (2):

(a) The seller has transferred the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods to the buyer. (b) The seller does not retain control over the goods or managerial involvement with them to the degree usually associated with ownership. (c) The amount of revenue can be measured reliably. (d) It is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the seller (e)The costs incurred or to be incurred by the seller in respect of the transaction can be measured reliably.

What's the difference in DEPOSITS and Sales/Deliveres

There's a huge difference

The deposits are refundable and order NOT YET PLACED.

Only once given an invitation to PLACE AN ORDER are the cars paid for. The deposit reserved a spot in line, it did not commit either party to delivery nor accepting delivery.

But enjoy accounting googling

That's my point
Yes, your incorrect point.

From your post.

"The seller has transferred the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods to the buyer"

Tesla is the seller. They didnt transfer anything! Unless you are counting the right to place an order.

Not sure what the hell you are trying to say

you are arguing for the sake of arguing

why respond if you don't know what "i'm trying to say"

instead of asking for clarity, you go on without knowing if what you are saying is relevant

i'm out

peace Bro

best wishes......

Am I arguing?

Didnt you start this shit?

Didnt you allude to my lack of understanding?

All while being wrong.

Seems you confused sales, deposits, orders and deliveries. Then proceeded to provide examples that dont fit this situation... causing me not to know what you are trying to say.

Again enjoy

Tesla will be profitable with this quarter or next.

Please also explain what companies are expected to be profitable while ramping up?

They are building/expanding 3 giga factories that will more than quadruple production, and circumvent the 40% tariffs on American cars sold in China

no - Tesla will not be profitable for a long while.... What you are reading about is in terms of a profitable quarter where Tesla doesn't rely on loans to keep the lights on not the overall profitability of the company -if they can string together 4 to 8 consecutive quarters without operational loans they'll be on their way

Right now they rely on borrowed money every quarter to maintain operational budgets.... a healthy company borrows for capital budgets not operations. Incoming revenue streams need to at least cover existing overhead

ok - You misunderstand what I'm saying - I'm not saying Tesla needs to be profitable right now.
(new companies don't need to be profitable, but their business plan needs to have a clear road map to profitability)
I'm saying Tesla just like Uber and Spotify and others do not have a plan to overall profit - they selling investors on potential market share dominance and in Tesla's case maybe licensing of patents to other other industries and automakers

Tesla will break even or turn a profit this month.

They are not taking loans to 'keep the lights on' they are ramping and expanding.

Agian in will ask, what company is expected to be sustainably profitable while still ramping?

respectfully - you don't know what you are talking about - I was very clear in my last post: on how, based on the question you asked, you completely misunderstood what I'm telling you about Tesla's profitability

As for Tesla'a expansion: expansion and building out is part of a company's capital budget
There are many ways Tesla can secure financing and creatively defer debt for capital budgets
so Tesla building up has everything to do with Tesla's potential income and future market share and not its current debt

Profitable quarter doesn't equal over all profitability

Even if / when Tesla has a profitable quarter there is a simple reason why they are facing a real challenge to reach a profitable year or 2

They can't stabilize their operational costs if they are forced to keep increasing production

I didn’t expect Elon to settle with SEC so soon, I was hoping to grab some today.:(
The block is kinda hot now with Judge Nathan asking Musk and the SEC to "justify" the fraud settlement. No big deal if this was asked for a class action suit, but its unusual for a routine SEC enforcement action. I was *very* lucky to cancel my 289 fill or kill buy limit order when the market opened around 294 yesterday - the judge's ruling announcement caused an immediate stock drop to 278!

No matter how much good news will likely come from the next earnings report, keep in mind that the Justice Department still has an open criminal investigation, numerous shareholder lawsuits are pending, and Elon Musk still has a Twitter account. While I still think TSLA is a great longer term investment, I personally will take a day-trading break from it until some of the outside turmoil settles down.

I understand just fine.

You still seem to feel like you are speaking from a place absolute facts, when I've proven you wrong several times.

Tesla will break even or turn a profit this quater.... fact or fiction?

Tesla will not be sustainably profitable until ramp up is resolved, afterall they are essentially creating a new industry.

I dont know their plans nor roadmap they, chose not to share. However we do know what they spent, borrowed and earned so far.

You and I are saying the same thing nut your head is so far up your ass you dont see it.

UPDATE:
I went back long on TSLA when it touched 250 back on Oct 11 and the stock closed today at 288.5
3rd qtr earnings report came out after the bell - watch where it opens tomorrow! AT LEAST 320!
With 33M shares short and only 4.3M shares traded after hours, there should be an EPIC short squeeze
And that's even though the overall market dropped 600+ points today and will likely continue to fall
:money:
