Amazon has officially announced a microwave oven, the company’s first kitchen appliance product. The device will be sold under the AmazonBasics line, and it will cost $59.99 and ship later this year. Naturally, it will come with voice-activated presets, so you can inform the microwave how you’d like to cook something and for how long by pressing the built-in Alexa button.

The device is powered by Alexa Connect Kit, a low-cost Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi module that brings smart features to standard home appliances. In that sense, the product is effectively a demo for Connect Kit in the form of a real, Alexa-powered microwave you can buy. Amazon is even including a popcorn-ordering Dash button into the device.

that shit is for college kids, studio apts (LSN), for making popcorn, hot pockets and tostinos....

So when you stand in front of the microwave to put the food in, instead of simply entering in the "cooking" information. You just speak it??? Now anyone that owns any voice activated device, knows that just thinking of HOW to say something so that these devices can understand takes more time than just doing it sometimes. I'll say this isn't necessary, but hey what do I know I also said I would never need a tablet and I own like 6 of those bytches!

Your cell phone has voice command. You don't use it?
