Louisiana teacher's racist rant about Colin Kaepernick goes viral

Valerie Scogin isn’t the first teacher in America to have a racist response to Colin Kaepernick’s powerful Nike ad — and, given the current landscape, it’s unlikely she’ll be the last.

Last week, the internet was up in arms over the principal at J.H. McGaugh Elementary School in California, who posted a picture of a torn-up Nike shirt and referred to Kaepernick as an “anti-American thug.” But Scogin, a 33-year-old math teacher at Slidell High School in Louisiana, took the racist remarks a step further — invoking both slavery and animal comparisons. “They don’t have to live in that country, they could go back,” Scogin wrote in her since-deleted post, which was captured by The Root. “They could go back, but it was their own people selling them into slavery, and tearing them even worse in those countries of origin.”

After falsely representing slavery, Scogin went on to suggest black people who disagree with practices in America simply move. “Want a better neighborhood? Move. You don’t have to choose to live in those zip codes,” she wrote. “Want to not be stereotyped, tell people of that color to quit acting like animals and perpetuating that stereotype. Many are are average people; the few ruin it.” Scogin’s post ends by suggesting black people “quit voting for handouts” and “pay taxes.”

While Slidell High School did not respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment, a spokesperson from the school has confirmed to media that disciplinary action has been taken. “The posting was voluntarily removed,” spokeswoman Meredith Mendez told the New Orleans Advocate. “The appropriate disciplinary action has been taken. I can’t comment further.”

A Louisiana math teacher has been disciplined after she posted a racially charged post on Facebook shortly after Nike’s Colin Kaepernick ad. Valerie Scogin has been teaching at Slidell high school since 2008.

“They don’t have to live in that country. They could go back,” Scogin posted. “But it was their own people selling them into slavery to begin with and tearing them even worse in those countries of origin.”

She continued: “Want a better neighborhood? Move. You don’t have to choose to live in those zip codes. Want to not be stereotyped, tell people of that color to quit acting like animals and perpetuating the stereotype,” she wrote.

According to WWL TV, St. Tammany Parish Public School administrators said they took the “appropriate disciplinary actions,” even though Scogin was in class on Monday teaching students.

However, Scogin did apologize on Facebook for her racist post.

“Recently I posted a comment that may have been hurtful to some of you,” Scogin wrote. “In my reaction out of frustration at another Facebook post, I made some remarks that were against my better judgement [sic] and sensibilities. I now wish I hadn’t.”

Scogin added that: “the last thing I want to do is hurt anyone. I apologize for what I said and sincerely wish to avoid this in the future.”

I love to know how this was handled. I am also curious as to how many black children she teaches. If the dress code is liberal, I role up with all sorts of Nike shit. Or if I am a parent, roll up to those teacher parent meetings with a big ass Nike logo on my shirt. Fuck this racist bitch.

Slidell is pretty even populated if my memory serves me correct

For as much as we shame them; there is somebody in the dark recesses patting her on her ample back saying "Atta Girl", and that, ladies and gentlemen, is why they make these statements. Regardless of whatever internet justice we get, she'll be just fine. She probably has a GoFundMe worth a few hundred thousand right now.

Nope that was the bridge to cross over to the west bank where folks were getting shot at, them cacs in Jefferson Parish were with that fuckery. Slidell is a nice ride from New Orleans, cacs gonna CAC though anywhere.

Okay. Yeah it's Lousiana so I'm thinking she's safe. They agree with her ass

*Whoops. I guess I was wrong. :lol::roflmao::lol:

Fuck this racist pig.

But seriously, I appreciate all the racism that’s been exposed, but do idiots like this one and others realize that there’s no mandate to spew your racist bullshit on social media?

I hope she enjoys paying her bills with all those ‘likes’.

They love that go back to Africa comment.

Like it was our choice in the first place.
The internet and crowds gives them so much bravery. I saw a bumper sticker of this punk ass cac that said, "if i knew what i knew now i would have picked my own damn cotton". I chased his cowardly ass until he ran a red light to get away. I hope this fat disgusting cac life is destroyed.
