Should You Buy a Projector? - TV vs Projector

ya I’m on the 4k wave now...my stance is still the same tho...a tv will always show clearer than a projector even tho they offer the same resolution but the projector image is so huge it’s hard to spend too much time on the tv...every time I watch or play something on the tv...I immediately start thinking how great it’ll look if I watch it on the projector...I was watching the ozark on that shit and it looked amazing...I have an optoma uhd50...it’s more so a faux 4k projector...native 4k projectors are great for watching movies but I’ve heard they present a horrible lag when it comes to gaming...I was looking @ an 82” tv in store and it did nothing for me...samsung is supposed to be working on a 146” but that’s some next level shit

I just watched the vid...a year makes a huge difference in tech...4k projectors have come down vastly in price and the tech is there to accommodate movies/gaming...the most noted ones are the optoma uhd50/51/60 and the benq ht2550...they all are in the $1500 price range...the only thing I don’t like and I wish I had known this beforehand...even tho 4k projectors have 2 hdmi inputs...only one of them allows for 4k output...the other allows for 1080... @ the end of the day tho it’s like having you’re own mini theater...if you had to chose between watching something on a movie screen or on the tv...barring any trolling or some kind of eye/medical condition ppl are gonna choose the big screen most times

My coworker has a projector in his living room. I'd prefer a projector in a theater room or similar. Currently I'm looking at that 75" Samsung TV for my next one.

I recently(last 2 months) bought an Optoma UHD60 4k HDR Projector and a 55' Samsung Q6 QLED TV. The picture quality of the QLED is amazing, it's extremely bright and it also produces some really deep blacks. The projector's picture, although not as bright and vibrant as the Samsung QLED, is really excellent in its own right. I built a 105' wide screen and have that mounted in my living room. The reason I chose the Optoma UHD60 is (Among its competitors and Price range)it has the highest lumens, Is HDR10 compatible, Does not use "pixel shifting;" its has true native 4k HDR, It has 4k upscaling, Gaming mode, Pro-level calibration capability, and finally the price. I bought mine for $1750 along with a 4 year warranty ($120). Overall, for casual gaming, sports and 4k HDR movie watching on most evenings I have found myself using the projector. I have everything running through a Marantz SR5012 receiver which upscales content to 4k, so Football (Hulu Live/Xbox One S) on the 100 screen looks really good with no motion blur at all. The response time/refresh rates are relatively good too.

The Samsung Q6 QLED is the entry level model in Samsung's QLED series. In my opinion, its not as good as the OLED TV's in producing deep and true black levels, but QLED's BIG advantage over OLED is no screen burn in. If you're a gamer who plays games that have a HUD, Screen map, etc. The image can burn into the screen like old schools plasma's from the blackplanet.com days. The reason I really bought this was the price, I got it for $850 & no tax on base at Buckley AFB. My only regret is that I didn't say fuck it and get the the 65'(although it was $1699.99 AND out of stock). The picture on the Samsung Q6 makes my eyes water. The white levels are intensely bright and like I previously mentioned, the blacks are extremely deep, especially in HDR mode. This TV is my choice for fast motion gaming on the PS4 Pro. The fact that it has 5 ms response time!.......Holy shit I had to readjust to playing fast paced games. The TV literally makes me shake my head when I play 4k games, basically, its like playing on a 55 inch computer monitor. I know it cant compare to a PC's ability to produce high resolution graphics, but this TV and the PS4 Pro are as good as any mid-level PC rig I've ever seen. I play Destinty PvP/Crucible alot and truly feel this TV gives me an advantage. I would say it is the best I have ever used for gaming, hands down.

good shit man...I didn’t not know about OLEDs having screen burn in

Not just THE warranty... I believe Best Buy's is the only warranty that covers burn-in. I know for sure that LG doesn't
So lg sells oled TVs and one of the main problems is burn in but they don’t cover that ?

That’s like Microsoft not covering the Xbox 360 red ring of death back in the day, that would be unthinkable , nobody should be buying oled if they don’t cover that in the warranty

Lg should be like we are so confident in our TVs not getting burn in that we offer free 3 year burn in warranty

Technically burn-in / image retention is possible with any TV display technology including LCD/LED and I'm not aware of any manufacturers that cover it

My walls are beige and textured. I had to either buy a screen or build one.
If you want to take the route I did, you can just buy the cloth and then the 4" velvet tape to surround the screen. It probably cost me about $80. You can find the screens and tape on ebay or Amazon.

As for the whole projector or TV.

I had a projector, got damaged. Haven't replaced it cause my chairs got damaged now as well in the flood last year.

I got a 75" Samsung a little while ago, not for the same room. But I'm telling you even tho our projector wasn't 4k like the TV is, I would prefer my theater room watching to the TV. Not for the quality of the image, just for the size.

My screen picture size is 136". And the speakers in there with the sub, plus my seats had shakers. I miss it. Gonna be my project to restore it over the next few months.

watching ‘ozark’ right now...just took a quick pic...included the ceiling and the floor to give an idea of how large an image you can throw...keep in mind this was taken w/ an old ipad...it doesn’t do what I’m actually seeing justice...and I still haven’t captured the full width of it
