Movie Biz: AMC launches Stubs A-List subscription service to rival MoviePass

another big issue is the mysterious outages that they have been having right when big movies launch. the last one was ant man and the wasp. that is way more than coincidence.

It's probably because so many people are trying to buy tickets at once.

Depends on the house.....and the theater.

I hope the height of one's social life doesn't revolve around a movie theater. That would be pathetic, no?

You have IMAX and 3D in your house on a 5,000 foot screen?

It's not the same

Being around other people and laughing and feeling their same thoughts on a movie isn't the same. Anybody can sit up in their house and watch a movie. Just like people can watch sports on TV. It's not the same experience. That's why people still go to the movies or go see sports in despite of how big TV's are or streaming or dvd's.

horror movies and comedies are exponentially better with an invested audience

Lmao here goes the debate again home viewers vs theatre watchers...this was a multiple page thread argument 2 yrs ago.. Some people like the home theater experience better than the movie theatre experience and visa versa, deal with it.. For every movie experience you prop up you can find a home experience that you can also prop up... Saving time and money, being comfortable in your own place, eating whatever the fuck you want, watching the movie anytime you want, being able to pause it or rewind it, not having to deal with a knucklehead, crying kid, talkative ass person etc, getting slobbed off of fucking without hiding, etc

They can afford to give you the movie at reduced prices cause they figure over 2 to 3 hours, you are gonna get some concessions, especially if on a date or with family.
yeah didn't think about that.
popcorn meal be 20 plus,
don't order nachos w/ lol
you better be getting some ass after that movie

Then you missed out on the experience
So was I gonna get taken in the dark,or get to bust a shotgun?

Ya nigs really be trying to over hype situations to death

I saw Blair witch in the theatre , you want me to tell you about the horror I experience? It was called not getting my 90 minutes of time I wasted watching that shit and that 9 bucks that vanished into the movie cashier box

What I can tell you I experienced some head right after watching a quiet place right after when I had my young joint come through..tablet experience=great

I couldn't imagine seeing A Quiet Place at home. You miss the experience, and how the movie is supposed to be viewed.

I did at like 4am on my tablet...it was Decent

Then you missed out on the experience

quiet place is a perfect film that supports the move theatre experience

told family and friends to see it
ppl who saw in theatres loved it...ppl who saw at home said it is ok

what the home viewers missed was the shared experience of a theater. ppl sitting alone in dark, with few distractions letting the tension build. the collective gasps and held breathes...the home experience cant replace that...ppl were on edge with every random noise in the theater

i also don't do horror and blair witch was one of the last "horror" movies i have ever seen in a theater. which ever came last was the last one i saw. it was either blair witch or texas chainsaw massacre. horror is not my genre. not because its scary. but often because its ridiculous.

i wasn't scared either. it was just a really well done movie that had alot of elements that would be lost on a tablet.
to you..like I said everybody situation is diff

my favorite movie experience is when I seen the movie the rock at a sneak peak 2 days b4 it was released in all theatres.. That was 1996.. Can everybody say they best experience was seeing the rock nope not at all..everybody situation is diff.. A quiet place was a well done movie to you , to me it was ehh ok.. If I actually paid for that shit id been mad... I saw the rock for free if I had to pay for it , it would've been worth every cent

On edge in the theatre yeah I heard that horseshit b4.. 2 movies come to mind Blair witch and the ring.. Both of those movies were both shitfest.. In fact let me throw in another wack ass movie pitch black... 3 movie experience that were completely shit that supposedly were terrifying and had people on edge

Antman and the Wasp was the first time in ages, I tried to go to a opening night movie. That shit would not work. I had to pay out of pocket that night. I felt like Earn trying to use a 100 bill that night.

i actually paid out of pocket for a later show. then movie pass came back on line after 9pm and i got a refund and used moviepass.

I grew up on horror..Jason is my fave killer...I be 5 yrs old cheering on Jason go on killing sprees.. Jason lives is my fave Fri the 13th and dream master is my fave Krueger flick...all these modern flicks suck as far as horror genre.. Only thing worth mentioning prob is the first saw and that was more less a thriller

so you've never seen a movie in a theater and thought the movie benefited from the shared experience (black panther, get out, any flick)

you've never watched a comedy by yourself vs with a group of friends and had different experience?

everyone experiences art/entertainment differently. personally I have found the shared to be valuable

*edit*
after re-reading your response maybe suspense based horror isn't your cup of tea

Only shared experience was the rock

other shared experience pretty much was me or my boys acting an ass... This is coming from a person who only paid for 5 movies for the first 2+ decades of his life cause I had mad connects to see them for free and at 1 time for several yrs would see at least 1 movie for free every week... Pretty much around 2001 I noticed how movies altogether started becoming shitty..in fact I literally remember saying damn I feel sorry for people that actually pay for this shit as I watched it for free..it so many movies that have come out since that have zero replay value..most are 1 and dones and are really forgettable...I stayed in the theatre every week at 1 point and can literally say that "experience" shit is/ would be overrated for these modern day movies

the 'issue' is resolved but I think I am bout done and will be making the jump to Alist this weekend

it seems like every other weekend when a blockbuster bout to drop moviepass either has technical difficulties or they are changing terms of their service

now all of sudden Mission Impossible isnt available for AMC theatres near me?
wtf.

what's Alist?

Sinemia has always been better for me $10 a month, 2 movie tickets to watch any type of movie on any day in any theater. I've done 4DX, Imax, etc.. And I only go to the movies about 2 times a month anyway, if that. They have 3 tickets a month and twin ticket packages for a few more bucks. Feel free to sign up with my link, if you're interested, we both get $5 if you do! https://www.sinemia.com/R/K2VJ3X

Sinemia isn't better to me, because Movie Pass gave you the option of seeing 30/31 movies versus 2 or 3. I'd rather see 7-15 than 2 IMAX.

what's Alist?

AMC has A List that they started in response to Movie Pass

It's $19.99 a month for up to 3 movies a week. Includes 3D, Dolby, IMAX.

If you have a nice AMC it's a good deal, because you can pre order

fuck it
mission impossible was blacked out for no reason

registered for mama Mia in movie pass, bought mission possible ticket and took pic of mission impossible

if they cancel my account its whatever
I got more than my money's worth and will jump to a list

I really do appreciate moviepass for changing the game but their business model was horribly flawed. only way they could make money is if ppl didnt use their product. the exact opposite happened

MoviePass Bears Licking Their Chops; Selloff Of Parent Stock Continues After Latest Resuscitation...

The No. 1 exhibitor in the world announced today that in the last five weeks since its launch, their new AMC Stubs A-List frequent moviegoer program has enrolled more than 175K fully-paid members. This news comes after a day when MoviePass saw another major chain outage on Monday, followed by evening news breaking that the all-you-can-see $9.99/a month service would no longer cover big studio movies. On social media, MoviePass subscribers have turned, either mourning the service’s break-down or making fun of the company’s financial woes. More importantly, some MoviePass subscribers on Twitter are saying that they’re changing over to AMC’s A-List because they’ve had it with the app outages and ticket price surges (which in certain cases can be more than what the cinema is charging).

That initial surge in membership is well ahead of the chain’s expectations. At the time of launch on June 26, 2018, AMC expected to hit 500K members by the end of June 2019, and 1 million members two years from launch, at the end of June 2020.

A-List is a new premium VIP tier of the AMC Stubs loyalty program. Overall, with A-List, the AMC Stubs counts 15.8 million U.S. households as members.

From Adam Aron, AMC CEO and President:
“We are nothing less than ecstatic about the early consumer response to AMC Stubs A-List, which encourages moviegoers to come to the theatre more often, bringing their family and friends with them. With more than 175,000 members enrolled in just five weeks, the growth of AMC Stubs A-List has far exceeded our projections. We also find it reassuring that we consciously designed AMC Stubs A-List to be a profitable program with a price point that is loaded with consumer value while also being sustainable for us and for our guests.”

Aron added, “Because AMC Stubs A-List benefits our guests, our valued industry and studio partners, and our shareholders, we expect A-List will endure over the long-haul. Accordingly, we are excited to continue welcoming current and new AMC guests to enjoy AMC Stubs A-List, which offers the very best of AMC. AListers get a choice of every movie including the newest blockbusters, in every format including IMAX, Dolby Cinema and RealD 3D, at every U.S. AMC location, bookable online and in advance, with no annoying or
unreasonable surge/peak pricing, up to three times per week, all for just $19.95 per month (plus tax).”

canceled my moviepass subscription today
getting Alist this weekend

its was fun while it lasted

About to do the same fam, this shit is ridiculous

So I won't be able to see Mission Impossible or The Meg for a couple of weeks? And are they still going to keep charging peak pricing?

And raising it to $15

1,000+ theaters, that ain't shit. The entire top ten is over 1,000
