Burbank is alright. Take a look at Santa Monica, Marina Del Ray, Manhattan Beach, or any place near the beach. Basically everything is within an hours drive. Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm to the southeast. Six Flags Magic Mountain is to the north. Tourist always want to do Hollywood and Vine, Venice Beach and the like. I suggest staying away from the tourist traps. There are some wonderful museums in Exposition Park. Take a drive Northwest to a little town called Solvang or north along the coast to Cambria. Both towns are family oriented with nightlife for adults. Checkout UCLA, USC, Pepperdine, and other universities. Have fun.
If you want to go to a museum there is a great African American museum in Watts. It’s at a place called the Center. The entire family will enjoy this. As far as restaurants go you have over a thousand to choose from. If you like food from different cultures make sure to go to that particular area. For example, if you like Ethiopian go to Little Ethiopia. If you want Cuban, go to Little Cuba, Korean - Koreatown, etc...
What’s your “accommodations” budget like? You should stay on the west side. Or, you could stay downtown. You could stay in the SouthBay area. You could stay at the Ritz-Carlton or something else. There are plenty of hotels for all budgets.Where city should I stay in to be in the middle of it all?

Mind your "colors" when driving throughout the surrounding areas
Hollywood Blvd is cool. See the walk of Fame. Take pics with people dressed up as bumble bee and papa Smurf
Univeral Studios is fun. Disneyland is far away, relatively speaking
Santa Monica is a bit away but worth it, as well as Venice Beach
wait you taking kids?Gonna have to look at the google maps..brah
