Basically. And it'll probably hit the key demographics they want, so that's all they'll care about.
I've come to grips with the fact that the original, while enjoyable, was not gold standard. But it did storytelling in an era where a lot of cartoons didn't, and I respected the hell out of not being treated like a complete idiot as a kid.
I didn't make it all the way through the reboot, but I can see why it didn't pan out. It took the material completely seriously and tried to respect the property. Unfortunately, you don't sell toys that way, so.....
At the end of the day, I can't complain because I am a grown ass man who sometimes watches animated stuff just because. I'm not in anyone's key demographic. If I'm hard up for solid animated fare, I just head back to anime (which rarely disappoints in that department).
But still, this sits a little badly with me for some reason.
