Officials are investigating after a hate-filled rant on the Long Island Rail Road was caught on camera.

Passengers say a man spewed hate for a full 10 minutes, hurling a combo of sexist and racist slurs directed at a fellow rider who was an African-American woman.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. on April 19 on the train from Jamaica to Valley Stream.

"There were people on the train that did try and get him to stop, and he just kept going and going and at one point he did get up and got in one of the girls' face," the passenger who caught the tirade on camera said Thursday.

She asked not to be identified but said his barrage of insults seemed to have no limit.

Some passengers can be seen leaving the car while others tried to intervene.

"Apparently she was being too loud, I don't know, I personally didn't hear her," the passenger said. "He started calling her a b**** and then another young woman stuck up for her, and was like 'you don't speak to people like that' and then it kinda just escalated into being more racist."

Since the passenger who posted the video tagged the LIRR, it is considered a direct report to the agency.

"This language is offensive, completely inappropriate, and has no place in our society, let alone on the Long Island Rail Road. We are actively investigating this report," a LIRR spokesperson said.

A Long Island Rail Road commuter who was targeted in a racist rant aboard the train says she plans to press charges against her tormenter.

"It's a hate crime," Soraya Orelien, 25, told the Daily News Friday.

"He needs to pay for what he's done to me...This cannot continue to happen. It's 2018."

Orelien spoke out a day after cellphone footage of the man's foul mouth onslaught burned up social media.

The black Baruch College senior was riding the train on April 19 when the white man started lobbing vile verbal rockets at her because he thought she was talking too loudly into her phone.

"You're a loudmouth monkey motherf----r," spewed the man who had sat down directly in front of Orelien.

"I can't listen to your black ass no more."

Several sources identified the hate-filled hothead as Edward Ruggiero, a Manhattan stagehand who lives in Long Beach, L.I.

Reached outside his home, Ruggiero denied that he was the man in the video despite looking and sounding exactly like him.

"It ain't me," Ruggiero said.

"I've seen the video, yeah. A hundred guys at work have showed it to me, saying 'Oh my god! It looks like you!"

Orelien had no doubt Ruggiero was her harasser after seeing a photo taken by a Daily News photographer outside his house.

"That's definitely him," she said.

"Of course he's denying it. He's embarrassed by it. The whole world saw your face. You cannot hide it."

The incident took place about 9:45 p.m. as the train rumbled toward Jamaica en route to Long Beach.

Amid his diabolical diatribe, the racist rider got in Orelien's face.

"He got up and turned and said, 'I'm gonna slap the s--t out of you,'" the victim recalled.

Orelien said she tried to keep her composure as the man spouted off. He also made monkey noises as he harassed her in a verbal assault that kept up for several minutes.

"It was a disturbing and disgusting act," said Orelien who majors in human resource management.

"I'm glad the video is out and people can see that this is unacceptable."

The cellphone footage captured the man getting into it with another black rider after she told him to "shut the f--k up."

"Oh, you loudmouth b---h," the man shot back.

"Like your mother," she said.

The man erupted in obscenities and racial taunts yet again.

"Do you know who your mother is?" the man shouted. "You don't know who your mother is because you're a f--king monkey."

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said it's investigating the incident.

James Claffey, Jr., president of the powerful stagehands union, said the member outed to The News has denied being the man in the video.

"Local 1 IATSE needs to do further investigation," Claffey said.

"At the end of the day, the behavior in that video was disgraceful and not a reflection of the honor and integrity of our members."

NEW YORK — The woman targeted in a racist-filled rant on the Long Island Rail Road spoke out to PIX11 News Friday.

“I want people to know that this still happens!” Soraya Orelien said.

It all started on April 19 aboard the LIRR train during Orelien's daily commute. The woman, who is black, said a white man unleashed a toxic, racist rant against her.

“He got in my face, and the other woman’s face and said oooh ooh aaa aaah, literally," Orelien said. "He told me to get off a Jamaica Avenue where all the ghetto people live."

The passenger allegedly took issue with the 25-year-old Baruch College senior being on her cell phone during her commute that originated at Penn Station. So he confronted her.

Passengers captured the whole thing on cell phone video.

“I felt disgusted, and I felt belittled,"Orelien said. "I didn’t do anything to this man. He called me a monkey, he said I didn’t know my mom or my dad.”

The man has already been identified as a stagehand and member of Local 1 IATSE. He has also reportedly denied that it’s him in the video.

The union’s president James J. Claffey Jr. condemned the racist rant – while noting the man’s reported denial.

Claffey has yet to respond to PIX11’s request for comment.

“I thank god for social media, because if it wasn’t for social media, nobody would have known what happened on that train that night,” Orelien said.

An LIRR spokesman told PIX11:

“This language is offensive, completely inappropriate, and has no place in our society, let alone on the Long Island Rail Road. The MTA Police are actively investigating this report…. Anyone who sees a situation like this unfolding should notify a conductor immediately. This absolutely falls under the mantra of: if you see something, say something.”

After reflecting on the earful she received on the train, Orelien has this to say:

“I’m proud to be a strong black woman in this day and age, and no one can talk to me like that."

The LIRR rider caught on camera spewing a bigoted rant was charged with a hate crime that could land him behind bars, officials said Wednesday.

The Queens DA charged 58-year-old Long Beach resident Edward Ruggiero with third-degree menacing as a hate crime and second-degree aggravated harassment – crimes punishable by up to a year in jail and $1,000 fine.

“The bigotry and hatred that the defendant is accused of manifesting and acting upon have no place in a civilized society – especially in Queens County, the most culturally diverse county in the nation,” Queens DA Richard Brown said in a statement.

“No one should be subjected to the vile words and intimidating actions the defendant is accused of tormenting the victim with. Crimes of hate will never be tolerated here and when they do, regrettably occur, those responsible will be brought to justice.”

Ruggiero was allegedly caught on camera on April 19 – at some point between 9:53 p.m. and 10:25 p.m. – going off on fellow rider Soraya Orelien, an African American woman who was headed home to Lynbrook after a long day at her Manhattan college.

The angry man claimed he was upset that Orelian, 25, was talking too loudly. When another young black woman came to Orelien’s defense, the man launched into a vile, racist rant that was recorded.

“Shut the f–k up, you f–king loudmouthed monkey motherf–ker,” the man screamed.

“I can’t listen to your f–king black ass no more. ..You f–king loudmouthed bitch. ..At least I got a f–king mother. Do you know who your mother is? You don’t know who your mother or your father is because you’re a f–king monkey, that’s why.”

Ruggiero was being held pending arraignment in Queens Criminal Court, the DA said.

NEW YORK (WABC) --
The man at the center of a hate-filled rant on the Long Island Rail Road has been charged with a hate crime after the tirade went viral earlier this month.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced Wednesday that 58-year-old Edward Ruggiero of Long Beach has been charged with menacing as a hate crime.

"The bigotry and hatred that the defendant is accused of manifesting and acting upon have no place in a civilized society -- especially in Queens County, the most culturally diverse county in the nation. No one should be subjected to the vile words and intimidating actions the defendant is accused of tormenting the victim with," Brown said in a statement. "Crimes of hate will never be tolerated here and when they do, regrettably occur, those responsible will be brought to justice."

The incident happened around 10 p.m. on April 19 on the train from Jamaica to Valley Stream. Passengers say Ruggiero spewed hate for a full 10 minutes, hurling a combo of sexist and racist slurs directed at a fellow rider who was an African-American woman.

Didn't this dude swear up and down it wasn't him? Guess the DA made a mistake.

Oh, and for those not familiar with the history of LI, robert moses actually designed the overpasses low and skinny so buses (read: carrying Blacks) couldn't get out to the beaches.
LI has some of the most racist and corrupt cops in the country. And that's saying something.
