Atlanta actor/rapper T.I. (currently appearing in the locally filmed indie “Krystal”) is calling for a boycott of Starbucks following the controversial arrests of two black men widely disparaged as racist.

On the other hand, comic actor Kevin Hart, a Philadelphia native who has filmed numerous films in Atlanta (including the upcoming comedy “Night School”) says the matter boils down to bad management at an individual location.

“This is not a boycott Starbucks situation,” he said in a social media post.

T.I., who led protests at a Lenox Road Houston’s (now closed) after a patron said she felt discriminated against and took part in a 2016 demonstration against police brutality that shut down the highway, as shown below, has posted several messages urging people to dump Starbucks.

“My point exactly!!!” he posted with a clip from “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” in which Frances McDormand’s character assigns culpability to all members of unlawful groups. “This goes to the Policemen,Priests,Preachers,
Politicians, @starbucks , @hm ,and ANYONE ELSE WHO FEELS THEY CAN DISREGARD,DISRESPECT, or MISTREAT MINORITIES!!! We have THE GREATEST BUYING POWER WITH THE LEAST AMOUNT OF CONSIDERATION!!! Only one way to MAKE THEM RESPECT US!!! They hold US TO THIS STANDARD… why shouldn’t WE HOLD THEM TO IT?”

Hart has received both support and scorn for his take on things:

Starbucks president and CEO Kevin Johnson appeared on “Good Morning America” Monday morning to repeat his apology and his desire to meet with the two men who arrested. Johnson called what happened reprehensible and wrong and said more training to address” unconscious bias” is needed.

“It’s easy for me to point blame to one person in this incident,” he said in response to host Robin Roberts’ question asking if the employees involved would face discipline. “My responsibility is to look more broadly, just to ensure this never happens again. I’ve been very focused on understanding what guidelines and what training ever let this happen. What happened was wrong, and we will fix it.”

So from a purely technical standpoint, I have questions on the officer’s action. A criminal trespass warning has to be issued and the person has to refuse to leave AFTER receiving the warning. That’s is generally the officer’s duty (to give the warning). It’s possible that the gentleman refused to leave, but I seriously doubt that.

I read one report (it might have been posted in this thread) where the police asked them to leave and they asked why they were being asked to leave and that's when they were arrested. The police fucked up regardless of whether they asked them to leave or not though.

You know?

I would NOT be SURPRISED if it was...

@raze
@largebillsonlyplease
@ansatsusha_gouki
@fonzerrillii

could Marvel / Disney REALLY remove the Starbucks reference due to recent events???

I don’t know if I can lay blame to all Starbucks... I’ve seen the Starbucks in Antioch let in homeless black people and give them coffee in the winter...

But I’ll say that this is more of an issue with the police force...

Police officers make judgment calls ... there was nothing about that situation that should have resulted in the arrest of those men. Starbucks is a public establishment... that is wildly known to be where folks come in and chill all fucking day.

The smartest thing that that did was nothing... the police commissioner can say all he wants about reviewing the scene... but there was no need for that many officers for that type of call.

Side note... I go to Starbucks... all the time and I fucking pray that something like this happened to me. I fucking pray.... I’d be on video glum as a mutherfucker but inside... my ass would be doing somersaults. This shit is a fucking easy payday. I’d sue the city and Starbucks... both would end up settling for over a million.

We need to be happy for these dudes... they don’t know this yet but they are going to be rich. Hopefully they got the right team around them.

I'm 20, and 5' 11 3/4" tall. I have long brown hair with pretty blue eyes. I have a shopping addiction...you can never have too many clothes. I'm an introvert that tends to go into an extrovert when I want to. I am constantly making new friends and new enemies. If you see me and say hi, I will pretend I know you even though I probably don't have the slightest idea who you are. My life is crazy, but if it wasn't I would become bored. I love people and I'm sure I'd die from boredom if everyone suddenly went away. I'm constantly changing, but it's all good because that is what makes me me. :D

She's four years younger than me, and looks 20 years older.

I just heard the news anchor on CBS evening news lead into the story by saying "Two Men were arrested at a Starbucks for not buying anything and refusing to leave". His wording pissed me off.

I normally don't watch this channel but I just walked in the door and immediately turned the television on.

White folks all of a sudden acting like they don't go to starbucks and use the free internet all day without buying anything.

I’ve read numerous articles on this story and I’m amazed (but not shocked) that the two gentlemen’s names haven’t mentioned once. And I doubt anyone here could name them without googling. They’re just known as the “two black real estate agents”. Food for tonight there.

This is squarely on the shoulders of Starbucks. At least in Texas, if a manager ask you to leave the premises, and you remain, it is criminal trespassing. However, they can't ask one to leave for discriminatory reasons. When she said there was a policy that only customers could use the bathroom and sit in the store without ordering, the cops had no option but to do their job. We can't on one hand expect the cops not to be the judge and jury in some cases (executing unarmed Black men on the street) and complain that they were not the judge and jury in this case.

The two men did the right thing by refusing to leave and making the cops arrest them because it set the stage to hold Starbucks accountable. It is obvious that they were asked to leave because they were Black and everyone in the world knows, including any jury members, that people sit up in Starbucks all day long not ordering a damn thing.

those brothers are fucking set!

On the real I’m going to start sitting in Starbucks in my workout gear... and surf on my phone...

I desperately need this shit to happen to me ... a brothas got bills to pay. I’d sue and my ass would be on every media outlet decked out in full lawyer gear...... with one of the attorneys from my firm representing me... so I can get double the exposure.

Every article would be “black lawyer this...” Black Lawyer that”.... Attorney ... this...

Man I’d build me... a pool in the backyard just for my Scrooge McDuck Money swim.
