Canelo Alvarez announced Tuesday he has withdrawn from his scheduled rematch with unified middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin, which was to headline a major HBO PPV event on May 5 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has filed a complaint against Alvarez following two positive tests for the banned performance-enhancing drug clenbuterol in random urine tests conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.

A hearing on the matter is expected to take place on April 18, as part of the commission's regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

Because clenbuterol is classified as a prohibited anabolic agent, Alvarez faces a minimum one-year suspension for a first-time offense based on the commission's doping rules and regulations, which were overhauled in September 2016. The commission could suspend him for even longer but, based on its regulations it could also cut any suspension it issues by 50 percent -- six months -- if he cooperates with the commission.

Any suspension is retroactive to the date of the first positive test, which means if Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs), 27, of Mexico, gets a one-year suspension but cooperates with the commission and has it cut to six months, he would be eligible to box again after Aug. 17. That means the rematch of his controversial draw last September with Golovkin -- who most thought won -- could be rescheduled for the Mexican Independence Day weekend in mid-September.

Alvarez claims the reason for his positive test results are due to his eating contaminated beef in Mexico, where that has been an ongoing problem for athletes. Farmers in Mexico often include clenbuterol, which is prohibited for farming use in the United States, in cattle feed because it helps reduce fat and increase lean muscle mass.

He dont want to get his ass kicked again.... Fool got caught cheating trying to get an advantage and dont want to fight GGG without steroids... :smh:

Was really looking forward to the rematch. Gonna be interesting to hear First Takes reaction in the morning. The only issue is that GGG is no young buck so every month counts with him now. Same with the Floyd / Manny fight. Floyd waited for him to age before he finally took the fight.

His bitch ass didnt want nan!

Alvarez knows he don't want them problems again...
i wouldn't doubt if he had another positive test in the summer.

He really didn’t want those problems, that’s why he needed the juice.

I was looking forward to the fight too, Canelo wasn’t :smh:

The fight will still happen we'll just have to wait a few more months and ultimately it will (financially) work in Golovkins favor since Canelo and Golden Boy will now need this fight more than Golovkin does and therefore will be at a disadvantage when they're negotiating purses.

If Billy Joe Saunders wasn't injured he would've been the perfect "replacement" lol

You do realize Floyd is older than Manny right?

Yeah fam but the styles that they have are completely different. Manny style was built on speed, awkward angles and power. That ish diminished over the years they were waiting to fight. With Floyd style, he could fight until he 50. Lol. He's the greatest technical and defensive fighter maybe ever. He just make you miss, hit you with a counter and make you look stupid.

Mannys power didn't really exist at 147 though so Floyd didn't have to wait for Mannys power to diminish. As far as his speed, him and Floyd had comparable hand speed.

In fact he hasn't had a straight up KO since fighting Ricky Hatton at 140 pounds in 2009.

GGG was beating his roided ass. Imagine what he’d do to him without the juice. I should’ve known Canelo was on that shit the way he was beating his opponents.

He'll get the six months and they'll be fighting in September.

However if Golovkin and his people are smart they'll use this to their advantage when negotiating and make Canelo and Golden Boy take way less for the fight since they have all the leverage.

Like I said before. If GGG was smart he becomes undisputed champ and breaks B-hops title defense record before he gets too old.

But according to judge Adelaide Byrd, canelo won. She was also the judge in the ggg fight and of corse had canelo winning again. How in the fuck is this bitch still allowed to be a judge?
Because her husband is the referee :dunno:
