A Black Panther theme park ride is in the works, Bob Iger, chief executive of the Walt Disney Co. hinted on Monday.

Iger mentioned the news to a room full of Wall Street analysts while speaking at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in New York.

“No, we haven’t had a chance to build a ride,” he said. “Though I’m sure there are people who are working on it.”

Marvel Studio’s Black Panther continues to dominate box offices since its release, becoming the studio’s third-highest grossing release of all-time domestically, behind The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. It is no surprise that the multinational conglomerate is trying to cash in on the hype.

He called the film “an important moment in culture” and noted that fans line up for about an hour at Disneyland, just to meet the Black Panther character.

“I pretty much guarantee that this coming Halloween and even Christmas, you know you’ll be seeing a lot of Black Panther merchandise,” Iger said.

He also said Black Panther will become Disney’s 12th billion-dollar franchise.

Iger also revealed that he expects his company to get regulatory approval of its $52.4 billion acquisition of most of the assets of 21st Century Fox and that his company will use some of Fox’s content for the launch of a Netflix-like streaming service, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

When Disney’s Over The Top (OTT) service launches next month, it will have less content than Netflix but Iger said it will have more branded content from Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar. The Avengers movie, Toy Story 4, the next Frozen, Aladdin, and Dumbo are among the titles that will exclusively stream on the service. It will also have 5,000 episodes of Disney-branded TV, library movies and as many as five original shows and five original movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The company is also launching a similar service for ESPN that will feature narrow offerings so consumers can purchase passes to every game played by a certain team, every game in a sport or every game in a particular season.

"We haven't had a chance to build a ride," Bob Iger told an exec conference. "Though I'm sure there are people who are working on it."
Black Panther is "an important moment in culture," Disney CEO Bob Iger told Wall Street analysts on Monday. He even suggested there could be a ride based on the movie some day.

Iger said at an investor conference that there's a one-hour line to meet the Black Panther walkaround character at Disneyland. "No ride?" he was asked.

"No. We haven't had a chance to build a ride," the exec said with a chuckle. "Though I'm sure there are people who are working on it."

Iger said Disney has 11 billion-dollar franchises, so many that "we're competing with ourselves," and Black Panther should make the 12th. "I pretty much guarantee that this coming Halloween and even Christmas, you know you'll be seeing a lot of Black Panther merchandise."

The CEO, speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, said he's confident Disney will get regulatory approval for its $52.4 billion acquisition of most of the assets of 21st Century Fox, and he will then use some of Fox's content for the launch of Disney's Netflix-like streaming service. The National Geographic channel would fit nicely, for example.

Iger said Disney's OTT offering will have less volume than Netflix but more branded product, including Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar. And he said that if more Americans turn to the skinny bundle, it's "a good thing" for Disney because they will have more money to spend on both the Disney service and the ESPN service that could launch in about a month.

When the Disney OTT product launches late next year, it will feature an Avengers movie, Toy Story 4, the next Frozen, Aladdin and Dumbo exclusively in the pay window. It will also have 5,000 episodes of Disney-branded TV, library movies and as many as five original shows and five original movies.

As for ESPN's upcoming service, the exec said that eventually it will feature narrowed offerings, so a consumer, for example, could buy every game played by a certain team, every game in a sport or every game in a particular season.

Iger said Disney needs to "thrive in a fully disrupted world" by participating "in the very business that is doing the disruption."

One last thing.

Have Killmonger show up during challenge day and berate T Chala for having a show in front of a bunch of colonizers. They fight from there.

If you can’t get enough of Marvel and you’ve always dreamed of living the superhero experience yourself, you’ll soon have the chance at three Disney theme parks.

On Tuesday, Disney announced that Marvel superhero-themed lands will be coming to Disney California Adventure, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disney in 2020. The lands are being developed in partnership with Marvel Studios and Marvel Themed Entertainment.

At Disney California Adventure, the new Marvel land will open in 2020, building around the already existing Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT, which opened in 2017 to replace the Hollywood Tower of Terror attraction. The land will replace what is currently “a bug’s land” — “It’s Tough to Be a Bug” closed on March 19 and the remainder of the land will close late this summer to allow for construction to begin. Disney describes the land as “a completely immersive Super Hero universe.”

At Disneyland Paris, a Marvel-themed area will be added to Walt Disney Studios Park and will include an attraction where riders will team up with Iron Man and the Avengers. This summer Disneyland Paris is hosting the Marvel Summer of Super Heroes, a new live show featuring superheroes, special effects, and projections.

Hong Kong Disneyland has already started its Marvel-themed expansion plans, which will include a new attraction where riders can team with Ant-Man and The Wasp. This will join the Iron Man Experience, which already opened in 2017.
