Cost of living in Toronto... How much does it cost to live in your city?

The post is no longer available. To my knowledge and experience Toronto got Mafia type taxes. If you're not making more than $150,000 a year and single don't do it. I was paying $7 for a pack of smokes and $26 for a case of Labatts in 1988 and the taxes weren't even as high then.

Don’t do it. The cost of housing in Toronto is crazy AF right now.

The average cost for a house in Toronto starts at 1.5 million - $500k spanning out from downtown Toronto towards the burbs

That’s for an average looking semi-detach.

My mother lives in a house in Scarborough. It’s worth $900k - 1 million.

She bought it in the seventies for $70k.

In Durham, a suburban region east of Toronto, which includes from west to east Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, and Oshawa the prices range from $400k - $1 million+

In Durham, The prices get cheaper the further east you go away from Toronto.

In Markham aka China Town, another surban region north of Toronto, the prices go from 800k +. The cost getting lower the further north you go away from Toronto.

Its an international city . Plenty of people want to live there. Cost of living wise its about the same here. Living in an major city cost.

The only places in the States fucking with Toronto on housing costs are San Fransisco and New York.

much more bang for your buck in toronto tho, sure the taxes are no joke.. but with health care including dental and education....

the bang for you buck is there..

new york and san fran is cool if you a single dude making at least a hundred geez a year...and have no debt..

but for raising a family you cant beat the tdot... dont even compare college expenses...

What if you brought a half acre in unincorporated Toronto metro area and built a shipping container house on it? Would it be a less expensive and affordable option?

Something like these?

I have two homes in Toronto. 1 downtown 1 in the suburbs. They are currently being rented out while I'm not there currently. I bought them both in 2007. The downtown condo cost me $1.2M. The suburd home cost me $659K. They both now have went up in value. The condo now is worth $2M. The suburb home is worth $890K.

but them condos lakeside in toronto is dope... when I was going out there, there was always some new shit poppin up...

toronto reminds me a lot of new york, just not as intense but a whole lot cleaner...

40k in Houston is enough

Don’t buy a house over 100k(plenty of nice homes under 100k)

Don’t rent some spot that cost too much

Buy a cheap car

Try to live close to you job.

Houston is a big city bargain:yes:. I like Houston a lot. The only downside is it is in hurricane alley. Beware though Houstonians in ten years that city might become expensive to live in as well.

you ever thought about gettin a new place and renting that out...

Many times, its something i plan on looking into.

since this place has lots of equity ive also looked into the idea of buying another and renting one out...

we'll see how it goes.

yea seems like everyone I know that paid off their initial real estate property, get into the renting game..

and everyone of them are doing well and wonder why most people dont do it..

folks cakin lovely off of airbnb.. just renting apts for short term stays..

especially if you live in a city like toronto which gets millions of vistors a year...

in nyc its illegal to rent your shit for under thirty days...

nyc hotel industry put a stop to that shit..

I was just out there and LOVED it, except it was DUMB COLD. They had a deep freeze I came back to the states sick as hell.

I went out and had a ball it gave me a NY feel. I checked out some investment properties in Blue Mountain but money just not like that yet.

The homie @West Endian got all the info you need about the Dot

Toronto is really dope except for the cold it's like a clean ass NY. I like the Caribbean and African communities out there met some really dope sistas there too.

its funny hearing new yorkers talk about toronto weather, its actually pretty much the same...

buffalo is a whole new ball game tho....

True I guess it's the thought of replacing one cold place with another lol. Toronto is dope though.

I know being a new yorker I used to think the same thing,

and everytime I went up there, they had the same weather we were having...

it would snow there and the next day, we had the same amount of snow and temp..

but buffalo would get slammed with snow and wind.. the crazy shit is toronto is further up and they dont get the type of snow buffalo ny be gettin...

now if you go way out into canada like edmonton thats a different story...

The facts
The Bank of Canada has recently raised interest rates.
Economic indicators are good
Canada tops G7 in latest IMF estimate for 2017 economic growth, No. 2 in 2018
Canada’s unemployment rate falls to lowest rate in over 40 years
Ontario 5.5
British Columbia 4.6
Quebec 4.9
Unemployment rate in Ontario drops to lowest in 16 years,
"Statistics Canada says Ontario has added 96,800 full-time jobs in the past year, while the number of part-time jobs has actually decreased by 10,200."

My predictions
Housing market is expecting to cool down in 2018
inflation will be up
tech industry will become the new engine especially in the Toronto/waterloo ecosystem
less business with the US (NAFTA???)
more business with Asia (TPP)
more Business with European Union ( CETA)

My advices
Before coming to Toronto Invest in Education , try to be familiar with data science, Artificial Intelligence ,
if you have money , invest in Startups,
Learn basics of Mandarin, learn basics of French
don't buy , rent
Move to scarborough not Toronto itself

See what U failed to understand people want to be there. If a home is a hunnid plus years and still standing its foundation is strong and it has character via the beams and crown molding. Its not like in ohio its plenty to do in Toronto. Got a homie in Moreland Hills, ohio its nothing there.
