they kinda sorta explained this in the comics.

the current series is directly after ep3

Real talk cuz...

Temuera Morrison Wants to Play Captain Rex in Live-Action

Captain-Rex-Star-Wars-the-Clone-Wars.jpg

Jango Fett actor Temuera Morrison wants to play the animated character Captain Rex in a live-action Star Wars film. The New Zealander is no stranger to the galaxy far, far away as he played Jango Fett – the image on which the clone army was based and, more importantly, the father of everybody’s favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett (whom he re-recorded lines for in the 2004 DVD re-releases of the original Star Wars trilogy) – in the prequel trilogy. Since then, he has also partaken in several other properties from the famed franchise as a voice actor, bringing to life some of the video game characters like Boss in Star Wars: Republic Commando, all the troopers in Star Wars: Battlefront and then voiced Boba Fett again in DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront released in 2015.

First appearing in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and currently in Star Wars Rebels, Captain Rex is a staple of any Star Wars animated TV series set in the prequel era. Understandably so given that he is a clone trooper who eventually turned against the evil Galactic Empire when Order 66 was executed. Now, in the ongoing Rebels storyline, he is a key extension of the Ghost Crew and a true asset to the budding Rebellion, who have helped pave the way to end the ruthless rule of those he was supposed to serve.

Sitting down with the official website of Star Wars, Morrison reminisced on his short but memorable stint in the live-action films both via traditionally playing Jango and voicing him, Boba and some of the troopers. However, he admits that he wants to return to the lore and he believes taking the role of Captain Rex in a movie is the most plausible way to go:

They’re all in my Jango Fett line – I have clones lining up. Then, of course, there’s Captain Rex, who’s an iconic character. I’ve also voiced various games. What’ll make me really happy is if I get the phone call asking me to play another character – an older Captain Rex or something. I want to pop in on one of these new ones, that would be great. Suggest it to them for me! Let’s get on to it!

In hindsight, the animated Rex somehow resembles the aged Morrison, so much so that the suggestion is not really difficult to imagine. But at this point, no live-action film is even being rumored to be in development that is set in the current Rebels era as the series’ events directly feed into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. What is on the docket, however, is a Boba Fett bounty hunter spin-off which the Kiwi actor could possibly join given his on-screen son’s involvement in it.

Several weeks ago, speculation rounded the internet when a fan spotted a Rex-looking rebel in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi during the Battle of Endor keeping fans hopeful that maybe the clone trooper was actually still a part of the Rebellion in the original trilogy, we just did not see him because much of the attention was with Luke (Mark Hamill), Han (Harrison Ford) and Leia (Carrie Fisher). Unfortunately, the claim was quickly refuted and now the fate of the clone trooper is still unknown especially with Rebels‘ final season teasing to be a grueling battle between the Freedom Fighters and the Imperial forces. For all we know, he could bite the dust by the time the Disney XD series wraps up.

Looking thru my DVR schedule, Stars Wars Rebels is showing Sunday night at 12 midnight (Technically Monday October 16)

I can’t fucking stand Disney Xd and their fucked your schedule. My DVr hasn’t recorded shit... I didn’t even know the shit was back on.

Lucasfilm May Already be Hiring For The Next Animated Star Wars Show

Star Wars Rebels may be coming to an end, but it looks as though Lucasfilm is about to begin hiring for their next animated series.

In April last year, Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni revealed that Star Wars Rebels was coming to an end. There’s a sense in which this was inevitable since the series is inching ever-closer to the events of A New Hope. Some characters do look set to survive. The presence of Kanan and Ezra, however, would definitely throw a wrinkle in the Original Trilogy’s story. Lucasfilm has confirmed that Filoni is creatively overseeing future animation development, and there have long been rumors that a new animated series will launch in 2018 or 2019.

Those rumors just became a lot more solid, with Lucasfilm Animation announcing a vacancy on LinkedIn. They’re looking for a new Episodic Director, apparently to run a brand new Star Wars animated series. Here’s how Lucasfilm describe the role:

“The Episodic Director’s main role is to work closely with all levels of creative production in tandem with the Supervising Director, in order to bring the script to life on our animated television series. The ideal candidate is expected to balance managing all the various aspects of production, while successfully maintaining the highest quality of technical and creative storytelling possible for their respective episodes.”

They’re looking for an experienced storyteller to manage a team of artists in creating new animated series. Collaborating with Editorial, the Episodic Director will be responsible for interpreting the script visually, storyboarding it as necessary. Needless to say, a company like Lucasfilm will only accept applicants with significant experience. They’re looking for Bachelor’s Degree in animation, film, or a related field; they also want over 10 years of experience (including as a director).

It’s hardly a surprise to see that Lucasfilm is preparing for its next animated project. Both The Clone Wars and Rebels have been tremendous successes, and Filoni has become one of Lucasfilm’s greatest assets. He’s openly discussed his intention to keep working in the galaxy far, far away, but it’s possible Filoni won’t stay with animation. In October last year, he teased that he may be looking to move on to a live-action series; more recently, Disney announced that such a series is in the works for their new streaming service, to release in 2019.

At this stage, only one thing seems certain: Lucasfilm Animation has gone from strength to strength, and Disney aim to keep the successes coming. Star Wars Rebels won’t be the end of the Star Wars animated shows. Even as Rebels comes to a close, Lucasfilm will be getting things ready for their next show.

Just go with some better CGI quality for the next show..

OK this was tight and all but was that Fucking ahsoka at the 2:08 mark.... That Force ghost definitely looked female.

Ahsoka can be seen briefly at the 1:06 mark with the scene of Ezra looking at the hologram of Anakin. It looks like she is explaining who Darth Vader is.

The trailer looks like it is going to explain what the Ghost was doing flying around in the space battle scene in Rogue One. In the movie, they were just flying around but not engaging the Empire.

I don’t know if you caught it, but at the 1:25 there is a shot of retired Clone Trooper Rex with two other former Clone troopers. The guy on the right looks and is wearing the identical outfit as one of the soldiers that was part of the Ground Assault group in Return Of the Jedi

There were theories that it was Rex, but it looks like it was this dude.

no that's from an older Rebels episode.

The problem with Rebels is that the first season was basically a wash and they have spent the last three seasons trying to fit tons of mythology into the show.

Hopefully the next Star Wars show will be exclusive to the new Disney streaming service

The Fuck... you let that son of a bitch go. That nigga is Fucking dangerous. He can track you down for miles.

You make a fair point but overall I greatly enjoyed this series.

Watched the 2 Mid-Season Premiere last night with the kids.

I was not expecting what happened to happen that soon. I knew it was coming from when the episode started, but assumed it would be like 2 or 3 Episodes later.

Things are gonna take a different spin now.

Don’t want to say anything cuz I know some have not seen it.

Good Mid-Season Premiere, they started off strong.

Well shit... these 2 episodes were a fucking 10

I gotta REWATCH that..it was deep as hell

the use of the voices from the movie

EVEN Rey was on there

it was just too much to absorb in one viewing.

(the sub titles were incorrect on the last one that WAS Kanan)

I understand this series DID start slow but seeing the end result?

It was well worth it.
