Lol. I know it wasn't a real rivalry, but it was funny all the same for those who remembers it.




Man , this was a magical time for the Capital City (formerly Chocolate City). President Obama was getting ready to enter the National picture for Prez. Gilbert Areanas was doing his thing. A buzz was definitely in the air. Good times.



Side note: Who remembers when Destiny's Child performed for free in I believe the late 90's or early 2000's at Malcolm X day in Anacostia SE, DC? To me they were big stars already and to have them perform in the hood for free was crazy. And the original Destiny's Child was the best lineup. Only white folks would think differently. Hell white folk didn't even know there was a different lineup.

I think you mean when they performed at the Unifest down on the avenue by the Big Chair. I was down there and had no idea who they were but I know once they sweat that make up Kelly was still fine and I fell in love lol

You are right. I forgot the name of the festival. Didn't Unifest use to be called Malcolm X day/festival?

You didn't know who they were, at first? They had a couple of hits by that time. I guess a lot of folks didn't know who they were considering all the girl groups who were out at that time. I always thought of Beyonce as a star.

It's crazy how the Big Chair is still there. After like 40 plus years. That's crazy.

I always knew it as Unifest. It might've been called Malcom X day before my time though. Yeah I had no idea who they were but all I know is that they were four fine teenagers so I was paying attention lol
