HOT SPRINGS, AR (WCMH) – An Arkansas woman was hauled away to jail after she used a switch on her great-granddaughter, who she says was sassing her.
It all started when the 12-year-old girl talked back while refusing to throw away food, according to a police report.
According to police, the girl still has visible welts on her arm.
Norma Toussaint, 70 tells KARK-TV she pulled a switch off her front hedges, pulled off the leaves and used it to punish her 12-year-old great-granddaughter.

A lot of us went through this and most of us turned out okay but that doesn't make it alright. Times Change and this is one of the things that should be left in the past.
People will use antidotes and platitudes to claim it kept them out of trouble but the facts are we still have the highest incarceration rates, the lowest graduation rates. it's just a way for parents to take out their frustration otherwise pointless imo.

My mother and grandmother would've gotten the maximum penalty allowed by law.
I lived and needed the discipline.
HOWEVER, I don't endorse hitting anyone. Billions of people don't beat their children and most turn out ok. Black people been beating their children since slavery and we still have fucked up folk in our world.

I always thought switches were too brutal for kids. My aunt use to leave welts on my lil cousins skin. My dad used a belt but wouldn't hit us more than 2-3 times. His thunderous voice made the licks feel worse than they really were. I've only hit my kid once, but I hated doing it. But that was with my hand hitting his behind, I wouldn't use a belt and NEVER would use a switch.

I used to wish my mom would use a belt. She used to find every thing else. My sister and I used to try to hide her slippers if we knew we were gonna get in trouble. We turned out fine.
I will discipline my kids if they need it. Better my hand than sit in a jail cell later in life. As a parent if you don't know how to curb that BS when they smelling themselves then that's another story. But my wife mostly handles them when they outta control, cause I just have to give them a look and they good. But my kids are scared to death of licks so they know not to act up. But there's been one or two times when they acted the ass in school and I wasn't having that.
Some people believe in grounding and lock a kid in a room with all their toys, pc, cell phone, TV. So what did you really discipline? Ok so you take it away so they go to sleep like they lazy asses do all day?

And we tell our kids, go ahead call the police, see if you like it better in foster care or a shelter. Enjoy.

Good point. My cuz used to always catch whippings and he's doing life for killing his girl. Growing up we all knew he was crazy. He had that look. Dude wouldn't think twice about swinging a hammer at your head. He didn't need whoopings, he needed a psychologist.
Also, I've read something that kinda makes sense to me. People who get traumatized into behaviors , have trouble learning self control. It's like they grow up always needing someone.to beat shit out of em instead of just learning reason lol
It's not the switch so much but rather the act of actually going out to pick one and bringing to grandma for her to reject it and tell you to get another....that 10-15 minutes felt like two hours.The spanking wasn't that bad.

i dont enough to cast judgement but corporal punishment aint always the answer
alot of ppl were riding with AP, but i dont think too many of em saw the pics. You dont beat a kid like that especially at that age. Problem is alot of us were beat and do the same to our kids

No confusion. The beat me and it probably helped to control me. HOWEVER, I don't presently agree with those methods for several reasons.
I do think when parents beat their children much of it is from immediate anger and not the love of the child or their well being.
Using a switch...is a beating.
