Downsizing looked stupid

and Jumaji didn't do that great, The Rock and Kevin Hart?

Star Wars dropped more than I expected. The nerds aren't seeing it three and four times :dunno:

What's crazy about 2017 is that all of the smaller budget movies are making more than the bigger ones.

Movies that cost $100M are losing at worst are losing and tripling at best

Movies that cost $10M are tripling at worst and God knows at best

A $100 investment into Get Out could have made you a $6,000 return!

Maybe we need to put together a BGOL movie. We have people for screenplays, sound, music, and directing. I'm sure there's some actors here as well. All we need to do is come together and raise the money

It won't be easy, but it is that simple.

Who was that who was talking about that 40%?????????????? I told
that people would turn on that bullshit, and teach Disney and Rian
Johnson a fucking lesson. Now watch how Disney retreats into a
shell a gives us a remake of a previous Star Wars movie in the next
episode

There were just too many family friendly films coming out at once and Pitch Perfect has its own audience. This isn’t that much of a shocker. Next week is going to be the weekend where jumanji might overtake it. It’s gotten better reviews then I thought.

Dude this movie has made 638million world wide in only 8 days. It doesn’t even open I’m China until January 5. This movie hasn’t even peeked yet.

The reviews for Jumanji are not that bad.
7.1 on IMDB
77% RT Critics
89% RT Audience
I saw Jumanji. It wasn't that bad. $50 million so far on an $84 million budget and it's just the first week.

Downsizing looked stupid
Lol @ the greatest showman

I got moviepass so I saw jumanji, but when I got there I found out that Moviepass doesn't do 3D movies so I actually paid $13 for it, and after seeing it I wasn't mad about the money, so that's saying something

I forever think that people focus to much on domestic box. Transformers and pacific rim proved that point.
Anyone with sense knows studios dont/can’t rely on American dollars anymore. They’re too damn flaky.

It’s been 4 or 5 years since studios have abandoned the American market.

Americans say they want films yet refused to see Valarian. The Shape of Water is out. How many people saw the Denzel flick? And then they wonder why folks are bored.

I see movies once a week and my schedule looks clear until Black Panther. January is where we are supposed to see blockbusters that just weren’t good for summer. They were too dumb for the elitist micheal bay crowd.

Is this the thread to talk about Coco underperforming?

This year proved that the smaller budget films were better films all around. Get Out, for example, wasn't going to get a 100 million for reshoots like JusticeLeague. Those films had to have a tight script long before it went into production.

Damn they really fucked themselves on Disaster Artist......good reviews, big cast....that roll out was terrible though.

What's the standard for a movie that does 200 million its first week? You aren't going to do even half of that the 2nd week...the more money you make the first week the bigger the drop off will be the second week.
Force Awakens did - 39%
Last Jedi had by far the largest open for the year
Movies that opened large this year like 2nd place Beauty and the Beast and 3rd place Guardians 2 - had 2nd week drop off numbers in the 40s and 50s
Disney might compare it to the Force Awakens performance -

Money is money at the end of the day, but when the totals are similar, I guarantee you studios prefer that domestic dollar over the foreign one. A movie's revenue doesn't directly correlate to studio profit. Over here we have a consistent business paradigm & laws with less graft & corruption. In China, for example, studios get about half the return/profit as the would in the US for films with the same revenue. Look it up.

You are right. I watch these and I usually see a big drop off like with Justice League and Coco and shit. But I didn't know Force Awakens only did the 39. Its rare you see something with a big opening do that. Damn. Disney not gonna like this shit. I think word of mouth has hurt it as opposed to Force Awakens.

And that’s only the us market.

I can’t wait for the numbers to be posed after the new Jurassic movie. That movie looks awful.

They better stop trying to make Jurassic Park a franchise. That last one should've been a one off. The story keeps getting more dumb by the movie. Even Spielberg was like fuck that shit.

Do you realize how much the last one made

It's going to be Fast & The Furious with dinosaurs
