Buying a used truck

I know you can't be in the south. I lived in NYC majority of my life, moved to TX a decade ago. Was a a bit of a culture shock to see everyone and they grandma driving pickups. Literally

You can drive thru neighborhoods and see almost every house with at least one to three pickups typically in front of a house. For years I said I'd never conform, but fell into a biz where now I literally can't really do without.

I grew up in the south. From time to time rode on the bed of uncovered pickup trucks. Try
to hold on and not get cut! Terrible experience. Trucks like 1984 F150 I posted I saw every day and
they were not my cup of tea.

Maybe my experience in riding back there made me forego the pickup truck and go to
an SUV instead. I don't have a business, so an SUV does enough for me personally.

Just brought a 1992 f150 for $2k. No rust and 74k miles. Guy wanted 8500 at first!!
You got beat.

Two years ago, I got a '96 F-250 for $800.
Single cab
5.0 V8 (with paperwork showing new engine from dealership in 2013)
Long bed (was rusted under liner, so I replaced bed)
Body needed 2 fenders and paint man owed me some money so he painted it for me

OK, well wasn't asking from your personal experience but just from what I see of the majority of people in Houston and surrounding seem to have a ton of pickups.

But also just in response to the truck posted just above, that's a single cab, doesn't command as much bread as a 4 door cab. A 2k7 quad cab Ram goes for 9k+ or so out here

https://www.kbb.com/dodge/ram-1500-quad-cab/2007/st-pickup-4d-8-ft/

Here's a 2007 Ram with 159k miles for $11k

Ok, well you said I must not be in the South, I'm just showing you how much south I grew up in

The market and what people drive is based on preference or the business need, or pulling trailers,
boats, ATVs, motorcycles or hauling. There are more people that need these things south of
mason dixon since it is more blue collar here. But since I have none of the needs, my personal
preference is elsewhere. The people in my family need trucks, I know those needs well and
understand them. What I was trying to understand is other peoples take on it and even those
not from the South.

I know it was alot for down in the lower 48. In Alaska it was a good price. Any vehicle with a decent motor and a working heater is atleast 1k.

On the real, my mechanic had a Dodge truck like this, he was constantly fixing something.
Chrysler makes shit.

Most vehicles are 4x4 or all wheel drive. Snow and ice cover the roads for 4 to 6 months of the year. Alot of families have trucks if they have a second vehicle.

You black in Alaska? Do you have to register once you enter the state?

We may need a hand check

Buy a used GM truck The engine and transmission usually go for a very long time without a major breakdown I have a 2003 Tahoe with 270,000 miles on it still running great

They have the worst, take a look at the comparisons. Gasoline engines the Titan least amount of horsepower, the Tundra has the worst gas mileage. They might make great cars, but truck wise they cant touch the big 3, Ford, Chevy Dodge.

Check out this article on the 11 most powerful trucks, Nissan and Toyota are
last.

I have a F150 and love it. I will never touch a Nissan but have heard nothing but positives about Tundras & Tacomas. Tacomas are the top mid-size truck on the market from what I've heard as well.

Toyota and Nissan are the 2 worst. You obviously don't own or have ever shopped for a truck
I have a 2013 Ford F150 and it's the best truck I ever had and have not had any majors issues out of it since I have had it for 4 years now.

The F150s at the top of the list all have V6 engines so I'd expect them to have superior gas mileage. All the others are V8s & the Tundra isn't far off from the other brands. The most consistent thing I've heard about Tundras are how well they perform off road. My neighbor is a mechanic and swears by Tundras. He owns an 04 Tundra & said when he upgrades to a new truck, he's only taking another Tundra. I stay away from Dodge trucks as I've heard too many stories of issues with their electronics & front ends. Nissan gets a huge fuck you from me in the way they handled the issue I brought up with the CVTs in my girl's Murano. Plus Nissan was never known for quality trucks anyways.

I love my F150 & will probably keep it for housework duties but I got my eye on getting a Sierra Denali as my truck of the future.

We are not talking about ford, we are talking about Toyota and Nissan. They are shit compared to every other truck on the matket.

Other than the diesel v6 dodge 1500, I wouldn't even consider buying a 6 cyl pick up. The torque and gas mileage are insane. I have never had any issues with either of my dodges and they are the only company that has lifetime warranty. My ex had a murano, I bought for her, and I can't say anything bad, it was problem free as well. In the half ton pick up class though the hemi is where it's at, my trucks will run 14's no problem and with the Diablo tune low 13's, I don't want to avoid my warranties though. Both my trucks have the ram boxes and that is something else that I love and have gotten accustomed to. I hate the uconnect Bluetooth for the p hone and radio but I already changed out the radio in my 10 and will probably do my 12 this summer. My friend has a 13 tundra, and another a 16 f150, neither one of them can keep up with my hemi. Over the last 10 years dodge has built a really solid truck and engine, I mean shit look at the srt8, hellcat. And demon, they are all about performance.

Why don’t you want to finance? With all these 0 percent rates out there, you better buy your own new truck and finance. You can also buy slightly used for 1.8 percent.

Where Jagu?

I guess I'm afraid of having a car payment hanging over my head and if something happens where I can't pay it, I'm fucked.

But link me to 0% & 1.8%

Yes it’s easy to join. I can’t remember the details, it’s been about 10years that I joined them.
Ok, I think my real question is if I gotta have a standing relationship with history and a lot of money in their bank?

Do they use your balance as criteria for determining if they gon loan you money?

No, just your credit. I belong to several credit unions and just use whichever one has the lowest rate for my needs. For example, I only have $15 with pentagon credit union but I got a car loan with them years ago.

I don't believe a new truck is worth what they're selling them for, especially when it won't do more than the used truck that costs less than half.

I don't wanna sign up for $30-40k worth of debt for a truck that will do the same as a $12-15k truck.

I wanna finance the $15k truck
