Game Of Thrones: The Sopranos with swords or Dynasty in chainmail?

You don't think Sam who is practically a walking encyclopedia of everything he's ever read wouldn't know the name of the former Crown Prince of the land who like reading, poetry and is only like one generation older than him. C'mon man.

Agreed, I have changed my mind on this one. But still Cersei is a lot less effective when she tries to be clever. You would think she learned that about herself by now

Like I said, initially, it just feels like weak and rushed writing. I could think of several better ways to re-introduce Gendry back to the story.

He hasn't looked up that stuff yet
He hasn't dived into lineage at all so it had no interest
His mind was stuck on stopping walkers and he hasn't been concerned with the ppl stories just stories on how to stop them

So if its a story about a dragon he probably auto skips it and if it's about anything other than ways to kill walkers he's not caring .

You see he gave that to his wife he wasn't reading it. That was work that he hadn't got to yet so it served no purpose now if he was writing it and soaked it up it would be different but if you had a handwritten copy assignment and someone grabbed one of the books you had to copy that you weren't interested in while you're working and started reading you'd be like yo I don't care let me get thru this punishment so I can go and look at the books I really wanted to read in the first place

Something I just thought about: obviously Sam is becoming one of the most important pieces in the fight against the WW and what not, and there was certainly no love lost between him and his pops.....but do we see any scenario where the fact that Dany cooked his dad and bro that comes back to bite her in the ass? Did him and his bro get along or had they all completely disowned him?

I guess he's the head of his house now tho, already has his pops sword

He only loved his mom and sister
Dad hated him sent him to the watch
He'll be hurt cause he's Sam and then he'll be Sam and just give her side eye

The thing is, clever Cersei isn't as clever as she thinks she is. Her father blatantly told her that and we've all seen evidence of that. She is a much better off as a vengeful bitch then she is as a clever strategist.

We know this
But she's like you miss 100% of the shots you don't take type of person

Some serious sexism in this thread. I've seen so many mentions of how Cersei isn't as smart as she thinks. She out smarted all of Tyrions plans and gets no props. No matter what she does cats keep underestimating her and calling her names. If she was a guy I bet she would receive a lot of love.

She don't tho lol
Being willing to go the lowest route isn't out smarting ppl
Her clever gets her in the fucked up position in the 1st place
She brought religion to the city and then in a last effort attempt literally had to blow up her family Graves and her ppl in order to escape lol

That wasn't tactic that was a Doug flute hail Mary

He didn't even hear the name he had stopped paying attention after she talked about the steps

My point is that Sam who was already a who grew up reading books instead of playing at swords would ALREADY have known Rhaegar's name even before he ever got to the wall. By all accounts Rhaegar was just like Sam growing up until he found about the prophecy and decided to become a warrior.

He wouldn't have to look it up because every kid in Westeros already knows the story about Rhaegar and his exploits. Sam would probably know as much or more about it than anyone.

I KNOW he didn't hear Gilly when she tried to say the name, I was just arguing against your point that Sam wouldn't know the name. I mean the dude was a legend before he got kilt.

Sam is like Jon in the sense all he's trying to do is what Jon wanted him to do.
Find out how to kill walkers.
Every way
So yea he'd know the name but in those moments he wouldn't be concerned with a secret wedding or any piece of info about him
Like there's no reason for him to pause at a name like you said he's heard before about a wedding especially when it has 0 ties to Jon as far as he knows
In Sam's mind and everyone else in their world dad Ned mom someone else the only person who knows the truth is bran. Thats it. In the entire world coupled with nobody interested in learning those things just us the viewer.

Like even if she said married to lyanna that's not jons mother to everyone in the entire world.

Sam has no clue who Jon's mother is anyway. Everyone thinks he is the son of Ned Stark and an unknown woman. So unless that story goes on to say that he married them, she gave birth, and Ned Stark took off with the child after her death, those are dots he wouldn't connect in the first place.

Yup just got thru saying that

ep 5 was good as wel!1..damn, that littlefinger is a sneaky MF..its time to get rid of him..i guess the dragon knows that jon is one of them!!..good to see genry is back ..hes not playin no games!!..man, this show get better on every ep!!

Can't wait for next sunday

Jon is not a bastard.
But John doesn't know that. Actually, the only person who knows that is Bran Stark. Everybody else just thinks that Jon Snow is Ned Stark's bastard

Why doesn't Jon Snow want Daenerys Targaryen to know that he was brought back to life by Magic after being stabbed in the heart? I mean, don't they have to explain how he got out of the Nights Watch?

@Camille @largebillsonlyplease @dawilleyone I'd like to go back to a point mentioned earlier that Sam is like a damn encyclopedia of Westeros, fables, lineage and myths. After all, Rhaegar (sp) is essentially just the generation before Sam and Jon. Sam grew up as a Lord and was around other Lords so you know he heard some shit. I say that to say, if all of a sudden a recent Stark was recorded as being married in secret and possibly birthing a child then it isn't far fetched for Sam to connect the dots. R+L= a kid. You have all Stark children and 1 bastard (who is damn near the same age as Rob) from a man who wasn't known for doing that sort of thing. Then Jon will surely tell Sam about his experiences with Danny and the Drogon.

Sam will be doing the math and connecting all types of shit like...

Guys cersie had a miscarriage last episode. She playing Jamie all the way. Ain't shit in that belly

Exactly, that's what Kyburn was most likely talking to her about in private before Jamie walked in. She knows that's the only way to keep Jamie on her side, plus the witch told her she would have 3 kids not 4. If Jamie finds out she lied to him about the baby that may be the final straw that puts him against her.

Yea. That's only if she gets to say Lyanna Stark. She didn't get to that point because he's on 1 single track and it ain't got nothing to do with Rhaegar so ALL would slip through the cracks in this moment. It would've been extremely fake if he was worried about white walkers and not letting Jon down and doing his punishment mad as fuck and then was like "Rhaegaer? Oh he got divorced and then married?

That'd be like a cat in charge of curing cancer in the room with his wife and she's like "Brad Pitt got a divorce and about to get married again" and he was like "Oh shit to who? cancer can wait"

But my point within wasn't he didn't know his name it was why would his name matter?

Bill's I think we are going in circles, In your reply to your original post you said.

Who would notice it? Why would Sam notice those names they don't mean anything to him. Nothing."

That's the point I was arguing against. I'm not suggesting Sam would connect it to Jon in any way (at first), but even without any connection to Jon, the fact that the Crown Prince of all of Westeros was annulled and secretly remarried would be HUGE news all by itself. Annulment by itself means the marriage NEVER happened, that might even mean that Rhaegar kids with the Dornish girl might be legally disinherited from the line of ascension.

Just think about how big that would have been if it became public. That might have started a war all by itself. So that was I was reacting to the writers/showrunner's choice to drop such a huge revelation as a casual aside.

And again I think they did it to illustrate how being on 1 singular track you can miss a whole hell of a lot that's all.
Like it made sense completely why he wasn't interested in that shit at all. He even answered it all snippy like "Cast his wife aside" like if you keep talking to me I might do that to you lol
I get you not liking how they dropped the info but also keep in mind that book is probably with them too so there's a chance it comes up again and soon.

A better analogy would be like her announcing that George Bush Sr was born in El Salvador and all his kids were born in Mexico.

I wouldn't be surprised. Put nothing past Cersei. Then i can really see Jamie choking the shit out of her. If the baby is real its Euron or she dies from it. I can also see her lying cuz Jamie changed and stop fighting (like a Lannister) once all their kids died. They have always been taught to preserve their legacy. No kids no legacy no reason to fight.

Don't think its him he just has bran so shook from the last time. He can sense Bran he flexed on him like "What" and Bran bounced and wanted no parts of him.
Then he could use a dragon and burn the army away, leaving night king and a few walkers which john and his army can wipe out.
