Thanks for telling me. I can save my money

Funny, when you think about it only Frank Darabont has a perfect track record when turning the great Stephen King's novels into movies.

Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and the Mist. The Mist was slept on and wasn't as big a hit as the other two, but it was still a goddamn good movie. For some reason, Stephen King books just don't seem to make good movies

I think a lot of his stories rely on the terror generated in the mind's eye. When you make a monster or thing "real", it takes some of the polish off of the apple, so to speak. Of those three movies you named, two were grounded mostly in reality, and one dealt mostly with people surrounded by the unknown.

I had a feeling it would be too focused on the kid and not Idris Elba's character.
I keep getting the same feeling every time I see the trailer for that Bruce Lee movie. Like the whole movie is going to be about the white boy and Bruce is just going to be a background character.

Sadly, only ethnic movie characters can be second tier in their own flicks.....Hollyweird strikes again.

directors don't know how to adapt king's novel to movie well. kubrick did his version of the shining which was great. darabont did great too. the mist was a dope film. that ending fucked me up. certain king novels are better for series or limited series events. dark tower should of been an series with a set number of seasons in mind to fully flesh out the source material.

Agreed. The Mist ending was unexpected and crazy af.

Haven't seen it yet. I read/heard that it was supposed to be different than the books...like an epilogue to the book series.

That was the only movie I seen this year in the theatre. I'm done for 2017. D/L only from here on out.

You didn't like Pet Semetary, Cujo, Christine, Stand by Me, It, Cats Eye?

I knew it was going to be some bullshit, just wasn't dark enough and they want it to be family friendly....which the book isn't

Shit, the ending of the Mist fucked me up for real... You know why, but. Damn. If you haven't seen it go see it. I'm not going to fuck it up for you, even though the movie is old as hell

Just came from seeing it.

It wasn't so bad if you never read any of the novels or had any idea of how the Dark Tower connects everything.

If you have & expected the Stephen King version of the Lord Of The Ring movie trilogy....well, you will be sadly & sorely disappointed.

The plot was formulaic (very Hollywood, which means that you've seen it almost every movie nowadays) & the director obviously standardized the book into enough to make a movie.

Idris & McConanghy are the saving graces of this movie. I see this movie a lot like the first IT TV show. A star that eclipsed the movie, an interesting first half & a substandard second.

It might have helped if they would have explained beforehand that this movie is basically the continuation of the last Dark Tower novel (if you are a Constant Reader, you'll get it...if not, you won't)...but that would have killed sales.

Apparently, the TV series will be a prequel explaining the background, which is probably why they didn't do too much of it in the movie.

But it could have been & should have been a lot better.

3/10 for me. Extremely disappointed.

You get to see a lot of the SK universe in the movie though. Thinnys, portals, the shine, low men, breakers, etc. They even showed Dandelo & foreshadowed the insane train (once again, Constant Readers know what I'm talking about).

But still, this should be the modern day version of the LOTR trilogy.

I was hoping it would mainly focus on Book 1 but they tried to cram the whole series into one movie?

Forgoing the dark and grit for family friendly?

Not the moves :smh:

That's how potential franchises get fucked

Ahhh well :(

man a person has to be a true SK fan to feel his on screen adaptations...
What about needful things, storm of the century, Delores Claiborne, Misery? Those were all the shit!
I'm a fan of Stephen King books and the fact that one of his books being turned into a movie is a selling point. The problem is, most directors don't know what the fuc they're doing with the source material and it ends up falling flat

Someone said that Darabont changed the ending to the mist and Stephen King was good with it. you got to have the mind of Stephen King to make a good Stephen King book into the movie (Silver Bullet was also another good one)

Welp, I guess the wife won't like it. If you looked at our bookshelf, you'd think it was an SK museum. She has ALL of his books, and sometimes, she's a stickler for details when it comes to movies about his books. If it's an entertaining flick, she'll roll with it.
