Millennials are killing chains like Buffalo Wild Wings and Applebee's

Casual dining is in danger — and millennials are to blame.

Brands such as TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesday, and Applebee's have faced sales slumps and dozens of restaurant closures, as casual dining chains have struggled to attract customers and grow sales.

"Casual-dining restaurants face a uniquely challenging market today," Buffalo Wild Wings CEO Sally Smith recently wrote in a letter to shareholders.

According to Smith, these sit-down restaurants' struggles can blamed on the most-frequently besmirched generation: millennials.

"Millennial consumers are more attracted than their elders to cooking at home, ordering delivery from restaurants and eating quickly, in fast-casual or quick-serve restaurants," Smith wrote.

While blaming millennials has become a trend to the point of cliche in retail, Smith isn't wrong to zero in on younger customers' changing tastes as a major factor in casual dining's downfall.

I also care about what's in my food and supporting local businesses. I'll forego a chain restaurant to support a mom and pop restaurant, or to forego heartburn and other ailments following a meal that's not good for me in the first place. I can control what I put in my food at home...

applebees used to be a decent meal for a cheap price
that shit tastes horrible now
its not millenials its the quality of the food

This... Now that I'm older I realize most chains are trash. I'm willing to pay a little more for better food and a better overall dining experience. They tried to go backwards. The went cheaper, when the movery is better quality. But once you're known as cheap, you can't go the other way. Greedy higher ups always looking to squeeze more profits is what did them in.

Not young, but in our house, it's fresh cooking and Uber Eats, when we're feeling lazy. A lot of the young people in my hood are going to local spots that aren't big franchises. There are too many good local spots to be eating that shit. Also, in the 'burbs, these places are getting a run for their money by mom & pops joints. Maybe people are beginning to recognize good food when they see it.

I prefer the smaller mom and pops places with fresher food that's locally cooked. I got no gripes when the person behind the counter says, "we ran out sorry..."

Fine by me. Let's me know they cook from fresh.

In Sum: Corporations won't take responsibility for their crappy food and want to blame Millennials instead
And the spotty service. Bottom line: it's too much good food out there to be putting up with their crap. I went to one a very long time ago and ordered a medium rare steak, and dude looked at me and asked, "Are you sure?", and my wife looked at him and said, "Really?"

Yup blame it all on millenials. Older generations talk all shit like they wasnt on the earth 25 years ago putting shit in motion that led to what we're seeing today. Mofos cant blame us for everything, mofos need to stop acting like they shit dont stink.

It don't! Now, take your behind to Applebee's and atone for your sins! On a serious note, there are far too many options in large metropolitan areas. In small town, maybe not so much. However, I lived in Macon, Ga., and even they had better options.

Millenials have always had some form of social media at thier disposal...and in the social media world, If one group member knows a restaurant has crappy service and is overpriced, then thier entire social timeline will know it as well.

These companies are finally feeling the backlash of charging the most and delivering the least.
Yelp be killin' people.
