Wonder Woman: Discussion thread (spoilers)

Looking at the fight choreography... :smh:

This will only "succeed" if the writing/fx is filling in the gaps. Otherwise it will suck like so many others.

posted on another board - re: the german officer vs wonder woman fight

Seems they just leaked the rest of this conversation :

GO: “As Magnificent as you are, you’re still no match for me.”

WW: “We’ll see about that.”

GO: “Don’t you understand, I must kill you to save Hypolita!”

WW: “Why did you say that name? WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!!!”

weapons isn't too bad but hand to hand is glaring- its not only the choreo... the wire work in the clips vary from awkward to just shit
the editing in the themyscira (sic) fight looks clunky/ off
the energy in all of the action sequences looks underwhelming...
the only good trailer I've seen is the one for China.

I'm hoping the finished product is better or the screenplay saves the visuals with story charm humor and wit

^^^

that one makes me think they finally got this.

just saw HFunk's post...
this is not looking good -
Marco Polo had a fraction of this budget but its action, choreo, cinematography and editing are head and shoulders over this

trailer looks good with a bunch of quick cuts
but the actual scenes? we'll see - I'm keeping my expectations real low

give a pre game analysis

what does this movie have to make opening weekend to be considered a HIT in your eyes.

and what would the SECOND weekend have to look like?

do you think WB/DC is gonna have Joss look this over before the the official release?

What would a Wonder Woman failure mean for the future of the current Justice League?

the movie has been finished for awhile - so I doubt Joss got a crack at it...

$60 million, with less than 33% drop in 2nd week... would put it well over a $100 in 10 days...
to me -WW would be a hit with great word of mouth

anything over $80 opening will be considered a big deal

less than 60 and they start grumbling about female action movies not selling

All the signs point to Snyderverse being dead - unless JL makes over a billion, WW and Aquaman do Deadpool numbers

another thing...

this was a pretty late review embargo date
the premiere was this week and the opening is next week
but the embargo was set for a day before preview 5/31
now its set for 5/29 - because they are now "more confident"

I think critics are getting envelopes...
everytime I read an excited blogger's reaction
I go back and watch all the scenes they have released in the last 2 weeks...
to my eyes - the tone and film making aren't matching their gushing reactions

You know all the females going to say it's good since they having woman-only screenings..
that's not their core audience and they know it... but its a nice touch,
they could have really done something with this if they started brand alliances and merchandising last summer

bingo

I would have thought they would have learned from watching how the all girl Ghostbusters became almost critic proof based off that.

Here's an early (Spoiler-Free) 'Wonder Woman' review from a guy who.... absolutely HATED... the 'Man of Steel', 'Batman vs. Superman' & 'Suicide Squad' movies...

(Skip to the 1:20 mark to bypass all his intro chit chat & shoutouts. It's short. Only like 3 minutes, or so)

this what I'm talking about - everyone that got an advance screening is doing gushing reactions about the movie

but none of the released scenes or sequences in marketing match up with this - there must be a completely different dynamic in the actual film

Simple answer = Patty Jenkins learned from all the Zach Snyder BvS trailers... and did not reveal the BEST parts of her movie in the trailers.

(For example: i already know WHO the 'main villains' are... but most people wouldn't be able to easily figure it out from all the trailers. :smh:)

maybe so, we'll see...

but that doesn't explain why the work in the full scenes and extended sequences pushed out over the last 2 weeks are so subpar...
the beach battle with horses... thats not even TV show level quality
I can't see a marketing team in WB using the worst parts of the movie to market it... and if this is the standard average look of the film I'm baffled by all the gushing...
Unless... WW Hulks out in the climatic battle scenes with someone other than Patty directing :dunno:

Nah bruh. Its not that deep. :smh: :lol:

She directed it herself... and the vast majority of (spoiler free) 'early reviews' I personally have seen so far... all give her 'top marks' for the cinematography.

It's actually an indication of her 'directing skills' if she can make solid trailers without putting the very best scenes in them.

that's not honest writing by those guys-
Patty has never directed action before but her first time at bat - anyone really looking can see that every one of the "moments" - the framing choices- ignoring physics, the sequences that force a moment / slow mo / still (everytime WW etc goes through a wall, slides or jumps, etc) all follow Zack Snyder's tendencies...
except for MoS - all of his moments are static
Where I do see Patty at work is it appears the screenplay and dialogue are GREATLY improved over BvS and JL teasers- so it looks like WW won't race from moment to moment like those do .

Right now the editing on action sequences looks funky to bad - and the poor stunt coordination makes it look much worse -but - I'm clinging to hope none of the previews clips and scenes are from the finished work...

If this movie turns out to be amazing - everyone at WB marketing needs to be fired then fire the ceo and coo because in different ways they fucked up 3 movies in less than year that could have been record breaking classics - pure incompetence

More 'Non-Spoiler' Reviews...

3 Skeptic DC Comic Fans review Wonder Woman...

This guy breaks down the choreography, fight scenes and cinematography, without any spoilers. (His more in-depth comments start around the 2:00 min mark... But check out what he says between the 7:00-8:00 min mark )

This chic totally agrees with your opinion about Patty Jenkins whole resume ...
And questions Patty's ability to even direct 'action movies' within the very first minute of her review :dunno:....

ehhh
she doesn't agree with my point on Patty - no one pc would mention my point on Patty - its all bad for anyone to point out a glaring truth like that... femdom would crucify that person
I don't know these 3 - so I'll wait on reviewers I know,
FatMan on Batman should be out on Monday night at the latest...

Before the Winter Soldier the Russos never directed action before and look how that turned out. Maybe the chick found her calling lol. I'll check the reviews before watching but every trailer I've seen has been pretty damn good.
