Why the Jamaican Beef Patty Is a NYC Icon

 I've seen the patties made fresh and put into an oven.

Well it's not like every mom and pop spot makes good Caribbean food. So Gold Krust is more readily available than a good Caribbean spot in many places.
where?
even on undercover boss none of those GK's had so much as a bag of flour anywhere in sight

are you seeing patties being folded and crimped on the sheet?
or just seeing them on a baking sheet going into the oven?

FACTS!!!! No GK ever tastes the same as the other one. They are beyond hit or miss. I look at GK as a last resort for Caribbean food whenever I'm in an area that lacks other Caribbean spots. GK to me is the commercial goto spot for people who aren't familiar with Caribbean food.
The other food sucks
But the beef patties is a hit

wait is that the spot where a million people be on line near the fake mall?? i never ate them shits cause it literally be 1 long ass line everytime i was around that bitch
Yep. I always eat where there's a line. There's a reason.

I could never go to Bay Plaza as a kid. It was wild over there. Don't know if it still is.

Jackie's at Bay Plaza has been my shit, since high school. I discovered it after a game (DeWitt Clinton) at Truman High School. Still till this day when I go back to visit family and friends I find an excuse to get one.

Paul's Bakery in the Bronx will close this thread.
238th and White Plains Road
Then there is another one owned by the same family near Gun Hill.

dude -a "real jamaican bad man" swearing by a frozen patty and a bakery that fell off years ago :giggle:
only reason - jamaican flavors is still considered good is because of the universal spread of Golden Crust's stale ass patties through NYC!

to my knowledge -fresh patties are only done in Bklyn and Bx now
but I keep searching for new spots in Queens

Golden Krust patties are overrated as fuck. I'll take the local mom & pop Jamaican bakeries over any Golden Krust all day every day. BTW the best patty & coco bread in the BX are at Kingston Bakery on White Plains Rd & Jackie's Bakery on 233rd St & Baychester Ave.

Jackies is MEH!!!! Best patty is Royal Caribbean on Dyre and in Mt Vernon

Thats on Barnett street. The patties were ok the last time I was there :dunno:

i think that's most caribbean people. i don't care for roti from guyanese ppl or oxtail from anyone who isn't jamaican.
I experienced this being married to a yardie in the past. I'm a foodie, so I appreciate traditional and different interpretations of traditional foods. But then again i dance to the beat of my own drum:cool:

Damn bruh? Where u been? How long u been out of nyc?

The coco bread with the patty is like icing to a cake. There is no other way to have it.

The next thing to Jamaican food in terms of my favorites is Haitian food. Griot and Pikliz all day :)

there's a big west indian community in the bx also.. west indians are in every borough..queens got a lot to..black americans as u like to call us live in every borough also

I know quite a few Trinis and Guyanese folk in Queens too.

only thing I would add to a beef patty is coco bread
