They used to make an ok patty.
Jackie's at Bay Plaza has been my shit, since high school. I discovered it after a game (DeWitt Clinton) at Truman High School. Still till this day when I go back to visit family and friends I find an excuse to get one.

they sell beef patties at 7-11. Hell I've seen Golden Krust and some other brand in some grocery stores.and aren't most beef patties frozen these days?

back in the 80s / 90s in se queens we had 4 or 5 great bakeries - fresh baked bread and patties daily - never frozen
the one in Queens Village: first batch ready at 6a, fresh batches throughout the day last batch sold out for the day by 5p to 7p
now they are all gone, Bx also had a gang of spots, Golden Crust was just one of many that made great freshness -
but now every golden crust patty is frozen - some with freezer burn -days old coco bread and a bullshit variety of only mild stale patties from jerk to veggie
all the popular patties are frozen -every Golden Crust etc -

only reason - jamaican flavors is still considered good is because of the universal spread of Golden Crust's stale ass patties through NYC!

Its called Negril in Silver Spring. One of the best spots for fresh home made in house patties. Coco bread on point too. Trust me you'll be satisfied for sure.

Dogs I use to gig on cats getting Patti at the pizza shop back in the days. When I go back its not how it use to be even Jamaican spots be half stepping when Im up top. Couple spots up in The BX on the Gunhill line 2 train that are bananas still lol.

I was lucky enough to chop it up with Mr. Hawthorne a few years back, I was setting up an intro to a Jamaican artist to license some of his designs and work - as we talked about a few things concerning uniform branding in the stores - I mentioned that I found the freshness of the patties disappointing and inconsistent across the stores - he told me that every patty is made at his factory and delivered - if there is a problem in consistency it's because franchisees aren't training workers to follow GK instructions
He then said he wants to implement a lot of what McDs does for quality control - but he's also focused on expanding the franchises...

FACTS!!!! No GK ever tastes the same as the other one. They are beyond hit or miss. I look at GK as a last resort for Caribbean food whenever I'm in an area that lacks other Caribbean spots. GK to me is the commercial goto spot for people who aren't familiar with Caribbean food.

I've seen the patties made fresh and put into an oven.Well it's not like every mom and pop spot makes good Caribbean food. So Gold Krust is more readily available than a good Caribbean spot in many places.
