Man years ago me and my ex wife was at the Crenshaw swap meet. Ex was from Cali. I had on a white wife beater and some black shorts (no gang shit) how about as soon as we get in there some rock head niggas ask me what set you rep? I said Military.
Man, I was on the same shit in Inglewood. Years ago when I had braids I was in LA with my lady. We were about to go down to San Diego and my braids needed to be redone. So we figured we'd find a spot to get it done. I made sure to just dress in a white tee and Jean shorts. No hats or colors on anything.
1st spot we get to had bars all over that motherfucker and the door was locked. I knocked on the door. A lady cracks the door open and asked what did I want, I said to get my hair braided and she said no. At the time I was living in Atlanta and never had an issue walking into a barber shop or braid spot and getting serviced. I was shocked when she said no and slammed the door in my face. 2nd shop same shit. At the 3rd spot, which was totally empty besides the 2 ladies working there, I was asked where was I from, I told them NY but living in Atlanta, they said cool and let us in. I asked what was with the suspicious treatment around here and she told me niggas rob and kill all the time and people don't fuck with who they don't know. My wife decided that she wanted her her braided up too, but the lady said she was out of rubber bands. I offered to go across the street to the corner store and get them since I wanted something to drink anyway. Both girls jumped up and said NO!!! That I should give them the money and they'll get what we need. I asked why and they told me that niggas got shot there the previous night and that her cousin and brother were killed on the block at separate times. The niggas around there set trip hard.
I've been to hoods all across the world and never had an experience like that shit. The residents were shook. The shit was deceiving because it didn't look like a hood. There were single family homes, manicured yards, and palm trees. There was no gang graffiti or nor bangers on the streets. Plus it was a residential neighborhood. So I figured it was calm, apparently I was wrong.
Meanwhile latino gangbangers are bodying both crips and bloods.
