Great like The Godfather or Shawshank Redemption? No. This was great on some Alfred Hitchcock kind of deal where people are marveling at the depth and the creativity and the acting and writing as a whole with this movie

I can understand you and some others for not thinking that it's the greatest thing you've ever seen. I saw it a second time a couple of days ago and realize I didn't miss anything, or rather I didn't catch anything I didn't see the first time

It was a damn creative idea/concept, it broke from the stereotype the black man getting killed in the horror movies, it broke from the stereotypes of the black man not being smart enough to out-think the Predators in the scary movie.

As a writer I respect the talent to come up with some off-the-wall new kind of thinking and putting it together rather inexpensively. One day I hope to come up with a creative concept that kind of changes the way people think the same way this film did with many

I feel you completely on it being something new and creative, not your typically ghetto gangster shit or black romance relationship shit or black people overcoming the odds in a white man's world.

I can agree it was definitely a different look from the typical genre of black film your post just made me put things in perspective.

To me, it was not a bad movie it was actually good. but I just didn't jump up and down when the movie was finished. but I definitely get it! I guess I jumped into the movie with my henny and chicken wings expecting to see the greatest shit ever made. I'm not hating but I guess I just took everyone's reviews of the flick to think it was a timeless classic some shit that would go down in the history books!

I feel it fa`sho

I guess I got to peep it again I mean it wasn't straight trash but with all the hype I thought I was going to be on the level of the Godfather,Glory, Shaw shank redemption type flick a bonafide classic.
is any horror/suspense film on the level of those movies? i doubt it. Not even Exorcist.

(SPOILERS)

It was not just a great movie for me, but it was great to see a movie express thoughts and conversations I have had with my brethren my whole life.

How white folk only find us acceptable for our physical traits is something we all talk about, but the manner in which it was woven into the plot was extremely creative.

I will take/accept the part of your brain that makes you/me run faster or be cooler or stronger and in doing so I will relieve you of the ability to think for yourself. Your are acceptable to me as long as you are running and jumping...but thinking? Not so much.

And then how the black guy turned out to be the grandfather, who never got over being beat by Jesse Owens??? So he wanted to be faster... and that applied to all the people at the party....

All made into a thriller...loved it.

In terms of the suspense and horror scenes it was underwhelming imo, however I felt the imagery and subliminal messages were dead on.

*Spoiler alert*

They way the movie created an image of Rose that she could be trusted, when she stood up for homie when the cop asked for his license. Did she do it because it was the decent thing to do or because she didn't want a paper trail? The fact that Chris literally had to pick cotton to save his ass, there are so many more that I'm forgetting. I recommend going to watch the movie a second time you will start to see all the nuances that make the film special.

Sometimes things go over people's heads and/or is just too much for some.

dont have any white friends but i can imagine the experience would be different

personally it home and was truly a cathartic experience

Another reason I'm p gonna see this movie multiple times is because it's not that long. That's probably my only complaint I would have like to have seen what Peele left on the cutting room floor or ideas he left out of this film.

I can't think of any movie like this at all during my lifetime. OP mention hidden figures (ripped the name off the documentary AND added a white savior when in real life they didn't let her in mission control :smh:) and Fences....I'm sure it's good but I'm not going to the movie to see no drama don't wanna fall asleep in that bitch

I overall see your point..The framework or basic plot (on paper) of the movie could be seen in a really good tv movie or an hour long episode of the twilight zone or a hitchcock joint. But the way he captured the inside jokes that only black people can relate to, the bullshit white people say to us, the messages/hints/clues sprinkled throughout the movie...all of that shit made it really worthwhile. I can tell you three moments that really stood out for me, because I didn't even catch all the stuff like the cotton picking when I first saw it. Even though, I knew that white girl was in on it, it was still creepy as hell and funny when she finally cut the shit and said "you know I can't give you the keys"..and every brother that's been through it or even paid attention last year had to have the same response, when the cop car pulled up at the end..and how his homeboy was trying so hard, not to say I told you so at the end, but had to say it..all that shit was crazy and funny to me. Plus another thing, when something becomes so hyped up and a part of current pop culture conversation, sometimes it's human nature to say it's not all that when it's not the absolutely greatest thing you've ever seen.

It wasn't an all time great flick, but it was a very good movie. Writing, performances, direction..... shit kept me engaged until the end. ...the fact that it was written/directed by a comedian probably earns it some extra props because it was relatively unexpected... like when fuckin Zach Braff put out the movie "Garden State". People were like damn, that was a quality flick... from the Scrubs guy!
oh shit... off topic, but I didn't know until just reading the Sam Jackson thread that the guy that played Chris is British.... damn, those mufuckas do the American accent way too good.

I fixed that for you and that's why you can't really make that particular comparison. I know some niggas just aren't gonna get it and some people on this board are just cacs but Peele said some bold shit on a interview: he pretty much stated he wanted his name on this so black folks would go see it so when they see it they would know "Hey y'all it's me". You can go look back and see my post thinking this movie was some bullshit, and foreal I never watch key and peele like that. I mean I never saw them as coons or anything but I didn't expect anything like THIS.

And just listening to his interviews I see the brotha has his head on straight so I want to fully support him. This was a welcome change from all the action movies I see in the theatre

Don't feel too bad op I heard alot of you white people didn't like the movie.

Yea.....then again you just might be white

I'm going to see it two more times this weekend

Peace,

Came in here to say this. Self-conscious cacs hated the movie too.

Oh the op's white, well at least he liked it. Most white people didn't like it at all

Fuck yall Barbra Streisand box set having ass niggas! I didn't say the movie sucked I just expected more that's all also when it snows I spray paint that shit black I hate white folks so much
