Black women has it tough and rough.

Go natural:
niggaz and bitches talking shit about you,
calling your hair nappy.

Go the weave route:
niggaz and bitches talking shit about you,
calling your hair fake.

This is the truth. I went natural about 2-3 years ago, but I have never had thick hair, my hair has always been fine, after my bout with cancer, even finer and thinner, so I'm very limited to what I can do.

If I twist it, it doesn't last, it's long but not manageable to look like "the natural sister" so when I hear brothers knock us for a hairstyle I want to scream. It's like damn there's no pleasing them.

Like Coco Beauty said, not every sister can pull off the natural look, and to me its ok.. Every woman on earth even some in mother Africa enhances their looks according to their cultural preferences... I think the only thing that most guys dislike is when women overdo it or when women who look better natural chooses to augment their looks to appear less black a.k.a Lil Kim..

Do your thang!! Make yourself happy!!!

A lot of these pictures on this post is not the natural or afro. There is a difference between coming your hair and wearing it natural than the twisting making it impossible to comb.
The largest afro I have seen in real life was a brother in Las Vegas. He has never had his hair cut. His mother never cut it and he never cut it. I was shocked when he showed me that an afro comb could go all the way thru his hair. He said he only wash his hair once a month. And he never use any grease of oil. The oils in his hair come naturally from his scalp. That makes it easy to come. Actually by him having so much hair the oils lock in and makes his hair easy to manage.

Hey!
You are beautiful to me.
You are the epitome of strong, black beauty!

I saw/see that first hand.
My wife put me on to the struggles of "black hair".

I think many black folks mean well but are hypocrites in real life..
For example when we give examples of natural women we always promote the best looking chicks...
Women who could actually shave off all their hair and still look good.
Then we like to flip that shit and say that all black women look good natural.
But our actions speak differently..
Just like we are quick to publicly say we love dark skin women, but the dark skin women we point out all are the best of the best..
In reality most of us feel like we cannot get that dime light skin chick or that dime Latin, Asian or White girl, so we home in on the ones we feel are more accessible, the dark skin black chicks..
Don't get me wrong this is a beautiful thing but how about these guys who love to call them their Black Queens and beautiful Melinated women back up their words by marrying them, raising beautiful children and treating them like your Queen instead of label Queen with no real merit to it.
And why is it as soon as we get money and those same White, Light skin and Asian women fall on your radar, many of us immediately say fuck the dark skin natural woman... When was the last time you saw a celebrity or athlete with a dark skin natural woman..
My question is yall think our women don't notice that shit??
To me calling them Queens with out action or backing up your words comes off as very condescending especially when you have kids by dark skin women that you dumped and are no longer taking care of.
So fellas I am not saying stop calling black women Queens, I am saying back these words up by making her your real Queen in real life not with empty words.

I only date black women with natural hair. To me black women are so beautiful with their hair in the natural state. It's healthier and it's a lot of things they can do with it. I hate weaves and I hate perms on black women. That's just me, though. To be honest, I would rather my woman wear a wig than put that shit in their hair.

Hope you're doing better Ms.Coco. I hope to continue seeing black women like you on this board for the next 30-40 years. That will be sumthin...

Coco, never knew you had a bout with cancer! Praying that you are doing better now :-)

Have you tried setting it on rods, flexi ones or otherwise, and the picking it out afterwards?

I'm sure it's beautiful as it is, girl. Don't let a man - or society - tell you what you can/can't do with your hair.

Thanks! I just asked my daughter about the flexi rods last week and we're going to try it. It's so humid here that she doesn't think it will hold because my hair is so fine.

And thanks again, I'll let you know how if the rods works for me.

Wife is natural for over 2 years now and she is more beautiful. My daughter has always been natural.

My Lord, please do! Please! I've never seen a natural woman that wasn't rockin it strong. I love natural. I won't go near a weave or wig until she got a condition that warrants it.

I liked that page a while ago, I don't recall seeing posts from it in my timeline though.

I bet she is seeing the difference in the bank statements as well:cool:

Not at first, and if shes like me who didn't rely on going to a salon every week, possibly not at all. She may become a product junkie buying a bunch of stuff to try to see what she likes (or buying ingredients to mix her own.) Often at 10-15+ per product. Products that work well in the summer, don't always work well in the winter or fall. I don't buy much anymore but when I decided to try a bunch of new products last month, my one shopping trip was about 120.00. When I first went natural I could do twice that every month. Ironically, the one that has become my new fav was 7 bucks...lol...

Outside of one maybe 2 year time period, (25-30 bucks a week) I never did the salon on a regular basis. At that time I had found guy that was gentle with my hair and who would use my own products, and was amazing with my eyebrows. It was a way to relax and let some one else do it and get a scalp massage, rather than a need to have it done though. Outside of that, when I was relaxed, I mostly did it on my own because stylists would over process it. When I paid for relaxers it was about 70.00 every 4-5 months or so. I was always better at styling my own hair outside of having to rely on someone for a cut.

Now I get my hair cut once, maybe twice a year. That's the only outside expense I have other than trying maintenance products, and to be honest, if times ever got hard all I need is a jar of coconut oil and I'm good. Last week I got it cut, 16 bucks + a 6 dollar tip. I normally flat iron it and go to a Great Clips or something and have them cut it dry. There are salons now that specialize in curly and natural hair tho and cutting it in it's natural state that charge a grip for haircuts now. I have about 3 different textures though, so I straighten it to get an even cut.
