Arnold Schwarzenegger won't be returning to 'The New Celebrity Apprentice'

Arnold Schwarzenegger has terminated his ties with "The New Celebrity Apprentice."

The former California governor told CNN in a statement that he will not be returning to host the reality program, which was once hosted by President Donald Trump.

"I loved every second of working with NBC and Mark Burnett. Everyone -- from the celebrities to the crew to the marketing department -- was a straight 10, and I would absolutely work with all of them again on a show that doesn't have this baggage," Schwarzenegger said in the statement.

NBC has not commented on Schwarzenegger's decision. It has also not officially said whether it intends to pick up the show for another cycle.

Schwarzenegger's decision comes after his debut season of the rebranded "Celebrity Apprentice" drew modest numbers for NBC. The series premiered back in January with 4.9 million viewers.

Trump mocked the low ratings at last month's National Prayer Breakfast, asking the crowd to "pray for Arnold."

Schwarzenegger responded to the jab in a video.

"Hey Donald, I have a great idea. Why don't we switch jobs?" he said. "You take over TV because you're such an expert on ratings and I take over your job and then people can finally sleep comfortably again."

Schwarzenegger's departure makes an already unlikely "Celebrity Apprentice" renewal even less likely.

Schwarzenegger took over hosting duties for the "Celebrity Apprentice" franchise following the departure of Trump, who hosted from 2008-14.

Trump stayed on as an executive producer for the show.

Schwarzenegger was hired back in September 2015.

"The New Celebrity Apprentice" wrapped up its season last month. "American Ninja Warrior" host Matt Iseman was crowned the winner.

President Trump on Saturday attacked Arnold Schwarzenegger -- a former California governor and a fellow Republican whose turn on Trump’s beloved “The Apprentice” has been followed by abysmal TV ratings.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't voluntarily leaving the Apprentice, he was fired by his bad (pathetic) ratings, not by me. Sad end to great show,” Trump tweeted.

Schwaarzenegger tweeted in response: "You should think about hiring a new joke writer and a fact checker."

The exchange follows Schwarzenegger announcing Friday that he would leave the NBC reality TV show.

Schwarzenegger replaced Trump this season as the host of the long-running show, now titled “The New Celebrity Apprentice,” as a result of Trump running for and ultimately winning the White House.

This season purportedly had the second-lowest rating in show’s 15-season run.

Schwarzenegger, a former body-builder and action-movie star, did not support Trump’s candidacy.

And he suggested in his resignation announcement that the show’s low ratings were the result of Trump “baggage.”

Trump, who is still the show's executive producer, also criticized Schwarzenegger during his address last month at the National Prayer Breakfast, suggesting Americans pray for Schwarzenegger because of the show’s low ratings.

Arnold Schwarzenegger blames 'the Apprentice's' poor ratings on Trump

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hollywood superstar and former governor of California, found himself embroiled in another twitter feud with U.S. President Donald Trump after the latter trolled him on Twitter on Saturday.

In his tweet, Trump alleged that Schwarzenegger was fired as the host of "The New Celebrity Apprentice" due to his poor ratings — contradicting what the latter said Friday in an interview with the Empire magazine.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t voluntarily leaving the Apprentice, he was fired by his bad (pathetic) ratings, not by me. Sad end to great show.” Trump tweeted on Saturday.

Schwarzenegger replied back to his tweet and said: "You should think about hiring a new joke writer and a fact checker."

After hosting just one season, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced his departure from the NBC show on Friday and said that Trump mocking him regarding the ratings of the reality TV show was just one example of the "baggage" surrounding the show.

"Even if asked [to do it again] I would decline,” Schwarzenegger told Empire magazine. "I learned a lot, I had a great time, it was a really great opportunity. But under the circumstances, I don’t want to do it again. With Trump being involved in the show, people have a bad taste and don’t want to participate as a spectator or sponsor or in any other way support the show. It’s a very divisive period right now and I think the show got caught up in all that division."

Trump, who hosted the "Apprentice" franchise from 2003 to 2015, had earlier taken a dig at Schwarzenegger during his address at the National Prayer Breakfast, when he asked the audience to "pray for Arnold’s ratings,” sparking the first feud between the two since Trump took office. Schwarzenegger shot back in a video and said: "You take over TV, cause you're such an expert in ratings, and I take over your job and then people can finally sleep comfortably again."

According to data analyzed by the Nielsen company, the show’s 15th season, which Schwarzenegger was a part of, did very poorly among younger audiences. The show averaged fewer than five million viewers per episode, far below any other edition or season of the show, except for a 2010 Trump-hosted edition without celebrities, according to the Guardian. However, compared to the ratings of the first season between 2003 and 2004, viewership of the show has been steadily declining almost every year season and Schwarzenegger implied that the current ratings were to do with the ongoing political climate and opposition to Trump.

“It’s not about the show,” Schwarzenegger said. “Because everyone I ran into came up to me and said ‘I love the show…but I turned it off as I read Trump’s name I’m outta there.’ When people found out that Trump was still involved as executive producer and was still receiving money from the show, then half the people [started] boycotting it.”

President Donald Trump just can’t quit the ignominious demise of his former reality TV show “Celebrity Apprentice,” taking to Twitter early Saturday to claim that this past season’s host, Arnold Schwarzenegger, “was fired by his bad (pathetic) ratings, not by me.”

Schwarzenegger, who led the 15th season that just wrapped for NBC to disappointing ratings, quickly tweeted a reply: “You should think about hiring a new joke writer and a fact checker.”

On Friday, the big-screen action star and former California governor announced that he “would decline” to return for another season “even if asked,” and blamed the show’s poor showing on Trump — who starred in 14 seasons of the show and retained an executive producer credit even after winning the presidential election.

“With Trump being involved in the show people have a bad taste and don’t want to participate as a spectator or as a sponsor or in any other way support the show,” Schwarzenegger said. “It’s a very divisive period now and I think this show got caught up in all that division.”

NBC has not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.

The post-Trump era of NBC’s job interview competition got off to a disappointing start, with the January premiere scoring a modest 1.3 rating/4 share in the key 18-49 demographic and 4.9 million viewers overall.

The show continued to slip in viewership, and last month’s season finale barely avoided setting new all-time series lows.

NBC has not made a decision on renewing the show but, as TheWrap reported on Thursday, six of its 12 sponsors from Season 15 announced they would not return in response to a lobbying effort called #GrabYourWallet that objected to Trump’s involvement.

None of the companies — including Tyra Beauty, Lorissa’s Kitchen, the Los Angeles Clippers, QVC and Carnival Corporation — explicitly cited Trump as their reason. But campaign organizer Shannon Coulter said, “I think it’s pretty clear at this point that the Trump brand name is toxic.”

‘Celebrity Apprentice’ Loses Half Its Sponsors Amid Anti-Trump Boycott (Exclusive)

NBC’s reboot ofCelebrity Apprentice, with new host Arnold Schwarzenegger, wasn’t exactly a ratings killer. But as the network decides whether to renew the show, it faces another problem: Half its sponsors from last season have bailed out after boycott threats.

A campaign called #GrabYourWallet, which called on sponsors to abandon the show because of President Donald Trump’s involvement with it, said six of the show’s 12 corporate backers from last season have agreed not to return. None of the companies explicitly cited Trump as their reason, but campaign organizer Shannon Coulter says the gold-plated writing is on the wall.

“I think it’s pretty clear at this point that the Trump brand name is toxic,” she told TheWrap.

TheWrap confirmed with five of the six sponsors Coulter identified that they were indeed parting ways with the show. The sixth, Jessica Alba’s The Honest Company, did not respond to repeated requests for comment. But the #GrabYourWallet campaign provided an email from The Honest Company saying it was only in one episode in the latest season and won’t be in the next one, if it happens.

Although Trump no longer hosts “Celebrity Apprentice,” he continues to hold the title of executive producer. His spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, confirmed last year that Trump has also maintained a financial interest in the franchise.

#GrabYourWallet called on consumers to boycott sponsors of the show if they didn’t abandon it. So far, Tyra Beauty, Lorissa’s Kitchen, the Los Angeles Clippers, QVC and Carnival Corporation have announced that they will sit out the show’s next season.

NBC famously severed its ties with Trump soon after the reality-show host launched his incendiary presidential campaign. But in December, Variety reported that Trump would retain credit as executive producer of the revived reality series, almost two weeks after the sponsorships for the show were announced.

Several companies have said they were blindsided by Trump’s involvement in the reboot, according to Coulter.

A rep for Lorrisa’s Kitchen told TheWrap of the sense of being blindsided, “Yes, that was our experience as well.”

The status of another sponsor, Motor giant Kawasaki USA, is in question. A rep for the company told Reuters last month: “Once we understood the concerns of American citizens, we have taken the approach of agreeing not to participate in the show in the future as long as Mr. Trump is involved as an executive producer.”

But the company later said the rep’s comments were “a misrepresentation of the company’s position.”

Kawasaki said the employee was no longer working there, but the company has not publicly reversed its decision to exit the show. Repeated called and emails to the company went unanswered.

NBC declined to comment. Reps for MGM — which produced the show and handed the sponsorship deals — did not respond to TheWrap’s request for an interview.

Coulter says all she requires to get off the boycott list is a public commitment to sit out the show’s next season. She doesn’t ask that companies denounce Trump on their way out the door.

Sponsors who have agreed to pull out were careful not to draw a direct connection between their decision not to sponsor the show and the boycott, only promising not to renew their deal next year.

The companies’ statements reflect that. A rep for Lorissa’s Kitchen told TheWrap: “Lorissa’s Kitchen’s participation in a single episode of ‘The New Celebrity Apprentice’ in no way reflects a political stance or endorsement. When we decided to participate in the show, the two major factors that drew us to participate were a broad platform to talk about our new product that we are so proud of and the show’s philanthropic efforts. If additional seasons of ‘The New Celebrity Apprentice’ are announced, Lorissa’s Kitchen will not participate.”

At least one company, Carnival Corporation, described its experience with the show as “extremely positive.”

“We have no current plans to be a sponsor of the program next year since we have begun to produce our own TV programs about cruising and tourism for the networks,” the company told TheWrap in a statement. A company rep told us over the phone that Carnival would be open to sponsoring other future seasons.

Coulter, a 45-year-old digital marketing specialist from San Francisco, started the #GrabYourWallet campaign five months ago. Rather than targeting Trump, her boycott zeros in on his business partners. Using social media, Coulter encourages buyers to stay away from companies that carry Trump merchandise or sponsor Trump-related products and events.

According to analytics Coulter shared with Mashable, the #GrabYourWallet hashtag has been tweeted more than 213,000 times and garnered more than 600 million impressions. Many of her followers also contacted the stores on Coulter’s boycott list, including Macy’s and Amazon.

The boycott claimed what it said was its biggest success when retail giant Nordstrom dropped Ivanka Trump’s clothing line earlier this month — though Nordstrom denied the decision had anything to do with #GrabYourWallet. A February Wall Street Journal report showed sales of Ivanka’s fashion line had plummeted by nearly a third in the last fiscal year.

The campaign has already gotten support from some big-name activists and stars, including Gloria Steinem, Lucy Lawless and Chelsea Handler, who posted a picture of herself in front of the White House holding Nordstrom bags soon after the company dropped Ivanka’s line.

On top of that, the “New Celebrity Apprentice” proved to be a ratings dud. The first episode on Jan. 2 clocked an anemic 1.3 rating and just under 5 million viewers. The season finale on Feb. 13 drew a 0.9 rating and 3.5 million viewers.

“At the end of the day brands try to avoid unnecessary controversy,” founder and president of the Los Angeles-based Brand Identity Center, Chad Kawalec, told TheWrap. “The Trump brand is highly controversial to at least half the country. That, coupled with rather poor ratings, gives sponsors permission to pull out.”

The backlash forced some companies on #GrabYourWallet’s boycott list to play down their relationship with the show. Tyra Banks’s Tyra Beauty was on the list because Banks appeared as an advisor on show and promoted her makeup and skincare brand.

“We want to make it clear that Tyra Beauty is not an active sponsor of ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ series and does not plan to become one in the future,” a Tyra Beauty spokesperson later clarified in a statement. “Filmed a year ago, our involvement was limited to showcasing Tyra Beauty’s innovative cosmetics products.”

Five companies have yet to drop the NBC reality show: King’s Hawaiian, Trident, Welch’s, See’s Candies and Universal Studios Hollywood. None responded to TheWrap’s request for comment, except for See’s, which declined to comment.

Still, Coulter says, her boycott is working.

“I would be very surprised if another season of ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ was announced,” she said.

Ol' Willie Loman ass. Dude just can't help himself.
i just don't understand... he's the potus. How on earth can he have the time to run the country and worry about bullshit reality shows?

This nigga has a serious little mans complex. He's pretty tall so the only other explanation is that he lacks in more important areas. That's probably why he's obsessed with big things, big buildings, power, etc.

Never watch the apprentice.
The few clips I saw didn't even peak my interest. Seems like it is on the air for a lifetime, I wonder what people really like about it!
