NFL Network analyst: Better than 50 percent chance Kirk Cousins leaves Washington this year

Ex-Bachelorette winner Jordan Rodgers would give his rose to Kirk Cousins over Cam Newton]

He is straight gangsta

Longtime NFL reporter Jim Trotter said on ESPN’s “NFL Insiders” program that Cousins might be among the most mercenary NFL players he’s encountered.

“The one thing I love about Kirk Cousins is that he is straight gangsta,” Trotter said. “Not -er. Straight gangsta. Ends with an ‘A.’ Owners are used to always having the leverage against players, and players will often capitulate for money. Kirk understands what his value is, and he is not going to short-sell himself. He looks at it now as look, I got $20 million last year, I’ll get 24 this year, that’s $44 million over two years. And then I go out on the free agent market next year, where if he has another season [similar] to what he had last year and this year, he can look to get guarantees at a minimum of $40 to $50 million. Which means he will have made close to $90 million to $100 million over three years. I think he’s okay with that. …

“The beauty here for me is you have a player who understands his market value, understands leverage and is willing to bet on himself and is not going to take less than what he can get,” Trotter went on. “He is maximizing his earnings. And at times, I’ve been criticized before [when] I would say that a contract I felt wasn’t good, in part because I felt a player had leverage and didn’t maximize it. Kirk is doing it. Short of Darrelle Revis, he may be the most mercenary player in the NFL that I’ve ever been around in my two decades.”

‘Give him a long-term deal and just end the problem.’

NFL Network analyst Willie McGinest implied that Cousins is better for the Redskins than any quarterback they could find in the draft.

“I think he has grown in this system,” McGinest said. “I think he’s one of these players that gets better and better as he’s involved in a system, like Jay Gruden’s. It’s very difficult and complicated. I think he understands that now. He plays great within that system. Yes, [you’d like] more consistency, throughout the year, for an entire 16 games. And you want to see him put the team on his back at times and make certain throws and take over football games. Of course.

“Look around the NFL; it’s not flooded with great quarterbacks,” McGinest said. “Look at the draft. You can’t find a guy right now that you’d say you would probably take over Kirk Cousins in the draft. This is a guy that’s at home, he plays great within the system, he is continuously getting better. Give him a long-term deal. Don’t play around with it. Because you’re not going to keep paying him [under the tag]. Give him a long-term deal and just end the problem.”

Romo has a higher ceiling

Analyst Cris Carter said on FS1 this week that if he were the Redskins, he would take Tony Romo over Cousins, at least in the short term.

“If you ask me over the next three years … I’m gonna go with Romo,” he said. “I really am. I’m gonna go with Romo, because I know what Romo can do, and I believe his ceiling is still higher. … I’m worried about the upside. Is it a system for Kirk Cousins? Tony Romo, I know he’s still a Pro Bowl quarterback.”

Kirk ain't gangsta he's smart, and lucky enough to sway fan support and catch the redskins between a rock and a hard place.

Kirk is avg and to the naked eye looks the part and doesn't make too many stupid mistakes, but some have said it was Washingtons offensive scheme that he benefits from, so he may want to hedge his bets, all money ain't good money, all schemes ain't gonna fit his skill set.

Also what's his saving grace, he's not rg3, he's gotten them to/near the playoffs, and the redskins have nobody to replace him, and the draft does not have a viable candidate at their draft position, or even if one is there, will they be worth it, plus we see time and time again what happens anytime a franchise moves up, most pics flame out the league.

Kirk was an opportunist and I ain't mad at him, but gangsta no he is not

Well, betting on yourself and winning the bet is kind of gangsta. There are three schemes that fit him well at this point in time. San Fran, Chargers, and Redskins. He played for all three coaches and played well in all three. This whole mess was setup for failure. From drafting him in the 4th round after they selected RG3 in the first in 2012. Redskins giving RG3 the 5th year option and then naming Kirk the starter. Not paying Kirk last year.

He just ain't scared to gamble on himself

Revis cashed out in similar fashion

Don't get pushed into taking a deal you don't like

If they tag you one year for 20 mill and another for 24 what's the issue? You just made 44 million!

Then you can sign a huge deal in free agency the following year.

He is just an above average QB but he is using his leverage correctly by not folding. The way the NFL is set up will never change until more players in position to do put pressure on teams do just that.

“The beauty here for me is you have a player who understands his market value, understands leverage and is willing to bet on himself and is not going to take less than what he can get,” Trotter went on. “He is maximizing his earnings. Except Darrelle never had such flattering write ups about him praising his business smarts and "gangsta" mentality.. He also has more talent in one leg than Kirk has in his entire body two times over. Them even mentioning this cac with Revis is fucking insulting. There is nothing smart or savvy about what Kirk is doing.. Its all dictated by timing and the QB market. What Revis did required brains, bravery, and elite level talent.. All Kirk needs is a QB designation and white skin.
Y'all bout to pay this CAC 25 mill a year
Gonna be interesting to watch play out. The GM dont want him.. but the old defacto GM thats now a team exec does. I hope they can fleece the niners for his bum ass personally.

RG3 somewhere in the gutter saying "I did all that tap dancing for nothing. While he falls into the perfect situation. ".

Yea no. Keep that bum ass in D.C. forever.

And mentioning him with revis is exactly the wrong move for ol boy to make like you said
Revis did it from a position that people feel they can find adequate talent in a trash compactor and pay peanuts for.
He gamed the system like every other non qb wish they could have.
He made QB money and has a super bowl ring.

Nah.. he belong with baby Shanny. The guy who shit the bed in the super bowl.

No he don't
Stop wishing ill will towards my team he's your problem.
We more than likely going to do something that every white fan didn't think was possible especially the "unbiased" white writers of the 49ers.

Kudos to the Redskins GM for knowing he ain't shit . Matt Flynn/Matt Cassel 2.0

They trying hard to fight it man they know he ain't worth the money but scared to let him go

If the Bills cut Tyrod Taylor might be good to take a look at him

I ain't paying Cousins like an elite QB and he not fuck that

This is BS. When bruthas hold out for money, they call them selfish. In this case, this mediocre white QB is getting props for putting his interests first. And then have the nerve to put him in the same category as Revis who has been one of the best at his position for years. Ridiculous. I hope he goes to the 9ers so they can both fail.

Exactly

CACs never praise black players when they try and get paid what they are worth

Now what Cousins is doing is so "gangsta" FOH

I think all players should get whatever they can fuck the greedy NFL setup fuck the hard cap all that make them break bread

Exactly. Its a business. Employees try and get compensated as much as possible and employers try and pay as little as possible. The same people disparaging players for trying to get more money, still support their unions trying to get them more money.

Its a brother that's praising him.

he lied and said he was doing it for other qb's
he just knows he's a qb and people paid brock 70 million sight unseen so he'll get paid.

In this article yeah

I listen to the radio every day and browse the Internet he has gotten praise from CACs and they are calling what he is doing smart, which it is

The tune is usually different when a nigga does it

Should've seen how mufuckas turned on Dez out here for wanting his paper just overlooking how Romo been stealing money all these years

He lying about that being his main purpose but he is right

When players take team friendly deals and below market value deals it's frowned upon amongst players and agents cuz that can fuck the market up. You supposed to get the most you can for yourself and so the next free agents can use your deal to negotiate.

I'm not gonna let this dude carry that cross though.

I love how nobody ever brings up Drew Brees dude was all about his paper

RG3 got one foot out the NFL and this CAC bout to make a hundred million dollars
RG3 somewhere in the gutter saying "I did all that tap dancing for nothing. While he falls into the perfect situation. ".
This is by RG3 doing. If you go back and watch the All 22 for any game he played in 2013 and 2014. You will be disappointed. He was awful and he wasn't getting any better. He was also arrogant which hurt his development. I was RG3 biggest fan when he beat my Sooners in 2011. I wasn't mad the Sooners lost as long the Redskins drafted him. Then January 2013 happened when he got the surgery and he started beefing with the Shanahans. I started opening my eyes. That 2013 season was disastrous for RG3. He didn't play or practice in the offseason and he was "All in for Week 1".

Kirk gambled and won. As long as McVay, Shanahan, or Gruden is his offensive coordinator/coach I can say he will continue to develop and get better. The proverbial, 'light switch' has gone off in his head and he gets it now. RG3 -- not so much.

he dont get shit lol

In a league full of trash Qb's......if you decent you gonna get paid. And Kirk has being in his late 20's and having a good arm going for him.

He has all the leverage. Deadskins not stupid enough to even let a decent QB go.

I'd rather pay 25 million a year for a decent QB then pay waste that 25 million on other positions that ain't worth a damn.
