The fact that you see how another teacher can get caught up like this is very disturbing. I don't care how long you're in your class planning lessons or how strong the bonds w/ your students are. The bottom line is they're underage students.

I'm obviously human aswell, and you can't compare the actions of two consenting adults to the actions of a 'consenting' child. Also, there is no 'never minding' the age issue. We're fully grown men here. The both of us have gone through at least 4 years of college, and probably grad school as well. The Houston middle school teacher who admitted to having near-daily sex with a 13-year-old student was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison.

Alexandria Vera told investigators that she was impregnated by the boy she met as an eighth grader in her summer school English class in 2015.

The 24-year-old faced 30 years in prison after prosecutors accused her of continuous sexual abuse, but she received less time after pleading guilty to a lesser charge, according to KPRC.

State District Judge Michael McSpadden said the decade behind bars was needed to send a message.

"We want out educators to teach our students," he said in court, according to MySanAntonio.com. "We want them to keep their hands off the students."

A therapist spoke on Vera's behalf Friday, saying, "I think she was driven by being in love with him."

Investigators said that the illicit relationship began after the boy contacted Vera on Instagram, and they began having sex over the course of nine months.

One fellow student told KTRK that the pair’s flirtation spilled over into the classroom, where the boy once was seen grabbing his teacher’s behind.
