Donell Jones Don't Get The Props He Deserves

He was ok,he has like three solid radio joints and didn't he have c.richardson and babyface writting for him?.
He was always in the shadow of R.kelly even though they aren't alike and at a time when R.kelly was at his peak.

He does free pop up shows at the Georgian Terrace from time to time.

Side note, Prince used to also do this at the Ritz Carlton in Atl...he had an open invitation any time he wanted...he surprised guests during a snowstorm many years back.

Donell is a GREAT songwriter, it's one of the things that motivated me to make this thread, hella underrated as an artist imo.

1) Donell Jones
2A) Dave Hollister
2B) Anthony Hamilton

Do you wanna - :ipod:

Now that I think about it there weren't many of his songs that I had to skip over.

Don't get me started on Dave Hollister fam

I fuck with that brotha tracks, talking bout some real shit , music doesnt much these days, and helped me think my way through some situations with my lady as a youngin and now

i forgot which one of the females on BGOL went off on Donnell Jones for Where I Wanna Be and Where You Are. saying black men aint shit

Damn I just realized I pretty much charged that whole era of R&B/ Soul. Outside of some singles, never really got into those newer cats. None of'em. I know about them all pretty much, but that's it.

Thinking back, that's scary.:dunno: I'mma check out DJ's album, since I like diggin. I know he had some talents.

Sidenote: Tony Terry's album was garbage surprisingly.:eek2: All those years of just When I'm With You. Went back and listened to the whole project. He was in New Jack hell IMO. Didn't fit his vocals.:smh:

Man I used to play Where I Wanna Be - the whole album - on repeat when it came out. Will definitely be updating the music library when I get my Pussy Tavern.

And yeah, sadly the alcohol. TVOne did an Unsung on him not too long ago. I think he beat the addiction...I hope so.

The same issue that Jesse Powell had...vocals for days, a killer slow jam & an album that was contrived New Jack Swing. By the time either one of them got right, the industry had passed them. Sad...

Interesting. I remember that artist. I'm going to check it out too out of curiosity. That New Jack sound was aggressive and influential. You had to be careful with it. Have the right dosage, producers and scheme or your project could get tarnished. Thanks for the info.

It really makes you respect people like Michael Jackson, R Kelly, Marvin Gaye and a few others who had 10 plus years of longevity in various Styles and popularities of music.

Shit, Michael Jackson had the boy band, the Adolescent stage, the underrated Jacksons through the disco era, transitioned into the pop rock era of the 80's and maintained popularity through the 90's. Marvin Gaye went from the doo wop stage of a late 50s early 60s, to find his way with duets and such in the 60s, finding his own style in the 70s and carrying it through his death

Those folks who are able to transcend different types and styles of music - those are the legends. I can sing, I even audition for America's Got Talent a couple weeks ago, but in today's day and age the only way I would make it would be through country music, which I excel at
