The Last of Us: Part 2 Director Addresses Sequel Worries, Says "Trust Us"
Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann has asked fans to put their faith in the studio as it returns to the story of Joel and Ellie for The Last of Us: Part 2.
Speaking during a panel held at PlayStation Experience, Druckmann started by confirming that the sequel takes place a few years after the events of the first game, when Ellie is aged 19. He went on to acknowledge worries among fans that creating a sequel diminishes the poignancy of the first game's ending and the journey its main characters went through.
"So much thought went into this and I know there's a lot of people that feel this trepidation about coming back to these characters and revisiting what that ending means and worrying whether that's going to spoil the first game," he said.
"You have to understand we feel all those things as well. No one loves these characters more than we do and we would not do this if we didn't feel like we had the right idea. The 'Part II' is really doubling down on that to say we believe in this so much. We're not trying to avoid it."
According to Druckmann, Naughty Dog is treading the two games as companions that, together, depict an overarching narrative.
"I played with so many ideas that had different characters and it never felt right," he explained. "The Last of Us is about these two characters specifically. So yes, the Part II is saying this is a complementary story to the first game, but the two together are going to tell this larger tale.
"All I ask is that fans of the first one put faith in us and trust us. We're going to do right by you."
Earlier in the panel, Druckmann also revealed that players will primarily control Ellie in The Last of Us: Part 2. In the first game Joel was the main playable character, and this reversal extends into the underpinning theme of hate, as Ellie can be seen in the debut trailer threatening to kill a group of as of yet unknown characters.

Yeah she looks olderIt look like the sequel is 4 or 5 years later, because Ellie look different...
the best thing about the new mvc4 is going back to 2vs2. that made me fire up the old vs games last night.

Man I'm sorry.. I've got both systems and I'm highly disappointed in the PS4. Right now my PS4 just sits there. Don't get me wrong it's got nice features and PlayStation plus is still the best value, but I'm not going to throw blind hype into a system that has been inconsistent in this life cycle.
It drops all these trailers, yet it didn't really drop any new shit all year. Street fighter, the game I got the system for, was a bust... the lack of external hard drive support is insane, the interface is cumbersome, and next year.... Xbox is dropping a beast of a system. Which means all the idiots buying the new 4K PlayStation will be buying ps5 in 2018.
But I'll concede and say that graphically.... Xbox one can't hold a candle to the PS4, but I need more then great graphics...
Right now I'm looking at these trailers like.... meh...
I'm going to need some release dates before I'll show emotion.
xbox one can do the graphics ps4 is doing. the problem is no developer is really trying to make games look like that just for microsoft. and that is the reason people will always feel ps4 does it better (technically ps4 has the stronger specs). if xbox fought for better exclusives they'd easily win this gen. sony's biggest problem is showing games that got at least 2 years before release to show gamers whats worth having the system for. if microsoft could stop focusing too much on shooters and push for innovation on their system things could be very different for them. with all this being said i cant see myself only having 1 system each gen. the competition will always have that 1 game thats not coming to the other system and i cant deny myself the pleasure of playing it.
the greatest thing tho is the interface esp. w/ the activity feed...the PS4 has a section where you can view your friends' game clips but the shit looks clumsy...XB1's activity feed is conducive toward creating an online gaming community...it's almost like a mini-version of twitch...I have bought so much games on the strength of ppl posting clips of games they've playedwhat fucked MS up is finally giving us the shit ppl wanted well after the system dropped...the XB1 as it is now? S-I-C-K ...shit just imagine if they jumped out the gate w/ backwards compatibilitythe greatest thing tho is the interface esp. w/ the activity feed...the PS4 has a section where you can view your friends' game clips but the shit looks clumsy...XB1's activity feed is conducive toward creating an online gaming community...it's almost like a mini-version of twitch...I have bought so much games on the strength of ppl posting clips of games they've played
A little too scary man. I'll admit I sound like a fucking pussy, but goddamn does that shit look creepy. If I get it, I'm grabbing it for ps4 and doing it in VR. First I have to get a ps4. There exclusives are insane; Last Guardian, Days Gone, Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn...
Days Gone is a PS4 exclusive?!![]()
Thor, wesker, dantewho was your favorite team?
the zombie joint? ya...it was shown as a PS4 exclusive when they first showed the trailer @ E3 I think it was
It's a whole new game...
