Detroit TV anchor resigns after telling colleague she’s tired of covering ‘n***s killing each other'

Lauren Podell, a local NBC news reporter in Detroit, Michigan resigned on Wednesday after word got out about her use of the n-word, BLAC Detroit reports.

Podell, 31, reportedly used the word in conversation with a co-worker and the news got out around the office this week. She said to a crew member or TV producer, “I’m tired of reporting on these n*****s killing each other in Detroit.”

News of Podell’s resignation was confirmed in a company-wide email that was also released on Twitter by Huffington Post front page editor, Philip Lewis.

The email came from the news station’s Vice President and General Manager, Marla Drutz. It read as follows:

I wanted to let you know that Lauren Podell has resigned from WDIV effective immediately. Lauren asked me to convey the following: “During my time at WDIV I have created many friendships that I will continue to cherish”. If you receive any media inquiries please forward them to Jamie or me. Thanks.

Word of Podell’s statement got around after Sam Riddle, a former chief of staff for former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers quoted the reporter’s words in a Facebook post.

Riddle expressed his discontent over the matter, and said demonstrations were underway for Thursday morning to protest racism as a “systemic issue” and the news outlet’s “racist cover up.”

Podell also came under fire after dropping an f-bomb on live TV in 2013. She said, “I don’t have [interruptible feedback], I don’t know when we’re going, neither does Jim, I can’t get this f***ing in there!”

regardless if she is racist is irrelevant to me,since i think every white person is.

bigger picture for me is that she is tired of black men killing each other,and other black people are not???

is this what am seeing in this post.

I don't think she's tired of black men killing each other. . .

. . . but having to report on it all the time probably became a bit too 'low brow', maybe even depressing for her after a point.

While what she said was vile, I would imagine I'd also reach a breaking point with the shit, too. Reporting on murder all the time has to affect you on SOME level.

To anyone who may have been offended by my poor choice of words in explaining my frustration with the quality of life in Detroit.

Having to report daily on the senseless crime and the killings perpetrated in this fine upstanding community by others is reprehensible.

Please forgive me, it was not my intent to disparage anyone who is the victim of criminal activity or those who commit the crimes.

If you can't stand the heat get out the kitchen. I'm sure she wanted to be in Detroit and knew about the issues of the city going in; if she couldn't handle it she should have never decided to go to the big city. I'm sure Billings, Montana, Machester, NH, Bismarck, ND....they all have tv news as well; bitch go there and report the news.
 
From what what I view wdiv4 she was always doing fluff i.e white people feel good news, stuff that had nothing with black folks.

The obvious that no one wants to see is that "we" aren't the only ones who are criminals. It's just they choose to report on our ills to give the silent message that we're the barbaric ones. They choose what stories to run. They show on the news the burned out areas but don't who's burning them down and their reasoning behind it. They report on the drug situations but don't report on who is getting busted driving into the city to buy the shit. Prostitution ran rampant on Woodward and once a cable network started filming, they were quick to end the program because it was all suburbanite White and Arab men coming in and doing the dirt.
My coworker's son is a lil' Eminem wannbe. Backwards hat, saggin' clothes, "wigger" who is constantly being bailed out of jail for B&E, stolen car, selling weed, etc. but gets slapped on the wrist. Let it be a young man his very age of color and he'd get life. They don't report on that shit.
I met Laruen Podell last year at an event in which her father was being honored. She had that "nose in the air" vibe about her then. Now I know why. Guess she didn't wanna be there amongst us "N*#$@rs" in the first place".
