Black men are a highly visible under achieving group whom everyone looks down upon and feels the are better than including a certain type of black man.
They know no one will come to our defense. Most will assume the worst until proven otherwise.
Sad to say but black men are powerless in this regard. We are an unprotected calls and it doesn't matter what socioeconomic background we come from we are all targets.

Then it would have been spun that paying her off is an admission of guilt. Still would have killed his career. Don't get it wrong it still will get spun as he got off because of reasonable doubt, or victim blaming but at least he got a judgement to fall back on.

Derrick Rose was cleared in his civil rape trial.
Unlike other high-profile cases involving athletes, police were/are investigating Roseonce information of a potential crime came to light. Rose had his day in court, evidence presented and witnesses called on his behalf and against him.
And the jury ruled in his favor. No criminal charges have been filed, and given this trial and verdict, criminal charges seem unlikely.
We’ll never know exactly what happened between Rose, Ryan Allen and Randall Hampton and Jane Doe. But I believed the verdict, barring new information, meant we should allow Rose to move on with his life without forever ever being associated with rape. That was far better than the alternative – a society that perpetually condemns someone for being accused even after a fair trial brings a favorable verdict.

Jared said he doesn’t watch sports, while John said he did but wasn’t a Rose fan. After speaking with reporters, both went back inside to get their pictures taken with Rose and his attorney Mark Baute.
At best: The jurors soberly assessed Rose’s liability and, only after determining none, felt comfortable posing for pictures with him. The judge cracked a joke only with a similar understanding.
At worst: It’s indicative of a legal system that treats famous differently and usually better.
Either way: It feels gross and makes it harder for Rose to achieve the closure he desires, even after enduring a trial that ended with a verdict in his favor.

If this is true, these would have been the only two male jurors.

The actual transcripts were posted IIRC.. Rose was shown to have said (more than once) "Because we men" when asked how he knew group sex was consensual if the accuser never gave actual consent.
True. But the damage is done tho... Brand equity, trial fees, and reputation damage will ad up to be more costly than a early settlement.

He already had to have a season showing he is still worthy so now he has more incentive.

Nah... dont work like that. We talking about legally binding settlement agreements here my man.. You'd be surprised how many of your favorite athletes and celebrities have had them executed in order to keep some unflattering shit from public consumption.
Cosby allegedly had binding settlements with some of his accusers. There's still is talk about making it part of a case. Nowadays when it comes to rape so many people 'listen and believe' anything is possible.
Only because Cosby publicly spoke against/about the matter/accuser after the fact. Look man, if Rose settles this shit as he should have out the gate, we NEVER hear about it. Period.
