He said "looking dumb as fuck"... :smh: if you ever worry about how you look in the gym you are NOT truly working out!

Took me many years to figure that out now when I go to the gym I pay attention to no one, and only concern myself with
the results and I feel good.

I beg to differ.
Here is my proof. LOL

Every now and then, I will see something truly stupid that completely distracts me

let this man have his opinion

Mfs avoid the bench press because it is the other lift that make a mfs tell the truth.. you can talk all day about you bench this or bench that...get yo ass in the gym and prove it..mfs cant so they come up with excuses

actually three

in this order.

1. dead lifts
2. barbell squats
3. bench press

and if you are picky

4. barbell overhead presses

Among other things, It's supposed to keep your scapula retracted (flat) so you don't end up with rotator cuff issues. Raising your legs like that is supposed to force you to arch your back

Right. I been working on my bench a lot more lately cuz that's where I been weak at and this what I keep hearing minus the leg raising part.

It's supposed to lock you in and keep your elbows from wiggling all over the place cuz that's how you fuck up your shoulders.

You gotta keep your traps pressed into the bench.

i've seen guys do that and this

and was like huh??

   Yeah that's how some cats end up looking looks like it hurt. He still in a bad position cuz his elbows aren't tucked at 45 degrees.

True..Deads are my favorite lifts

for years the big three were my main lifts...(barbell Squats 3 days a week) but the casual lifter or sedentary person only asks you "what do you bench?" in most cases they don't even mess with the other big two or overhead presses, snatches, cleans etc. They'll be playing around with machines or doing curls for their whole workouts

As for the question the OP asked. putting your legs up helps to aid you in maintaining proper form and not 0ver arch while pressing. You can really only do that during warm-ups, pre-exhaustion phase or lifting lighter for muscular endurance. My old coach taught me that in grade 9, and i still do it till this day whenever i'm lifting lighter to really focus on isolating the chest

The only people who think you would look stupid are pussies who have no fucking clue about training..or stupid meatheads who spend more time wrapping up their joints and back than stretching.

as an avid gym goer I think that is some homo shit when I see that. for real

you'll never catch SOI with his legs up like a hoe getting it missionary stlye

I've never seen anyone avoid the bench press

It's all a lot of people do. Some dudes are in there three days a week benching for an hour.

I'm like :dunno: at least you're in there

I don't judge what people do, because people going to the gym is more than a lot of people do.

This is the only shit I look at funny.

The shit that people do that can hurt themselves.

The don't do a bench. They just hold the barbell help. it is a totally different exercise.

^Agreed. I'd like to respectfully add pullups to this list. Imho it separates the men from the boys (especially if you have some lbs on ya)......

Yeah, it's amazing how many people can't do pullups. They sure as shit ain't doing weighted pullups.

I see guys using the assisted pullup machine all the time but they never move over to the pullup bars:lol:. I found that women love to see guys doing pullups, whenever i do them i'll always catch them looking, if u really wanna get them do some corncob pullups:yes:

women love to see guys working out period, I stay catching women with that quick glance thing they do, or looking at me in the mirrors.

I do weighted pull ups and dips, i feel like for certain moves people should be able to move more than their own body weight.

I avoid barbell bench, I find that shit is rough on the shoulders the way it locks you hand in the same position at the top and bottom of the movement. so I do dumb bell bench press, which i find is way harder anyway, jut adding in the balance factor makes them tough.
on upperbody lifts except for clean and press i stay away from the barbell on a whole, even for shrugs and upright rows i use the dumb bells, less joint stress
