Which is why crime is allowed and sometimes "provoked". Cant hustle state and fed dollars if you dont have a problem.
Believe it or not, that 500 number is a acceptable number among Chicago politicians and Chicagoan's in general. Back when we were getting 900-1000 per year and the crime was more widespread, the politicians had some explaining to do. But because the crime is so isolated, and its mainly only poor people of color who feel the brunt of the stress, you can comfortably demand more money for more incompetent Cops and bs Stop The Violence programs without being asked many questions.
Btw....isolated crime ties in with gentrification. Some of the most violent areas in Chicago are areas that are "up for grab". Theres a lot of valuable yet CHEAP land in Chicago. These are areas either close to the Lake, Express Way or the Loop. These are also areas that theyre trying grab before they start utilizing abandoned rail lines (Englewood specifically). A lot of these areas have a ton of Black home owners. People that have owned property since the Baby boomer years. One way to easily get these people to surrender their property is via allowing crime to get out of control. Even though a lot of the criminals are targeting other criminals, the Black elders are easily convinced that the criminals are targeting them. One reason why theyre so easily convinced is because of the disconnect between older and younger Black folks.
Hold on to the tax dollars that you got from Black tax payers....then clean up the shit after they leave. The plan worked on State Street and King Drive, with the "Housing Project experiment", and it'll work again. After this new experiment is over....in about 10-15 years....all these high crime areas will full of younger White folks whove always dreamed about living closer to the loop or Lake Michigan. All the poor folks who got raped for tax dollars will be dead, locked up or pushed off to the desolate suburbs.
